As someone who has played golf competitively for over 50 years and is currently a golf coach/instructor, this may well have been the very best and most useful video I have ever had the pleasure of viewing -- which I have done more often than once. And if all my players could hit on demand as well as Matt does, I could retire happily

@@gracesiegert6171 There are a lot of golf YoutTube channels where they haven't anywhere near that level of control over their ball striking. Now that being said - they do have the benefit of being able to do as many takes as needed to get the proper strike. It would be interesting to see how many it takes Matty to nail exactly what they're looking for :-)

Best video I have seen for years. I am someone with the exact issue that was highlighted in the last swing. I tee it pretty high and my bad shot is always a thin one out the toe which is truly nasty. I have seen hundreds of videos explaining the reason and giving lots of swing drills but this one video with 14 minutes of info on the impact of the club face bulge and roll and its direct correlation to spin and launch has TURNED THE LIGHTS ON!!!! I often do tee it down to try and play that little squeeze fade fairway finder and land up hitting the bombed draw off the tee. A simple explanation with a simple method to practice and combat the problem has literally clarified 5 years worth of issues and 30y left on the table. Now to just get out there after the lock down and see this in action. Cannot thank you guys enough.

That's exactly what I was thinking right off the hop. Of course when you compare it to the 342 with proper contact that's almost 60 yards. So for the decent mid handicapper that only has 260 max - on a percentage basis that player is now topping out at 215. That's 4 clubs extra into the green. So instead of playing a 7 iron into the green - now you're hitting a hybrid or fairway wood (I'm assuming that with the clubs available today that no player in that handicap range is gaming a proper 3 iron). That's a big difference.

Ian: great point about the super high tee. In an attempt to hit more up on the driver for more distance. I was too much weigh on my trail side, lead shoulder tilting up not rotating and then you're kind of flipping at it. The swing flaw trickled into my entire game. Went back to regular tee height(1/2 ball above driver head) and feeling my lead shoulder goes down and around. if you think about it, the driver head is moving upward due to forward ball position and legs are rising up from squatting at the start of the downswing. When I strike the ball above the equator of the face results are pretty good. I see what you"re talking about on the range all the time and unfortunately I was one of those people. Matt's ability to hit shots on demand is amazing, you should do a video where you work him through his bag and have him hit different shots with different clubs. Stay well and thank you for the great content.

This is really interesting stuff and I really found it useful. I am in my 60's and only been golfing for 10 yrs but have 105 SS and have been struggling with distance on my driver, as compared to what I used to hit with same SS. I now play at sea level too, which hurts from where I used to play. Anyway, since being grounded I was playing around on my mat hitting into the net and trying different tee heights. I sprayed the face with foot powder. I found that I got a much more centred strike from lowering my tee height so am looking forward to getting back to a real range to work on it some more

This video completely changed the way I swing my driver. For the better btw. I always understood the basics of "hit up for lower spin and higher launch" but after watching this video it just made it so much easier to comprehend. I swing 108-112 driver and mostly carried 250 with 11degree lofted driver. Now I changed it to 9 degree and I'm hitting higher and carrying 270 more often. Only change in my swing was tee it up 1" higher and feel like my head n body stays back on impact. Thanx guys!

Lads. A big thank you here, played my first 9 holes since the lockdown here in Ireland. Ive been away from the game for a few years and started playing again in October. I play to 16. Ive been struggling with distance off the tee, hitting toe and low balls. Very little distance. I have a g400 lst with hzrdous yellow 76g 6.0. Its a bit stiff for me with my 85mph swing speed. But im also a out to in and steep. Until i watched this video and teed it much higher. Top 3/4 off the ball above the face and forward. Suddenly im swinging flatter and hitting the ball on the up. Ive started hitting high face and toe to centre. Raised my apex by 30% and gained 30 yards plus straight or draw. The yellow is not optimal and ill be doing a fitting in a few months when normality returns. But i thought id say thanks and slainte

What a great video to show the impact tee height can make. I unknowingly was teeing my ball to the middle of the driver last summer and my drives just kept coming up shorter than normal. About 2 or 3 weeks left in the season I realized it and started hitting my normal distances again and then some. It's crazy how finite it can be.

I shared your video with a friend whom I've been trying to explain this concept to for 6 or 9 months after picking it up from you guys and he immediately understood it. I think the key takeaway (that I got from you many months ago) is that the ideal strike is above the equator and out towards the toe which produces a long draw. Perhaps your best video ever!

The reason why so many people tee the ball too low creating more spin and you tell them to tee it more up,they all say " I don't like to do that because I will swing under the ball every time ". It's true, because they swing down at the ball and not up. No matter how much I try, they don't get it. Great video, I wish title would had " Attention all hackers"

Holy bejesus! I knew tee height and attack angle were important but the drastic differences were crazy and I've long been told that at 6'1" 240lbs and 100 mph (driver) speed that I'm very short for my effort. I know I tee low and strike is often thin and now I know why guys look sideways at me and remark how they expected more when it ends up 225-235 with good hits still under 250 typically 240. There's more out there for me without much improvement in speed just tee and delivery changes. Can't wait to get out there to practice this.

Ian, you mentioned this vid in today's live so I thought I'd watch it ! A couple of years ago I went from teeing high and hitting it well to then getting it too high on the face and going left, right and high. I changed tee and lost distance and height so I went to the range and worked on trying to hit slightly high and slightly in the toe and the ball went back to flying high and long. Dry shampoo showed me strike and that really helped given I don't have access to a quad. I didn't think about the roll having an affect too, I suppose that's the problem with not knowing enough about the technical aspects of the game. Great vid both of you, really useful, thank you.

TXG, You taught me something. Thanks. I am the guy who either tees it high and falls backwards, or tees it too low and strikes it low. Definitely will work on point of impact. I had no idea the static loft of the clubface varies from top to bottom. Duh! My driver trajectory has varied greatly and is sometimes a surprise to me. I can now see impact point on the face is the unknown factor, in addition to AOA. BTW, based on the comments below, I think you should limit your discussion of distance to carry only to avoid confusion. My course is soft at sea level, so rollout is minimal.

another fabulous video boys. Matty your club control to show us each shot is amazing (even if their is some editing). Ian love the understanding you have and how you explain stuff. Honestly shocked that loft changes so much across the face top to bottom. It explains why when I'm driving it well I have to reduce driver loft as I naturally hit it a bit high in the clubface and when I'm down on confidence in the driver I have to loft up the head as my strike gets lower on the head. It makes a bit of sense as to why I have to do that now as opposed to me doing it to purely help my driving as something I have found works. Thanks.

Reality is 91% of golfers in world are mid to high handicapped which is why every year major golf brands focus on selling clubs that are guaranteed to go straight no matter how bad the swing. Great video and information. But what really blows my mind is all the freaking data that machine catches! It blows my mind that it can get the point of impact on the face, spin, club face angle I mean it's just mind-blowing!

I'm 105mph SS with the driver and only 220M on a good one, maybe i should look at moving my tee height up and strike. I have the F8 in 10.5 so plenty of loft, but I slice it so the higher strike taking off some backspin might help a lot! Great video guys, shows exactly how vital correct tee height is and what the wrong tee height does to launch and spin.

There is a guy at my club that uses illegal 6 inch tees (4 inches is the limit) he has a bent down negative 2 degree loft driver. He has about 188 to 190 ball speed which you think would be like 340-350 carry. He consistently carrys it over 400 yards. Ball position is way past the front foot. 1400 spin over 23 degrees of launch. Incredible.

I have read that using a shorter tee makes it easier to control and keeps it on the fairway more often. That works for me.

Great science, guys. January in Canada, so I need to wait a few months to apply this information, but can't wait to do it!

WOW....The higher tee and lower on the face describes my problem. High spin is a definite for me. I'll be working on the tee height tomorrow at the range.

Great video lads. Went out today and tried a few different heights with driver and three woods. Hitting it so much better with a lower tee.
