@The Expats Report Perhaps because Marcel has been seeing a lot of older foreigners marrying Filipinas as old as their daughters. Sad but most of these foreigners come to the Philippines for that sole purpose. They usually find their match because most young girls marry for their poor families. Age won’t matter. 😌

@@anniflores2634 If all your obligations such as debts, rents, mortgage, etc, are done, you’ll find out that you have fewer things to be concerned about. We try to be frugal on things that we can control such as food, electricity, phone bills. We only shop for full groceries every two weeks. We use only electric fans even though we have three aircons, and we only use one cellphone (James’) in the Philippines. I don’t have a cellphone here but I still have the US-based phone because I still work full-time there. I hope this answers your question. 😄👍🌹👍

Just so everyone knows too: If you as a foreigner buys a condo there and spends at least $45,000 (when I did) you are also entitled to a permanent resident card! I got it. I didn’t know about this special law for foreigners until after I bought my condo. Then a woman helped me out to get the resident card. It’s called the ICR-card. Quota visa. I didn’t have to marry a Filipina to get one too! Many of my expat friends didn’t know about this. Including the ones who got married and wished they did know about it before they got married! I think it’s still around. This law. Check it out in case you plan to buy.

Yes, you don't have to marry someone here to get a permanent resident visa. Even with our SRRV most of the categories are designed for single people of retirement age. Thanks for the comment!

I love the joy and contentment on your faces. I grew up in Cebu and been living in Northern California for as long as I have been married to my hubby of 40 years. We are contemplating on retiring in Cebu. I bought a little piece of land up in Tiguib, Cebu so we can all live together with my brothers. They all build their modest homes already, looking forward to building my own Bahay Kubo too. Our home near SF is almost paid off, in three years we will love up in the mountains of Cebu. We will rent out our house here and visit our kids and grandkids Your vlog is so inspiring, thanks for the budget breakdown. I love the simple life, growing our own veggies and fruits. Thank you both🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

We’re really encouraged by you both to retire in the Philippines as well. We are currently living in California and planning to sell our house and use the equity to build a modest home in Iloilo free of mortgage. We are already retired with my military and federal government pensions and both our social security incomes. We are in our early to mid sixties. I pray that we stay healthy to enjoy our retirement in the Philippines. Thank you so much for your highly informative vlogs

Under $1000 50,000 pesos you can do a lot . Most families make like 20,000 or less! Ive been able to do what i did in the states. Biggest difference is to much red tape dealing with paper work.

I must say, you guys are the most refreshing, natural, happy and content looking couple I have ever seen on Philippine related youtube vids. Ive been watching a lot of PI related vids over the past year with being stuck at home due to the virus. Most other vids seem forced or men are suppressing how they really feel, sort of living a lie to impress their viewers . These men that pretend to be content seem to have burnt all their bridges in their homeland, sold up all they had and moved to PI with no way out if things go wrong or they simply cant adapt to the living conditions in Philippines which for most western people that have moved there seems to be a step down compared to the living conditions they had in the western world.

Very low cost of living in the Philippines, in big cities like manila,Cebu and davao city I think 600 USD is enough but in the provinces 400-500 USD a month is enough in a simple way of living. Motorcycle your transportation but if you have 4 wheel i think ABOUT 700-1000 USD. Haircut is only 1-2 dollars. Humburger is only 1-2 dollars but plain burger only .50 cents. Internet about 20 dollars. If you ride in public utility jeep for your transportation minimum .25 cents. For first 7 kilometers.

I lived in Manila for eleven years. Makati. There of course its more expensive than in the provinces. Or in other parts of Manila. The further out you go the cheaper it is. I prefer to be in the big city. Where the “action” is. The weather was the least attractive part of living there. Hot and humid or warm and humid. In the eleven years I was there I never wore a jacket or sweater. Not one day. The rainy season too can be pretty heavy. See flooded streets all the time. The government gets lazy. They don’t want to go in and clear out the drain systems so it floods badly. I would see some people use life rafts to go down the street! I love Hong Kong but it’s expensive. Way way more than Manila.

Fuel goes bad it might effect your engine you better run the gas out of it and get hald tank if not driving that much. Fuel has a shelf life like 6 months before it starts acting funny research it I may be off by a few months. That's why they have fuel stabilizer.

I agree this amount is more realistic. I have 40 plus years of very close ties with the Philippines, spending more than half of my adult life living, working, investing, later retiring, and now snowbirding. I have known of too many western expats who have moved to the Philippines with limited income, and later regretting it when their health declined.

Thanks for sharing. I find your videos helpful. I was on vacation there (balikbayan) in 2022 for almost 6 1/2 months after retiring in San Francisco as a probation officer. I stayed at my condo in Mandaluyong. I spent around $2000 a month including utilities. No rent because my condo is paid off but I didn’t buy a parking spot so I pay 6500 pesos a month to park my car. One big expense was gas for my little Vios. Gas prices increased in 2022. Traffic is bad on EDSA. I’ve been driving around visiting friends and family. Some out of town trips. I dine out a lot and mostly order Food Panda. I often go to S&R to buy US products & groceries. They’re expensive in the Philippines. Expenses in the province is a lot cheaper.
@MyPIDream

Metro Manila is expensive. If you were down here in our area you could get by on almost half that budget if you eat local foods and just treat yourself out to S&R or other US based restaurants from time to time.

@@curiousd6533 All depends upon the lifestyle. Sure you can get by on that amount of money if you are in good health, have no medical issues and live more like a local without the western comforts.
