Hi Alicia, I would cut the yarn a little longer and then use the knot for securing the project like you said. Then I would weave in the loose ends...just make sure to weave in and out of the same stitches. If you do that it is basically the same as tying a knot but you have to go back and forth through the same stitches a couple of times....but tying a knot just adds that extra security!!

Thank you Bobby Thompson for another tutorial that is outstanding. I am no longer a beginner, but I like to review techniques before starting a project. You make clear unhurried tutorials that are filled with detailed instructions, but happily not a lot of chatter. And you have a pleasant upbeat voice that is instructional, but does not sound either condescending or grudgingly made.

I've been crocheting for more years than I can count and finally found someone who really SHOWS you how to switch colors correctly and how to crochet the ends in. Now I can direct her to your site and she can learn, because she sure isn't learning from me :)

I just started learning how to crochet on my own a month ago using KZbin. Learned SC then learned moss stitch immediately after. After making a scarf and a granny square I decided to make a striped baby blanket for a coworker. This helped a lot with switching colors even though I’m using moss stitch. The tutorial I was using taught everything except the color change.
