@tananatana40114 жыл бұрын
@@vedantgole231 I understand, but Light didn't really see Near as that much of a threat to be honest. He feared Mello because the guy was crazy and wanted him dead as fast as possible, but he saw Near as a boy who's playing it safe so he didn't really try with him. L is obviously MUCH MUCH more capable than Near, but Light defeated L because he saw him as a superior so a LOT OF PRESSURE WAS ON HIM. Light just heavily underestimated everyone else from the very beginning he killed L, he got cocky and started killing way too fast which led to his death. The painful part to me is there are so many "Death Note" stories people can tell. It doesn't have to be the battle of Light and L or N and that one kid who basically killed trump. You could drop the Deathnote into any country in any time period with any type of character and get a wild ride. But instead we got this.

Light and L are overly-emotional idiots instead of calculating geniuses, Misa/Mia is a manipulative psychopath instead of a well-intentioned but kind of dumb girl who is constantly manipulated, Ryuk goes out of his way to influence what's going on instead of staying out of it and acting as a spectator.

His manga death showed what he truly is; a pitiful, egotistical coward that isn't any better than the "criminals" he kills. It's honestly why the musical for Death Note is one of the best adaptations of the franchise; it keeps that death the same as the manga.

i really missed the part of multiple shinigami and the whole “forgetting the death note exists and then it coming back to them when they touch it” plot point, that was one of my favorite little plotlines in the anime.
@RustedBuddy5192 Жыл бұрын
Essentially Light made that plan assuming that the memories are connected to the death note and whoever touches it. There were two death notes. To see the other shinigami you need to touch THEIR Death note. If he didnt do that weird cycle before turning himself in, its implied that he would only remember the memories involving ryuk and not rem, the other shinigami. His theory was that if he transfers ownership while holding on one of the death notes then goes through that cycle, he'll intertwine what memories each note brings back. Making it so that as soon as he touches EITHER of the notes once again he'll have the full picture/full memories involving both of the shinigamis and their notes. Same would go for Misa once she touches one of the notes. However, and mind you this is my interpretation, this was also just a theory. Light set this plan up so that even if he was wrong and that he didnt get any memories back, his life would simply work out as having caught the fake kira he assigned alongside L as the hero. He made it so that no matter happened he would win as either Kira or Light Yagami, L's side kick.

I still to this day do not understand why lights mother has to be dead and his farther is a dead beat, the whole idea and character of Light Yagami is that he was born for success, he’s got an amazing home life, he’s a natural genius, he’s very attractive, he’s rich, and he’s constantly reminded by the people around him that he’s great and it’s justified, so when he gets the death note he goes from a guy who likely has a large ego to having a full on god complex, making him a poor high schooler with a bad upbringing takes away so much character, he’s not a calculating, manipulative genius that’s aiming to take over the world, he’s an edgy high school kid that would probably shoot up the school and just got the death note instead

Death Note doesn't work as a movie. Period. The ideas are so deep in the anime that I was thinking about them for days. To your point, one of the most important scenes is when Light and L are contrasted, Light being a groomed genius and L being a mad genius. L was better in a raw sense, but ultimately dies because Light has superior resources, i.e., advanced knowledge of Shinigami. It wasn't a perfect information game, or else Light wouldn't have made it long enough to even temporarily "win"

i agree with this analysis so much! it's the like movie directors wanted light to be seen as the underdog finally getting his claim to fame, while the original light was the top dog. he was cool, smart, popular, the exact opposite of light turner. the movie directors butchered light's character and everything he stood for lol tumblr has a post that analyses both characters flawlessly i laughed so much at the last line. yeah light turner would probably be THAT guy who shoots but there's a debate to had there. would the original light shoot up a school? (if they made him white, they could have channeled his anger and put that line in the script, that he's a genius who's so bored of life that he may shoot up a school just for the kicks (if they made turner as smart as yagami, he would be aware of his privilege as a white man, and maybe that would have been an interesting political statement? since the directors did intend to make a racial point, imo)) i think that even though light may have the intelligence or even motivation to pull something like that, his character is shown as "wants to commit violence, but is too well-behaved/held back by society to do so". case in point: 1. he wants to hit misa, but he doesn't actually do it (because he wants her to like him to use her) 2. with naomi misora, wants to use force to extract her real name, but doesn't do so (doesn't want to cause a scene) which leads us to believe that light is confident that if he wanted to use force against a _trained FBI ex-agent_ he could overpower her, but he doesn't 3. at the HQ, his dad keeps telling him "not to keep a lady waiting" now ofc light is a psychopath and couldn't give two shits about misa, he plays the part of an obedient and well-mannered son, and this can even be seen when he loses his power: he refuses to "use" misa for the investigation there's a whole another debate about how misogynistic he is, and how that's just hidden under the surface of nice behaviour, haha light is more of an emotional abuser than a physical one
@PhyreI3ird4 жыл бұрын
@@agarsrish Light's original motives in the anime was to rid the world of awful people and it was just a case of ego + "ends justify the means" attitude that made him act so horribly in most cases. Also, who hasn't wanted to smack an idiot after they do something stupid? I don't think it's fair to call him a psychopath just because of some of his worse traits having slight similarities to the condition. When I watched the Netflix version (before I watched the anime) I thought Ryuk was a demon, bent on corrupting Light. In the anime, Ryuk is amoral and dropped the note into the human realm because he was bored. This made him a much more interesting character.

Thats a generous criticism. I think Death note may be one of the only anime to have potential as a live action series or movie. The thing is that this could've been amazing, but was terrible. I'm not saying the movie is good, it made me furious beyond comprehension. I would say the best summation of this movie is that if someone read the basic facts about the show and the movie, they would literally be mirror opposites of each other. "A (live action film/animated show) set in (America/Japan) stars Light, a student who (cheats on tests for others/is top of his class), who finds a notebook with (a lot of rules/near limitless power) that can kill whoever you write the name of inside. He decides to use this notebook to (kill a few guys/purge the entire world of crime). He is pursued by L, a (highly emotional/emotionless genius) who (knows what continent Kira is on/is literally always a step ahead of Kira). Light is accompanied by (Mia/Misa) a (b!tchy fellow student/bimbo fashion model) potential love interest who (wants the power of the notebook for herself and tries to kill him/is utterly devoted to Kira's cause and does whatever he says). Light acts (very stupid/in a calculated manner) throughout the narrative, striking fear into the hearts of criminals for (like a week/7 years), before being taken down by (Mia writing his name in the book, forcing him to kill her and go into a coma for several days/an elite squad pulling a triple decoy trap on him, which he almost escapes from)."

what? L was straight up the worst part and most annyoing character in the movie. ALso, why tf is he black?
@sinnmoss28337 жыл бұрын
cause he's black. Light is the worse part of this movie. Idk how L is. L did well in the first half. Then the script literally made him a crazy mes where all he did was act on emotions. Even the house scene I was yelling. L the girl is going to take the book. Bro come on. L your way smarter than that. I mean you deduce the bitch is from seattle. Not only that the father was a complete idiot. But fuck all that. L was annoying? Light literally gets a book one day. Screamed like a little bitch. Brings the book in the next day and reads it while everyone was playing basketball i think. Then the girl who was "Semi" interested in him for some unknown reason asks him what he's reading and he decides to hide then. Then he was like "wait I can probably fuck this chick" so he tell her what the book does and kill someone is a "spectacular" way to show her the new power he has. So now they are killing and fucking and he's like. Well now I get call myself Kira so people might think he japanese. But the mistake he made in the beginning was that he killed someone in seattle to impress a god damn chick he wanted to fuck. So it wasn't that hard for L to deduced that Light might be Kira. The most irritating part was the father anyways but lets continue the bs. The girl basically manipulated this whole shit and he's thinking it was the shinigami the whole time. Then he realizes oh shit. It was mia he is forced to take what he needs in action. Here is the thing though. If the book manipulates the event that happens, sucking out someone free will. How in the fuck do Light have the free will to come up with that plan. And he thought of that plan in like 5 mins. Not only that. The page that was torn out says. He would die from a heart attack. That was it. That mean Light should of probably just died from a heart attack. If not are we suppose to believe she wrote everything on one page of the book and wrote kira dies from a heart stop beating on another. If so then he couldn't come up with the plan via manipulation. But no fuck logic. I mean. Why is L black? Isn't he asian? I mean come on. L is annoying. He's black too. and he's annoying. I like Light because he's smart and he's white.... I hate retarded people.

A little extra, albeit a bit late, about Light showing Misa the notebook. Because there are more reasons that it's stupid. In the original series, when Misa shows up to his house, he doesn't trust he at all. Misa hands her notebook to him and even says he can just keep it if he wanted. But when it came time for Misa to touch his Death Note to see Ryuk, he wasn't even willing to do that. He made her turn around before he would touch her with his page in his wallet. He was not willing to show *anyone* his notebook, even after Misa proved that she was, in fact, the second Kira. You could say it's because he didn't want to show her it's hiding place, but it still proves the same point. Light, in the original series, did his best to plan for every outcome. He wasn't willing to show Misa his death note because he didn't want her to even have the chance to give it's location away. He wouldn't let any loose ends slide, that's why he lost in the end. All his efforts to erase all the possible leads to him made it impossible for him to escape his trapped situation. But the fact remains that he wouldn't show the book to anyone if he didn't absolutely have to, he wouldn't even let Misa know that he had a page in his wallet.

They literally had the perfect actor for Ryuk, and a phenomenal story and they somehow created hot, sweaty corn filled Diarrhea from it. I will never understand how Hollywood consistently does this with anime movies. It CAN’T be that difficult to stay close to the anime while changing little things here and there and expanding on some stuff. It can’t be that hard to make a halfway decent adaptation. But for some reason when it comes to video games and anime Hollywood just goes brain dead.

I feel like Netflix tried to make Light like the “hero” of the show. The point of the anime is that Light is NOT a good person. He doesn’t have a reason to kill people. In the movie, they make it some revenge plot where his mom was killed and his dad is distant or whatever. Like “oh see he was hurt and traumatized and there’s this crazy girl and DEMON who force him to kill”. Light instigated everything he did in the anime. Obviously, they’re different, but making light the victim/hero in the movie makes him INSTANTLY less interesting. I feel like I’m watching any other dumb Netflix teen movie

no the point of the anime was for you to decide on if lights killings were justified.
@mophead_xu2 жыл бұрын
nah, idk about the anime but in the manga he did have his reason. it was completely self absorbed and self righteous, but his reasoning of "i'll purify the world by killing all the bad guys" was both understandable (even if disagreeable) and imo kinda make sense within the context of his own characterisation: this genius kid who has always done everything right, adored by his peers, and trusted by his parents a lot that he wont do anything bad to the point they barely keep an eye on him. makes sense his ego would be so inflated, especially once he was given the power to take lives pretty much with no consequence. i agree the point was that he wasnt a good person, though. just disagree with him not having any reason to kill people.
@RosesTeaAndASD2 жыл бұрын
I've only seen the Netflix version, but it was BLARINGLY OBVIOUS that a lot of information had been ommited and characters clearly altered to try and make this version suit a different format (I was aware it was an anime and I think it's a book?) The easy give aways: - We first see Girlfriend as a "slightly rebelious cheerleader type" because she's smoking (not like the other girls, but clearly still a team player). Problem: She just suddenly turns into a homicidal maniac upon learning of the Death Note for no reason at all. - There were over 60 rules right? Problem: Less than 10 rules were actually mentioned and there was no attempt to change the script to make the high amount of rules seem less odd in this movie. I was saddened by it because I could tell that this movie clearly had great potential, but the film maker did not understand the source material. Like the Cats Movie screw up basically.

In the anime, Misa had a better introduction and came later in the series, but Mia was like "ayo bitch its me". Misa was also interesting and loved Light much more.
@247webgirl3 жыл бұрын
The source material also explains Misa’s desire to kill; she idolized Kira after he killed the man who got away with murdering her family. This meant that Kira’s idea of justice aligned with her own, so she felt connected to him. Having a Death Note was her opportunity to get Kira to notice her. On the other hand, Mia in this movie is never given a backstory. We know that she has a raging murder boner, wants the power of the Death Note all to herself, and will kill nearly anyone including her boyfriend and his father. But we never know how she ended up that way.

Cranberry Why do you think so . She didn't really appear much . Plus her entire character is "I'm gonna do anything to protect my dear Misa in honour of a friend" . She was just there to move the story along . Her relationship with Misa wasn't interesting either and it was rendered irrelevant by the end of the series because Misa lost all memory she had with Rem.

19:30 in the movie's defense, the rule seems to be that if NEITHER person has the info, then the person will not have the info. But Light is mind controlling the murderer anyway, and LIGHT knows where the book is (because he wrote where it will end up,) so I think this actually isn't a plot hole that that guy would know where it was.
