That was a beautifully acted scene between Percy and Emily.

Ivy was definitely in the wrong over Gail and Martin but by now had clearly got past it. The way Don behaves from this point onwards clearly put him firmly in the wrong and it was most certainly not Ivy's fault.

Sorry to be a curmudgeon, but I do find modern, over done, over blown weddings quite revolting, so Rita's lovely little reception is just perfect & a lesson to all that bigger is not necessarily better.

…arse? 🤣 I agree 100%. *useless comment warning* - my cousin grew up with her daughters in Leeds. She and the daughters _are_ Vera Duckworth 😒 loud, common (jeezo I hate that word 😀), fearless, spiteful, venomous…struggling to come up with more appropriate adjectives but you get the gist I hope!! 😧 I’m sure she was a lovely wifie but there seemed to be little separation between character and real human…😲

the Don Brennan story is brilliantly acted but it has to be one of the most miserable downfalls of a decent man I have ever seen. His marriage to Ivy is achingly depressing, and his inability to get out of it before it is too late, is truly tragic.

I feel Percy was the streets whipping boy when he was one of the nicest characters in the soap nothing nasty or malicious probably why they did it imagine a nation of folk that think like Percy my god how different England would be. Alma is a mug she’s just setting herself up for a massive fall…..good. I take it the “retreat” was either suspension or rehab Poor Don imagine knocking yourself off & the 1st thing you see when you come round is Ivy😂

Yes although you sometimes feel like gagging old Percy, he really does belong to a generation that looked out for their family & neighbours, felt wanted, if they were the protectors Prided themselves on seeing all was well, doing their very best for god & the king or queen & all around them. Percy tries so hard to help to feel wanted & needed not for veinglory but basic humanity & The innate oath to protect & save. He meddles because he feels he has to have the facts to be able to protect & defend He hates vulgarity & the lowering of standards hes tried to safeguard all his life. But there have been quite a few times hes averted a catastrophe Or protected others You have to give & take & understand where Percys generation grew up alongside during the last war. The 2 things that brought tears to my eyes re; Percy, was when his flat was ready & he left Emilys Then Jenny Bradley saw him sitting alone & forlorn & so Despondent on the seats in the park like a little lost soul. Next when Perce stood at The Rovers back gate watching Alec load up crates He looked like little boy lost, watching Alec, hands stuffed into his pockets & asking in such a woefull, repentant way if Alec wanted help ( as hed barred percy) I could have given him a big cuddle, poor little old man. He's beyond himself about Emily & her odd behaviour He knows something is wrong but cant articulate what it is. I once hated Phyllis for mithering Percy & felt she was peculiar for being man mad & obsessed with sex at her age. It does seem distasteful & vulgar & a total anathema to Percys sense of decorum! But over the past few months his & Phyllis's hide & seek is quite hilarious! Actually I recently learned that in real life Bill Waddington ( Percy) & Gill Summers ( phyllis) Have been the greatest of friends since 1942 when they were on the Bill to entertain the British & British Isles servicemen abroad Bill ( percy) was a very funny fast delivery comedian & Gill was ( Phyllis) was a belter of a kind of jazzy bluesy big band sound She fronting either the Joe Loss Band or Victor Sylvesters Band I think theyd have to know each other extremely well & be great pals to effect the horrible things they say to each other as Percy & Phyllis ! Regards 🇬🇧👧

I can see where Don is coming from, Ivy can be hard work esp when she gets this hard bitter toxic venomous mantle about her. But she had several heartaches in her life She & Bert lost quite a few pregnancies & they had a still born daughter before Brian Its why she had such a grip on Brian, terrified to lose him. Then, her lovely patient Bert dies in a fairly quick time span Which floors her, so her desparate attempt to hold into Bry-unnn & Gail & Nicky was smothering Then Brian is murdered! She's devastated Who among us can say just how we'd cope with everything Ivy has borne No one, has fully supported Ivy Gail was badly behaved to Ivy Knowing how precious her faith is, Gail denied Ivy a Catholic burial which i thought was unforgivable! How would it have hurt Gail to let Ivy bury her only remaining child within his & her faith? After a few dalliances Ivy meets Don who i personally thought was too aggressive & dominating with a lack of humour & not supportive at all. Then Gail sticks the knife in again by having a child to young Martin & letting him adopt BOTH of Brians kids Gail should have let Nicky keep Brians surname just for Ivy Plenty of households have kids with different surnames to their siblings & even to their parents So why not let Nicky stay Tilsley for Ivy Gail is so vinductive & petty & cruel to Ivy & very spiteful I envy Ivys faith, which without it she wouldnt have survived nor forgiven Im not Catholic or any strong faith as i see truths in every religion, im more of a pragmatist & don't believe in miracles I had a career in Psychology for 35yrs so think we make our own miracles not a divine being, but i give kudos to those like Ivy who have a very strong faith. I dont rate Don, never did, not for Ivy, hes a liar & a cheat & does it all behind poor trusting Ivys back Even Julie, Dons " friend" liked Ivy & has been more honourable than Don has. I dont know these stories, so dont know Ivy & Dons future But my heart goes out to Ivy shes a survivor & fighter & if her veneer is brittle & jagged then its life & rotten people who've made her that way. Ok Ivy isn't real but the sterotype of Ivy exists in many women out there. Corrie is so good in highlighting & illustrating events & terrible fates in their characters that mirror real problems Which in a very understanding way, help those who are going through lifes sticky wicket & helping them through in a visual way. God Bless to All, and each of you go with your God. Greetings 🇬🇧👧

Emily got £14k when Ernie died, she should have bought 2 houses as houses like hers were going for £7k back then. In the time period in this video, houses like her's were going for £30k. I know many people who have done that and live comfortably in their retirement by renting out their mortgage free properties, I know hoarding houses does not help the economy, but it is a very smart investment and the aristocrats have been doing it for centuries. I mean why let £14k be left in the bank doing f all, someone as smart as Emily should know about inflation as well....

@@bonbon0416 yeah, but she wasn't portraying depression. if anything her acting was more like a clinical breakdown. depression isn't like a tap, that you can switch on and off for different people. you can see through the façade very easily. emily though takes comfort in the past, because her long-term memory isn't as fragile as her short-term memory; a common symptom of dementia and alzheimer's. the mood swings too. no. i think itv got cold feet about how far to go with this story; in my opinion. this is around the time of prozac, and people turning to anti-depressants rather than other types of stimulants, like alcohol, or other people.

Oh ho, no it isnt, among certain age groups of families from the post war years. It was only a decade ago that i became friends with an artist from a northern coalmining town In Britain. When my friend took me to meet his mum & dad i was flabbergasted to hear his mum refer to my pals dad as Mr Jones In turn, my friends dad called his mum Mrs Jones Then to each other... They called out Mummy & Daddy They were in their 70s & my friend in his mid 50s I was astounded by this but once aware of it ive gone on to hear many women refer to their husbands ( while chatting outside with female pals) as Oh Mr Jones this Or Mr Brown that.. Never a given christian name Like our Fred or our Jim Just :- " Well i asked Mr Brown yesterday what did he want for tea, & 3 times i asked him before he answered!! Hmmph" It just seems to be the older generation, that do this formality! Those born after the wars end in the 1950s ( like me in 53) We dont do this! Watch old Brit family films shot during world war 2, the people address their husbands & wives So formally such as Mr...this Or Mrs...that Sadly its dying out now. Regards 🇬🇧👧

Percy comes across as either Autistic or suffering from PTSD from war experiences, the way he has to keep talking about it. He overtalks and is socially inept.
