During a Histo Cup Austria on Masaryk circuit, I have filmed not one, but two (both silver) original Ford GT40s Mark I from 1966. They are both fitted with a mufler, so they aren't the loudest on the track, but the 4.7 litre V8 sound is incredibly awesome. Turn up the volume and listen to this Le Mans winner!

In summer of 1972 I worked at Standard Oil gas station in Birmingham, Michigan. Corner of Maple & Crandbrook Cross streets. Suburb of Detroit. Mr. Kinsler of Kinsler Fuel Injection got gas for his GT40 there. He would not permit me to put the gas in, he did it himself. He had a section of carpet with a round hole in the center that was placed around the fuel cap. So I’ve stood alongside one of these beasts that was driven on the street!!! Obviously I will never forget.

The new Ford GT may not be as historically cool as the originals, but they look better than the mid 2000's Ford GT, and they are definitely more race oriented. The 2000's Ford GT were basically road going tributes to the original. The new Ford GT is technically street legal, but in reality it is a cutting edge, race ready screamer! In building it, Ford is illustrating the same willingness to embrace exotic world class racing technology, just like in 1964 when they began building GT-40 Mk1's. Some are disappointed by Ford's decision to use a 6 cylinder, instead of a 4 valve modular V-8. But it's twin turbo 3.5L "Ecoboost" V-6 puts out 600 horsepower, with less weight. Its WAY faster and better handling than the 2005 GT. How can you complain about a 600hp, 3.5L V-6??

Rusty- I drive 2018 Ford Raptor with tiny, 3.5 liter EcoBoost with two turbochargers. I’ve had several true muscle cars, such as 1970 SS Chevelle. Trust me, the tiny, modern EcoBoost feels like an old big block. What’s really surprising is the amount of torque even before the boost kicks in. I love my Raptor.

2020 and still is my favorite designed race car. Low center of gravity along with wide body. Tiip of front spoiler flows right into the tip of the rear spoiler effortlessly. Perfect design. I love my Porsche 996 Twin Turbo, but the Ford GT- nails it.

As a 14 yo In 1969 my mom would take me to the orthodontist. In the parking lot was his street legal Ford GT-40 that I drooled over every visit. I would read Autoweek and the classified section listed for a long time a pair of GT-40s for sale at $10K each. Amazing.

Those big slicks on the rear kept this car from sliding off the track. I've noticed that most GT-40s when pushed hard slide a lot. Big wide slicks help tremendously. Nice car though.

What you are seeing actually IS an European racing sportscar. The GT40 Mk I, II and III were designed and built in England, only the Mk IV, that raced a total of two times, was American designed and made. Besides, the Mk I had been utterly defeated in 1964 and 1965. It won 1968 and 1969 because, due to a rule change, it raced without competition.
