I had mirena before. Hell on earth. It worked. I didn’t get pregnant. Thank god. I can literally get pregnant by a sideways glance. I was interested in the copper because of the hormone free aspect. The mirena put 30lbs on me over a few months. And stayed for years. I’m incredibly active and could not drop weight. Appetite increase and energy decrease. Low libido. Terrible. Went from having sex 4-5 times a week to 4-5 times a month. Lower abdominal pain and intravaginal pain. During and after sex. Changed the vag chemistry. Couldn’t get wet, even if I was excited. Looks like the comments are pointing in the same direction as the mirena. I do wish men that did not want to have children would grow the fuck up and get vasectomies. Want their women to look good and not get knocked up. Psh! So stressful to shoulder the entire responsibility.

I used the copper IUD for almost 30 years. I strongly recommend it because it’s more natural and once in place you don’t have to worry about it for 5 or 10 years depending on the kind you get. It the beginning I used to get yeast infections. Once I reduced my sugar intake( I used to eat tons of candy)and stop using soaps with fragrance, the yeast infection went away. To place and to take out the IUD I felt a pinch and some cramp for some hours after the procedure. My menstrual cycle became a little stronger but it also became more regular. Overall for me, more pros than cons.

I’ve had the copper IUD for about 7 months now. Experience yeast infections and I’d never had any before. Also periods after about month 3 of having it are extremely heavy. Like he said there’s pros and cons to all forms of BC but in my opinion if you aren’t active enough to need the contraception it isn’t worth it.

I’ve had the hormonal iud after I had my first and it messed with my hormones so bad, I took it out and then I immediately lost tons of weight, then got pregnant with my second child, I had them do the hormonal iud again, after a week it was moving! So I went back to get it taken out, the doctor recommended the copper iud because it is bigger and after having 2 kids my cervix was stretched more, so I decided to try it! Didn’t hurt at all, again it was because I’ve had two kids so my cervix opening was stretched out, I’ve had it in for 4 years, and I love it! I haven’t had any issues at all with it.

It's not bad at all. You've had a shot before and you know it's no biggie but if you read all about how shots are administered by sticking a needle in your skin through your muscle you would be too scared to go through with it. The IUD is the same thing. Sounds scary but not actually scary

Its not ethical to tell women who are thinking about it that its "not that bad" i mean im glad that is some womens experience but even the doctor that put mine in said (as i was screaming in pain) "so many women go through this, im sorry"... thats your proof right there. Ask for pain relief stronger than ibuprofen if they wont comply dont get it done with that doctor.

See No one tells you to take zinc to balance the copper,I went on with life and my zinc got depleted , copper overload and thyroid issues

I’ve had the ParaGard for almost 3yrs. I’ll be 48 this year. For awhile I was enjoying the benefits of this IUD. Now, im over bleeding each month. I bleed for 21dys and I stop for 7dys. Yeah, it’s been awful. Yes, I was warned about the heavy bleeding. However, I wasn’t expecting almost ALL MONTH. Yeah, making an appointment to get removed. Not sure, what else to do?

Currently on it not been on a few diffrent ones and gained weight alot of weight i was looking for something non hormonal and i found it was painful to put in but wasnt nothing horriable! Its my favorite! Only down side so far is it make menstral cycles long heavy and more painful than before as do other birthcontrol methods but it gets better over time!

This copper iud makes me so miserable I don’t know why I don’t just remove it . I have never felt this way so I know it’s the iud . I have never felt so drained and no energy a lot of women say it has mad them depressed etc and I feel this way . I made an appointment to get my copper levels checked

It's ok, worry free but today I got mine removed and one of the arms broke off during removal I was very lucky the doctor removed it in 2 pieces the same day without additional surgery but it can happen, just look it up

I like that he went into the biology of the mechanisms of action and got candid. But lets remember contraception is not just for cis gender women, when we use language we need to make sure we are using gender neutral language as health care providers. All people with a uterus who are sexually active may seek out contraception. and that includes transgender patients, and non binary patients. Not all trans/non binary/gender non conforming patients may opt for hysterectomy, meet the surgical clearance, or be able to afford one depending on they're insurance. so birth control is not just an issue for heterosexual cis gendered women. As a provider you may also be seeing patients who are transgender or on the non binary spectrum. so it is best to use gender neutral language so all patients feel welcome and equally relevant. An estimated 40% of transgender and non binary people a year avoid healthcare settings due to health care discrimination. So its vital that all of us as providers help stay current and educated to help further create equitable experiences for ALL patients.

@@mannyhood6024 insurance the provider is willing to accept has nothing to do with being inclusive and using inclusive language in the 20th century. Where everyday lgbtq patients receive reproductive Healthcare. The procedure itself is already uncomfortable. Being trans and getting an IUD with a provider who denies your very existence as a community, that's hugely traumatic for people like us. So your statement really makes no sense. You don't have to use progressive language based on insurance your willing to accept.
