I also think that good horror leaves you unnerved. To be honest, I think movie directors should try looking back to many of Alfred Hitchcock's movies for ideas, and put more emphasis on atmosphere and suspense with a few earned jumpscares every once in a while.

Midsommar had a few scenes that left me unnerved. And that's because it spent so much time building that atmosphere. The only big horror I've missed this year was MA and Midsommar has easily been the best. The Childs Play remake was better than it had any right to be. It just should not have been called Childs Play. The idea of an AI seeing humans enjoying brutal horror and wanting to replicate it to gain their approval is an interesting idea.

The possession story line was that she was possessed by the blood in the mouth and became the demon bride, tried to stab the baby sitter but while they were fighting they accidentally kicked on a projector which started playing the video of the warrens doing the exorcism on the french dude Maurice, which in turn exorcised her and she became herself again. When it ends, he said sorry that he missed the movie, I said to him, "it's okay baby, you didn't miss anything.." Everything on The SCP Wiki is licensed under Creative Commons, which means you can create your own stuff from it, even profit off of it, but whatever YOU create with it is also under Creative Commons and thus anyone else can use it. My problem with how the movie Annabelle looks is that she doesn't look remotely like a doll that you would buy for ANYONE. I've always believed that you can make something cute into something scary. Take the Robby the Rabbit for example. He's adorable as a design, but when he's covered in blood and chasing you, he's horrifying! Make something ugly or intentionally creepy (the new pennywise design is a good example of the latter.) and it loses its scary factor and just becomes "scary because it's supposed to be".

I went to see Annabelle Comes Home and I thought it was great, actually. I don’t see why some people are hating on it. It was very eerie, creepy, suspenseful, and nostalgic. The performances were strong and the scares were creative/unique. This was a strong, well-needed addition to The Conjuring Universe. I really loved it.

I love horror movies. There's nothing scary about Annabelle at all. Props for including Freddy's Dead though. 👌

This movie nearly put me to sleep and I saw one of the first shows opening night. It's the same jump scare copy and pasted for at least 45 minutes of it's runtime. Walk down dark area, score starts to rise, go silent while character looks around for threat and loud jumpscare. It wasn't even a fun haunted house ride and none of those scenes had any tension. You nailed that impression of a modern horror GA audience too. At least Chucky was alive and unpredictable. Annabelle does nothing. The demon can be surrounded by a group of other demons and still be defeated by a group of clueless teenagers and a little girl with a cross. The Childs Play movies are ridiculous but you still had to outsmart Chucky. The babysitter in this was easily able to grab the Annabelle doll out of the grips of that coin eyed guy. Such a threat.

I lived in the town the Warrens lived for most of my life, and even met both of them shortly before Ed died. Were they bullshit artists, the real deal, or a bit of both? I don't know. But I do know that they were genuinely amazing people who cared so much about others and doing what they could to help them. They may not have have cast out any demons or ghosts but they sure gave a lot of people some peace of mind.
