Need the Jackal merch. Pizza Hats. Literally every mug ever. Corrections is one of the best things to come out of the pandemic and Late Night needs to capitalize. Probably one of the most popular segments other than A Closer Look. It gives Seth and the crew a chance to interact with the audience in a way other late night hosts don't. Has it really been a year? It feels shorter.

I think it's totally adorable!!! My mom used to cross out sections in our bedtime books with notes for the babysitter, "do not read" because, she said later, childhood is short and you have the rest of your life to learn about sad things. You don't need to hear them from anyone else but Mommy and Daddy, in case you have questions. (I think mostly it was a kindness to the babysitter to not have crying kids when the hunter meets Bambi's mom in the woods.)😋 But still, incredibly sweet of you! 🌷

Seth, I'm going to make you happy by correcting a jackal. Charlotte's thorax did NOT burst open to let all her babies out. This is incorrect on two parts. First off, she had an egg sac, which she explained in great detail to Wilbur and which Templeton the rat retrieved to take back to the farm for the spiderlings to hatch from. Second, because spiders do not have a thorax that is separate from their other body parts. Their head and thorax are fused together into a cephalothorax, which is tiny compared to the spider's abdomen. But even the abdomen would not have burst, because egg sac.

Hi Seth, I've been here since day one and I'm loving corrections. I've never offered a correction myself, but this week I can't help myself. There are many unambiguously bipedal animals you could have chosen for your example: the kangaroo rat, the gibbon, or the pangolin to name a few. And yet you chose the kangaroo. Kangaroos are not simply bipedal. The kangaroo is perhaps unique among animals, as research shows it is the only animal (that we know of) that is *penta*pedal. In a paper published in 2014 in the Royal Society's Biology Letters, researchers show that the kangaroo's tail acts as a fifth leg. The paper's abstract: "When moving slowly, kangaroos plant their tail on the ground in sequence with their front and hind legs. To determine the tail's role in this ‘pentapedal’ gait, we measured the forces the tail exerts on the ground and calculated the mechanical power it generates. We found that the tail is responsible for as much propulsive force as the front and hind legs combined. It also generates almost exclusively positive mechanical power, performing as much mass-specific mechanical work as does a human leg during walking at the same speed. Kangaroos use their muscular tail to support, propel and power their pentapedal gait just like a leg." royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rsbl.2014.0381 Even when kangaroos stand or hop without their forelimbs, they generally use their tail as a third limb and exhibit tripedal locomotion (the only animal known to do this besides parrots). Although they are capable of hopping along using only two legs, this bipedal form of locomotion is the equivalent of a human sprinting; it is used relatively infrequently. They also sometimes move quadrapedally using only their fore and hinds limbs. To call the kangaroo merely bipedal does not give this unique bi/tri/quad/penta-pedal animal the credit it is due. My apologies if scientific research is a bit much for you! If so, please reference this letter written by a zookeeper to a seven year old boy named Isiah. Perhaps that will be more your speed: www.northgeorgiazoo.com/zoo-am-i-blog/just-ask-a-zookeeper-qa#:~:text=Kangaroos%20are%20known%20for%20their,like%20why%20we%20humans%20run. Keep up the great work, buddy! And remember, as that friendly zookeeper says, the best way to learn new things is to ask questions! EDIT: Here is a video of a kangaroo using pentapedal locomotion if anyone is interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJi6e2x6g5aEl80

interesting.... I live in Aotearoa/New Zealand and all our supermarkets are the same layout (granted all owned by one of two larger organisations) - fresh fruit & veggies FIRST, always - have to walk through the entire store to get to essentials, bread, milk & diary products, eggs etc (wine lol) - right at the end - have to walk through the entire store to get to them - that's where your impulse buying happens - the places inbetween (esp shelves at end of aisle) - a LOT of research & physiology goes into layout of supermarkets, malls etc - there used to be an awesome Australia TV show called the The Gruen Transfer - which discussed "the methods, science and psychology behind advertising" (sounds dull, really funny & entertaining - panel show (with real marketing experts) with lots of comedy - the Gruen transfer (also known as the Gruen effect) is the moment when consumers enter a shopping mall or store and, surrounded by an intentionally confusing layout, lose track of their original intentions, making them more susceptible to making impulse buys. It is named after Austrian architect Victor Gruen, who disapproved of such manipulative techniques

Just a spider? Charlotte is a projection of empathy, compassionate awareness and altruistic action. She undertakes enormous effort to preserve the life of another from being slaughtered by a predator who presents contrasting characteristics that deliver haunting revelations to the reader. The inability of the farmer to empathize with a creature he intends to sell for consumption does not know the extent of the awareness he intends to end becomes increasingly chilling when you consider the fact that the conveyance of the web woven message to the farmer about Wilbur defines a connectivity between awareness', advocating for the pigs life to have value to the famer. The farmer saw value only for the farmer. Value in exploitation and more sinisterly the reoccurrence of slaying the animal as a means to make money once fame no longer produced profit. The idea that we can reduce or even remain ignorant to the empathetical treatment of another awareness because of economic convenience is troubling but the persistence of Charlotte in being a voice for Wilbur when he would otherwise have none and the unifying effect she had on the other farm animals through her selflessness is inspiring. When Charlotte died so also did her immense and profound character, leaving behind her those touched by the way she lived her life having been rendered more aware of each other. Learning why sharing their space more kindly matters. I think that there is more than one message about mortality being delivered. I think of this book and consider, What may I do before my end, that will leave those behind me better off for my having been a part of their existence?

Also, I wonder if Wally's Cue Card guy Brian had lines, would a third Cue Card guy (or gal) be required? Or would Wally hold up Brain's lines as well? I'm just imagining a whole nesting doll situation with Cue card people, Brain holds Wally's card, Mike holds Brain's cards, Leo holds Mike's cards, Ralph holds Leo's cards, Donatello holds Ralph's cards, and so on and so on. In this scenario, the Ninja Turtles are part of the Late Night crew.

A quick correction for the person who commented on Charlotte's thorax bursting: Spiders do not have a thorax, they instead have a body segment called a cephalothorax or prosoma, which is a fusion of the head and thorax of insects. Furthermore, the reproductive organs are held in their other body segment, the abdomen.
@alindasue
@alindasue 2 жыл бұрын
Add to that, the babies are not carried in the spider. They are born from the sack of eggs that she laid. The egg sack is even prominently mentioned in the book, as it describes how Wilber protects the egg sack during the trip back to the farm after the fair.

@@alistor3777 I'm not an expert on the subject, but I guess it would depend on how technical one wants to be. Not a correction, but an interesting fact to add on to the ED in ED situation. ED is also what the medical community calls Eating Disorders. So theoretically there is a sad world in which a man walks into the ED with ED and ED.
@mariannecontrino6297
@mariannecontrino6297 2 жыл бұрын
You can go ahead and add one more ED to that list, because it also stands for "Emotionally Disabled". You don't hear the term too often, as it is primarily used in schools to classify students who may need special ed, similar to LD(Learning Disabled), and CD(Cognitively Disabled). They're typically kids who have experienced some sort of mental/physical abuse, leaving them emotionally stunted, and prone to lashing out....aka "Shoemakered".

A correction of a correction - a meteor can't hit anything. A meteor is purely a visual phenomenon; it's the streak of light left behind a meteorite as it vapourises in the atmosphere. The physical object in question is either a meteoroid (when it's in space) or a meteorite (after it enters the atmosphere).
@insane_troll
@insane_troll 2 жыл бұрын
That is not right. Here is what it says on the NASA website: Meteoroids are objects in space that range in size from dust grains to small asteroids. Think of them as “space rocks." When meteoroids enter Earth’s atmosphere (or that of another planet, like Mars) at high speed and burn up, the fireballs or “shooting stars” are called meteors. When a meteoroid survives a trip through the atmosphere and hits the ground, it’s called a meteorite.
