"All the best girls were taken" possibly the best delivered line in Stallone's entire career. You can just hear his heart break when he says it. Great video.

I was alive in the 80s and 90s and it was a golden era. Copland had a lot of hype when it came out and people were disappointed. I think they were expecting more action or mob stuff considering the cast. I rewatched this recently and it’s absolutely brilliant. A real gem. Incredible acting, writing, vibe. It has aged like fine wine.

Absolute gem of a film. A modern day western, where every actor has an influence, on the film.

I never get tired of watching this film. I actually have some sympathy for Ray in his initial philosophy and that moral grayness is what makes it harder for people to recognize when a line has been crossed. I love Ray’s speech “your plan is the plan of a boy” it’s so true. Their way of life relied on a network of corruption, but it’s naive to pretend our way of life doesn’t also rely on corruption. When there are so many hills to die on, when do you decide it’s time to finally stick your neck out? For Freddy it was a personal mission to save his soul as he couldn’t look himself in the mirror anymore. He also had the advantage of not having a wife & kids to support.

THANK YOU. This is one of favorite slept-on films. The cast alone is mind boggling. There is a proto-Sopranos feel to some of the NJ scenery and of course actors who would later work on the show. The scene where Randone goes down at the hands of Method Man is one of the most chilling, helpless-feeling scenes ever imo. Such a good movie.

Copland is a brilliant film. It watched this at the cinema I thought this film kick ass for the best Stallone performance. When I learnt that this film didn't do well I felt Stallone was cheated to get a better film scripts. I always wonder if Copland did well at the box office, would we had more Rambo and Rocky sequels and The Expendables. Not dissing these film as Stallone is a smart actor who knows his audience. I feel he should of got the parts that De Niro, Keitel co still get.

Terrific review. Much neglected classic. Stallone leading awesome cast. The great late ray liotta as conflicted figs has many stand out scenes as do Keitel, Rappaport, Patrick (all effectively character actors in this) Jthe late ohn Spencer and Frank Vincent as hood and bent cop respectively. Cathy Moriarty from Raging Bull in a minor but crucial role and de Niro alongside Stallone hold the movie together. I disagree that this is Stallone's best acting gig barring Ricky, First Blood (1) & Nighthawks showed Stallone more than capable. Unfortunately his becoming superstar undermined this (Harrison ford had same problem , as did Mel Gibson of being straightjacketed into variation of similar roles) at heart Copland a western (High noon) of a decent man doing what has to be done. Only one part Dosent work for me and that is De niros final voice over which is too on the nose, and possibly a studio interference decision in not trusting the audience.
@JimTheMovieGeek2 жыл бұрын
Nighthawks and first blood I agree are awesome too I just mean for me the performance is that good it's better than those two

@@JimTheMovieGeek I think (:personal opinion);that Stallone's performance in FB just watch the body language and nighthawks not just the beard but his complete commitment to a vastly different (than Rocky);but all this very personal opinions, no-one answer will be the same.
