But enforcing this would be impossible given that there are farm animals kept in the same conditions - dirty cold stables, no sunlight, veterinary care given only if it makes sense from business standpoint, otherwise slaughter. I am an owner of ferrets and reptiles. That attic broke my heart, seeing those geckos with shed skin stuck to them, they lose tails, toes, and can go blind also from retained skin. My cat was a rescue from a hoarding environment. She was kept in a cage with other cages stacked on top. When she was rescued, she was covered in feces and urine, she had mites all over her, fur missing around her neck from scratching at the mites, her front teeth missing (they didn't know if it was from malnutrition or from her trying to get out of her cage) and most of her remaining teeth had to be removed. She was so tiny that she looked like she was less than a year old, but she was 6 years old. She's been with me for 9 years now and is the sweetest most loving cat I have ever met. She has on-going respiratory issues and gets extremely upset when I have to put her in her carrier to go to the vet. I can't understand why people do this to defenseless animals. It breaks my heart watching this.

Have you tried using a cat harness and blanket? Mine had a similar story and at first I tried a carrier when I took him to the vet, but he banged against it so hard he had a swollen nose for a bit :( now I only take him with a harness and depending on the weather I'll either hold him or wrap him in a little blanket and he's been so much calmer ❤ even when we have to wait in the waiting room with other animals (even dogs) he just nuzzles his nose in my arms and sits calmly

My sister used to work at the Humane society in my area, and when cleaning cages one cat escaped.. he was from a major hoarding environment and was labeled "aggressive" but just ended up jumping on her back and watching her clean. She eventually just let him out every time and he never showed any signs of aggression. She adopted him and when she got a divorce she moved back in with my parents and I was still living there. That cat got so weirdly and lovingly attached to me, that she had to leave him with me when she moved back out. He was my little angel and had such a strong bond with me, he was my soul animal.

My cat can't handle confined spaces due to coming from a really bad situation as well. The only thing that ever helped was like a mesh net type carrier, and allowing and encouraging her to play with it, and start recognizing it as a nice place to play and sleep than being shoved into it. I haven't had a panic attack out of her from a vet visit in years now.

@xorxpert It’s been several hours since I watched this video and I may be wrong, but I think I remember 2 counts of animal cruelty and 10 counts of unhealthy conditions (or something like that). He received 12 hours in a program per count - or 1 day for every 2 counts. It's not even jail. It was a program. Everyone else probably would have received at least 30 days in jail for each count - maybe even 6 months each on the 2 cruelty charges. Regardless, where I am, people will serve anywhere from a month to 2 years in jail for what he did. 6 days in a rehabilitation program is a joke! What cruel person can learn anything in 6 days? It's not even jail. 🙄

Mental illness. It comes in many degrees of severity, sometimes from people who seem otherwise totally normal. I once knew some people who I thought were normal up until I discovered that one of their upstairs bathrooms had a leak so bad that the floor and structure of the house in that location was rotting. They didn't do anything to fix it, ever. They just avoided using the bathroom (because you'd probably fall through the floor if you did). This went on for years. Upper middle class people with plenty of money. These same people also owned a dog that they totally ignored except for feeding it. It lived in the backyard and was never walked or played with. When it got sick, and was visibly unwell and bloated, it was still ignored. It eventually died. It was never discussed.

My dog was a rescue. I adopted him last year from a shelter. The Humane Society rescued him and dozens of other dogs (dozens!) from a hoarder. He had fleas, was dirty, malnourished, and had signs of abuse. When I saw him, he was clean and treated for fleas. They gave him his shots, chipped and neutered him. He was only ten pounds. He was terrified of me at first, but I still wanted him. I’m a senior, living in a condo in a senior community. My place is quiet, no other adults, children or pets. On the way home from the shelter, I had him on my lap. I was looking at him when he looked up at me and licked my face. I knew everything would be okay.

That’s so precious! I had a similar experience with a cat I rescued from a hoarder. He had to have one of his back legs amputated. We were on our way home and he was terrified and had an accident in the car, I pulled over to clean him up, and I’ll never forget his sweet face as he looked up at me and smooshed his nose into my face like he was saying ‘thank you for cleaning me up!’. A close friend of mine adopted him and he’s so happy and spoiled now!

It’s already a felony, but the messed up part is the judge let the felony charges drop so he could get his plea deal. That’s the true injustice. Some child abuse cases they take a plea and don’t get the punishment they deserve. I wish he did get the felony charges so he could be put on a list that doesn’t allow him to ever have animals again

The ab**e of things like animals and children, who cannot properly advocate their own needs, is especially cruel. Even if the initial intention was rehabilitation, he overcommitted to animal care to the point that these poor creatures were severely neglected and ab**ed. This is sick.
