My dad was a police officer in the 70s and 80s and he saw black men with 2 white vans throwing bags of something from one van to another at night. He called for backup and they thought they got the biggest drug bust of the year. Turns it the bags were filled with popcorn. Next morning it was front page on the newspaper.

I like Christmas but my family is so strict about it, that it is unreal. I went with my boyfriend to the store to get a gift for my mom and I saw a cop come in and grab a book. He was about to get his wallet, when I said, "Here, I got it." I paid for his stuff and he gave a smile so bright and said: "Thank you, mam." I felt so good that I swear not even my family could bring me down emotion-wise. I was in such a good mood, that I had a smile on all day. I would like to give a shout out to our police officers and say, Thank you for everything you do. It means the world to many of us that you are here to help and protect us no matter what.

I got pulled over today on a 12 hour drive for going 95(ish)in a 65. The officer looked at my license, threw it back at me and said "have a nice day." I definitely deserved a ticket but I can say that incident slowed me down for the rest of my drive, that officer could've saved my life and others too. Just wanted to say that I appreciate you guys, even more so when you don't give me tickets

I was a Rookie Cop out here in a Los Angeles County. I was told to call the station (before cell phones). So I stopped at a pay phone and dialed 911 to call the desk. I was across the street from our city and called the neighboring city. I argued with the RTOs that they told me to call them. They dispatched radio cars to my location for a 911 misuse;. once I gave them my call sign they told me I was across the street from my jurisdiction,. of course their next call was to the dispatchers at my station,. i heard about that for years...

I am a new subscriber, I have only been watching your videos for the past week. I learned a lot and have even more respect for officers. I wanted to go into law enforcement, but when I was 15 I was diagnosed with Leukemia and from that my health is not adequate enough to handle such a rigorous profession. I mean, I live in the US and some of the cops here I've met are amazing and kind people, and then some are just such dickheads I've seen threaten to arrest people for simply just not appeasing their ego. All countries have those people though obviously, but being from Ireland, I find myself scared of some cops here because of the whole gun thing and how trigger happy they seem... I've seen videos on how to interact with cops in America without getting shot, it's kinda ridiculous.

officer401 lol I know that hahah I meant the roles... like in my town the sheriff's office does patrol but so does my police department. also I know my police department is paired with the ATF and my sheriff is paired with the U.S. Marshals... what does that mean?

Mainly it's a jurisdiction difference. A Sheriffs Deputy is responsible for a county. Local PD would be responsible for a city or town, however the Sheriffs Office could still assist the local PD if it was needed. I don't know what you said about being paired, I am sure it depends on the agency. I do know that local PD could be involved with a federal agency like the ATF or FBI during investigations of certain crimes that may have been committed inside of that specific jurisdiction so they could collaborate on information and share it. Basically in a nut shell, law enforcement is overall the same role but with different responsibilities. If that helped any.

the move over thing is why cops in aus almost always stop their cars in a manner which leaves it sticking out into the shoulder lane a bit, just enough to make people go past a bit more cautiously. Also if they stay in front of the vehicle, any vehicle that could hit them will hit their car, their car will hit the suspect car and they will most likely end up safe anyways.

Those times that you get to share with the older guys are great. At the end of a training weekend I talked with one of the older firefighters and he had some absolutely hilarious legends and stories. Then the discussion turned slightly darker. You see some harsh shit working in emergency. When he was just a rookie he answered to a call and eventually had to pull his good friend out of the car wreck. Not very surprisingly, he was dead. But he recalled the very worst call being that he carried a 5 year old girl out of a burned house. You could clearly hear the sorrow and frustration in his voice after all those years.
