@@NomadxElliot - If you can ride for miles on end at top speed with tons of shit in your backpack and still easily communicate with your buddy, you're certainly not as "unfit as they come". Are you Lance Armstrong or something? What is your definition of "top speed"? My comment was a relative one. Next time you're at Walmart, take a look around....I'd bet half the people in your field of vision couldn't ride a bike 5 minutes at a mediocre pace without collapsing from a coronary. Even many cops I see look like they've spent a bit too much time at the donut shop and not enough time at the gym. I ride regularly and can go fairly fast for long periods of time...and even though I'm in decent shape, there are periods when I have to really focus on controlling my breathing and managing my pace. I was simply commending this cop for doing a pretty nice job and for being in adequate shape to run this guy down on a hot and humid Atlanta summer day while wearing a flak vest and 20 pounds of gear..but I guess there is always someone to come along and piss in the Cheerios.

I remember my grandmother telling me if the FBI (or the police, or secret service etc, gov agents) really wanted to catch a criminal, like a highly dangerous serial killer for example, you would have to lend them your car if they told you to. Of course, you'd be reimbursed for damages to your vehicle. Is this actually completely accurate? I'd love to know. edit: watched the video and understand this is either exaggerated or false (more likely the latter of the two). edit edit: the replies are putting me to shame. Read them!

Yes and no. Many states (and even cities) have laws on the books that require private citizens must assist law enforcement if requested, and the refusal to do so can be charged as a misdemeanor. Read up on Blackman v Cincinnati (1942) or State v Floyd, a case ruled on by the Connecticut Supreme Court in (I believe) the 90s. The concept of obligatory assistance to police is as old as the Norman Conquest, and was often called "hue and cry", which legally obliged citizens to assist in the pursuit of a fugitive and even required they, if wealthy enough, hold various items to do so, like a breastplate, a sword and their own horse.
