1979 was the year Coronation Street peaked. Imagine a cast of characters who crossed the generations coming together at the same time. Annie Walker, Deirdre, Bet Lynch, Ken Barlow, Emily, Elsie, Fred, Len, Mavis, Rita, Billy Walker, Ena Sharples, Alf, Hilda, Albert Tatlock, Renee, Mike Baldwin, Betty Turpin, Stan Ogden, Eddie Yeates. Far better than the coronation street these days !!!! That try to keep pace with EastEnders for doom gloom and violence !!!!! It's lost it's comedy, characters and IDENTITY !!!! NO WONDER I DONT WATCH IT NOW ! and I haven't watched it since it changed and it turned into a murder mystery and suicidal drama, a competition in arrogance where sadly lost is respect and friendliness for others , I don't think I am on my own when I say all this !!

This era late 70s-80s-mid 90s was when Corrie became an art form. The great Rovers bar camera weaved its way round from group to group as actors timed it too perfection & the Bet & Alec show behind bar then Hilda & Stan too the Corner shop antics plus Mike Baldwin. It's the only soap I watched. Then the Aussie soaps arrived & Corrie lowered it's standards too meet that Billy can of rubbish & that was that. RIP Corrie.
