So, JK Rowling has admitted that she very strongly considered killing off Ron in book 4. My personal theory, and this is a little tinfoil hatty, is that in her original draft, Ron was going to be selected to be the Hogwarts champion, then when Harry's name comes out of the goblet as well, that's why Ron loses his shit at Harry. It's a much stronger motivation, because after all these years, Ron finally has a chance at glory, and Harry has to swoop in and steal the spotlight yet again. Then they slowly make up over the course of the book, and at the climax, it's Harry and Ron who seize the cup together as a symbol of their renewed friendship... Then BAM. Graveyard. Ron is fucking ICED. Voldemort's back. And this catapults us into the darker, more adult section of the series. However, JK probably didn't want to put her readers through that shit, so she took a minor character from book 3 and elevated him to main character status and sacrificed him instead, and that's why Cedric feels so underwritten and out of place, and also why Ron's sudden falling out with Harry feels a little out of left field. Honestly, even as a child, I got over Credric's death really fast. Again, this is a tiny amount of fact combined with a large dose of speculation, but I think it all fits. Edit: for this storyline to be possible, there would have to be no minimum age requirement, or the minimum would have to be 14.
@Beastinvader4 жыл бұрын
This makea sense. I remember in book three or four or five (?) Ron did show some jealousy. In book 1 didn't he see himself in the mirror as a quidditch player? Something like this would have worked a lot more.
@sophieamandaleitontoomey93434 жыл бұрын
That’s too bad if that’s the case. I think it definitely would have raised the stakes of the story a lot more and then Cedric could have, as Marcus suggested, come in and be even more chummy with Harry and help Harry through a potentially cool character arc and we wouldn’t have the cringeworthy Hermione/Ron romance. What a wasted opportunity.

As someone who only saw the movies, even as a kid I didn't feel... anything, when Cedric died. I don't think I felt sad in the slightest. I think that even though Cedric is a mediocre 2D character, his death scene is just fucking tragic. First Cedric is murdered pretty brutally, and when Harry and Cedric get back (with Harry lying on top of Cedric), Cedric is dead and Harry is in a fuck ton of pain, physically and emotionally. We transition from one of the darkest scenes in the series (the graveyard scene) to everyone (including Cedric's dad) clapping and cheering, and the band playing an upbeat triumphant song. The juxtaposition is perfect. And when Hagrid becomes the first to notice something is wrong, we know shit is about to go down. The band quickly stops as they realize someone is hurt, and the adults (Fudge and Dumbledore) quickly realize he is dead. Fudge wants to keep it quiet as a deadly, suspenseful silence permeates the audience as they all try to see what happens. And then Cedric's dad, with no regard to anything, pushes through people to get to his dead son. His screams and cries of anguish are perfect acting. And when he shouts about his son, the audience realizes Cedric is dead; we pan over their reactions as they realize Cedric has been killed. The audience's sorrow then contradicts with the aesthetics of the scene: most of them are wearing colorful clothes and they have Gryffindor and Hufflepuff flags and tattoos for the celebration of the final tournament. Again, amazing visual juxtaposition. And Harry, in one last desperate attempt to save Cedric, tries to cling to his body and not let go. So, even though I didn't care much about Cedric, this scene made me feel terrible for him and for everyone who knew him.

Philosopher's stone - Introduction to the wizarding world, adventurous 3. Goblet Of Fire - Action filled, other schools, thrilling 4. Deathly Hallows 1 - ik some parts are boring like their wilderness quests but rest is so good. 5. Deathly Hallows 2 - Action, revelations, fun to watch 6. Half Blood Prince - The correct amount of grim and jolly , not trying to make it extra sad 7. Order Of the Phoenix - nothing much to say, just ok 8. Prisoner of Azkaban - I truly despise this movie. I know many of the so called film experts and wannabes state this as their fav, for Oscar winning Curon's direction, and brilliant cinematography. Yes I give credit there, but such a setting was not required, at all. It feels so much like the half blood Prince, if Voldemort was gone, there was no present threat of him, still the movie felt so much grim, not a single shot with sunlight, unnecessary cloudy weather all the fuckin time. Even when the dementors where gone. It Destroyed what Chris Columbus had built, A fairytale like land, nostalgic, old and dreamlike, I know a transition was needed but it was too much on the face, it just wasn't required.

I actually really agree with the Cedric part. Cedric should've been Harry's new 'best friend' while he was estranged from Ron. That would've hit harder at the end since it would've shown that this type of thing could easily happen to Ron & Hermione, also showing to Harry that he can't always protect his friends. Goddamn, that would've been cool.
@davidmhh99772 жыл бұрын
Looking at their relationship, this seems really close to being set up, but then it just never really comes together. They're set up as rivals even before Goblet of Fire, since they're on opposing houses and quidditch teams. In the tournament, they're not just competing against each other. Cedric believes Harry cheated to enter the competition, which causes even more conflict. All the factors that made them rivals; however, could have contributed to them being really good friends. They have similar interests and values. They start to burry the hatchet and help each other, but they it never grows beyond each person performing a favor for the other.
@hittingyouoverthehead2 жыл бұрын
I agree that it would have been cool but it would not have worked in a realistic sense. Cedric is this cool, popular jock like kid who is 2 or 3 years older than Harry. Harry is hated by all of Hufflepuff house (aka Cedric's house) and is a joke to everyone else because he's a scrawny little 14 year old who's the fourth contestant in a TRIwizard Tournament. Those two wouldn't be friends. Of course you can make the argument that that hanging out with the guy his entire house hates is what would make Cedric the nice and likable guy whose death would impact us, the audience. But then, the age difference is still an issue. A 16-17 year old just randomly hanging out with a 14 year old in school is kind of weird.
@terryqokov69992 жыл бұрын
@@hittingyouoverthehead I don't think any of that's an issue since if they made this a goal of the story, it would be altered in whatever way to suit it. Like it is currently to suit the plot they went with, you know?

@@terryqokov6999 I assume you've finished your schooling? Can you imagine any situation where a 17 year old kid has just casually hung out with a 14 year old at school? Unless they're siblings or someone like a teacher asks one to tutor the other, have you seen them willingly just hanging out together? Does that seem realistic? If you're trying to say that Cedric can be made into a 14 year old to make this come through, then again, 1. He'd be in the same year as Harry so he wouldn't be so popular. Harry kind of steals the spotlight every time. 2. All students in the school (including the 7th years) fawning over him wouldn't make sense

I hate how, in the early movies especially, the screenwriter gave Hermione all the good lines and moments. Ron got particularly robbed. In POA, I’m pretty sure the scene where Hermione steps in front to protect Harry was Ron’s moment in the book. Not to mention the fact that because of his broken leg, Ron standing up to defend Harry is so much more powerful. In that same scene, she screams at Lupin that she trusted him but her and Lupin barely interacted; it felt like it should’ve been Harry’s line. I just wish the Kloves didn’t cuck Ron so hard just because he’s in love with Emma Watson

11:45 in the books, this part is actually explained. Voldemort never told Lucius that the diary is a horcrux, but he did tell him it can open the Chamber of Secrets. The reason for that is he didn't want his knowledge of the chamber get wasted (he only had the chance to open it once). Lucius sneaked it to Ginny because 1, it was the year when the chamber should be opened, 2, he didn't get any other direction from his master before his demise, so he thought that's the best thing to do. 3, he saw it as a great opportunity to compromise his longtime rival, Arthur Weasley and 4, it's an easy way to get rid of an extremely compromising object (Lucius believed Voldemort is gone forever, so he tried to erase everything in his past that could've proved his allegience to him).

@davidmhh99772 жыл бұрын
I kind of get what you're saying, but this decision from Voldemort still seems really out of character. All the other Horcrux's were treated as sacred, and each was given their own personal shrine to keep them safe, with each location being a place that was sentimental to Voldemort. As such, it seems weird that his first Horcrux, and arguably the most personal object, was just with a follower that Voldemort doesn't really even seem that found of. You could argue Lucius was more favored, but it doesn't make sense that Lucius messed up that badly, but all he got as punishment was a cold shoulder. The diary also just doesn't act like any other Horcrux. The in universe explanation is that Ginny had a more "personal" relationship with this Horcrux than the others, but it still seems like a stretch that this horcrux acts independently, when the others give people bad vibes. Also, if Horcruxes can just come back on their own, why did Voldemort need such a complicated plan to come back in book 4?

True but its still kind of dumb since lucius could have just given it to bill weasly when he started school.
