Correction, a Jackal, in this cannon, is someone who loves this show and is also committed to accuracy. A Jackal would never say "Corrections is boring, self-indulgent and long." We were discussing classic comedy routines from Noises Off with Carol Burnette and John Ritter and the stage phone bit with the ringing sound effect came up. Thinking about how hard that was to coordinate I flashed back to a memory of high school where a friend had a working phone in his locker. When the principal opened the locker to get the phone it was already gone. What a rare pleasure it was to get the joke finally over 50 years later and realize how he pulled that off including removing the wire. Like savoring a 50 year single malt, it was very low key.

Talking about the death of Mr. Peanut and drawing attention to the laughter of a single member of the staff reminded me of one of the greatest TV episodes ever "Chuckles Bites The Dust" of the Mary Tyler Moore show. In it Chuckles the Clown, dressed as Peter Peanut as the Grand Marshal of a parade gets "Shelled" by a rogue elephant and killed. Later at the funeral after a week of being solemn about the tragedy Mary keeps laughing at the eulogy, and when the priest tells her to go ahead and laugh to honor Chuckles she burst out crying. And I am certain someone has cried at the end of one of these shows. A Little Song A Little Dance A little Seltzer Down Your Pants - Aunt Yoo-hoo
