A pleasure to have opportunity to learn of such as this. Recently watched a couple sailing around the world give #'s of $17000/ year that is certainly being careful but it's working! Probably more to buy the sailboat, than a house.

Great video. I'm astonished at your parent's situation. Is this typical? Do Ukrainians not plan for their financial future? Do they have access to investment products like mutual funds? It seems like another video could be made about the typical life of retired people in Ukraine.
@Olga_Reznikova

Yes, my parent's situation is very typical. IN Ukraine cost of dollar changed from 5 to 28 UAH, and salaries rised as well. But pensions remain the same. That's why now they have such situation. In USSR all people was having normal pension, so there was no need and even no opportunities to have some private savings

I live in West Virgini USA. Everything is so much cheaper than it is here. For me 2bedroom apt Rent 700$, 190$ electricity, 80$ for natural gas, 500$ for groceries, 165$ for 2 phones, 110$ tv and internet, 350$ on used car loan, 200$ insurance for 2 cars, 30$ car tax, 1125$ for 70/30 health insurance with 50$ copays and no vision or dental. $500 for daycare for my youngest, $300 for after school daycare for my oldest until I get off work. 40$ for water and trash. 250$ minimum a month in fuel. And I would hate to think about what I spend on fast food. I work 530am to 530 PM. And my wife works 8am to 5pm. Oh and 50$an month for an alarm system. Our apt and car kept getting broke into. I have been watching some videos of Olga for quite some time. She is a nice lady and her efforts are sincere and videos are informative. I myself traveled Ukraine multiple times and the country in general is good with very welcoming people. As an Indian I would like to mention some specific points about Ukraine. 1. English is not even understood or spoken at almost 90 percent of the country. You will feel extreme hard ship for day to day jobs. Similar to most of the eastern European countries, Ukraine also want to adapt western culture and ties but sadly speaking, the general interest to speak and learn English is not very encouraging. 2. Being a country with less population, the corruption is existing. It's a sad part of the country. If Ukraine want to develop at par with the other developed European nations, it has to do a lot to eradicate corruption and evolve dynamic systems to encourage huge foreign investment. 3. Country infrastructures are old. They need a major overhaul. 4. I will inform my fellow Indians that please remember, you have very little opportunity exist in Ukraine. Apart from a very harsh weather condition, you will have to also struggle with opportunities and good salary. You may get a better opportunity in India with better pay. I still recommend Ukraine to all for tourism as it has abondon natural resources and pollution free environment with one of the cheapest place to live. Enjoy!

Supporting family ( parents, siblings) is a very common practice in my part of the world. I really appreciate Ukrainians doing the same. Private kindergarten is indeed expensive. Monthly food expenses is the same as in my country. You are welcome to try mangoes cause they are grown in my country. Rather world best mangoes are grown but in summers. I can send u a box of mangoes in the coming season ( it will be a gift). For a foreigner it’s not very cheap if we add the schooling and medical costs Thanks

You don't have to travel overseas to live more cheaply. There are plenty of places in the US where housing and other expenses are fairly inexpensive. Of course big cities are expensive so unless living in a city is a must, moving to a small town in a rural area is a easy way to save money if you're retired. Much easier than moving to a foreign country.

Rent = $240 for modern three room apartment Utilities = $40 to $100 depending on season Groceries = $300 (teenagers eat too much!) Mother-in-law's food and utilities = $200 Medical care is very cheap. Major surgery with one week in private room in private hospital was less than $1000 total, with no insurance. University tuition is $75 per month for the top schools in Ukraine.

A lot of sources are recommending Slavic countries for retirees, because the cost of living is very low. Someone who makes a pension of $800 per month, can live like a king there. Plastic surgeons and cardiologists make less than $500 per month, and with their cost of living that's considered a very good income. I used to write to a plastic surgeon (pen pal) from Ukraine, and she told me this. The cost of living is like 1962 in the USA.

Olga, your family living costs is not cheap at all. Rent $400, bills ~$100, food $400, car fuel $200. Whoever is saying the long term cost of living in Kyiv is very low comparatively to US and Western Europe, this is simply not true. To be honest, I was expecting $500 per month for a decent living in Kyiv but obviously, this is not possible.
@Olga_Reznikova
@Olga_Reznikova 5 жыл бұрын
so you want to say you can find something with 400$ per month in big city in USA? If we would go for small cities, yes, rent will be something like 150$ per month. But Kiev is not cheap city at all. 500$ for the family is really small amount. But for 1 person is ok. You need to consider that 1200 USD per month this is for 4 adults and 1 kid.
@kriskantu
@kriskantu 5 жыл бұрын
@@Olga_Reznikova No, I did not mean $400 is enough to rent a place in NYC. I meant that the popular notion that Ukraine/Kyiv is inexpensive for someone from US or Europe is not true. $1200 is enough to live decent in a small town. I did not expect this amount required to live a decent life in Kyiv. Smaller towns and cities in Ukraine is not suitable for someone like me as I do not speak Ukrainian or Russian. I realise its not realistic for me to retire just yet in your country.

Pretty face will accomplish that. But there's more to it. A lot of countries are headed for an economic disaster, perhaps even some sort of EU federalist communism. We don't want to become Olga's parents, living off of $50/month, however lovely people they may be. So we think ahead. Young people in my country already know we won't see much out of pensions we have paid into our joint pension system. There simply isn't enough babies being born and the replacement population either don't work, or work in something other than productive exports, that brings in the money to our economy. In addition to high and ever increasing taxes, there's the national debt, states/IMF will have us paying off, in exchange of our countries becoming unsafe/diverse. In my country that is already €22000/person(which isn't even much on a global scale). That means it's more like x3 that for anyone still in the work force in 20 years time=Young men work more, earn more, so they also pay more in our progressive taxes. I would rather spend that €60,000(realistically more like 100k just to pay off bankers on a loan I didn't sign up for) on a life elsewhere more affordable, than finance the destruction of my own people. Even if it means I have to leave my home country. Lastly, I would argue women do not think like this, at least I have never met one that does. For many of them races don't exist, money creation is something too abstract to think about, and big daddy government should just give them more of it.

I enjoy watching your videos, they are informative and you articulate them very well, with your own personality which brings them to life. So, to my experiences; I’ve never lived in Ukraine but I have visited many times (including Kiev, Odessa, Khmelnitsky, Lvov, Mariupol, Dnepropetrovsk, Kharkov, Simferopol, Yalta and probably some other places which I don’t remember.) In general I have found the people to be warm hearted, kind, polite and welcoming. It was difficult to keep track of my expenses because the exchange rate of Hrivna to Pound/Euro was in the hundreds but for sure, daily expenses were extremely low compared to the UK. I made some long distance journeys by train and the tickets were very cheap for me. It’s difficult to understand the difficulties of the people when you stay in the Hotel Dnipro, or rent a city apartment for 50-60 USD per day, as it was then; and taxis do have a different rate for foreigners (I didn’t mind too much, the “real” fares were embarrassingly small for me.) But I know that it was a huge struggle for most people and probably still is. Like most countries, I think it is especially true if you live outside the city, with lower wages, even if the living expenses are lower. I have seen the small villages where most people keep chickens and grow vegetables, and many of them even have their own family cow on the common land. But I can remember a similar situation in Latvia many years ago, and now it is so much better for people in general, with investment, more jobs, better salaries, improved infrastructure and public services. I am sure that joining the EU had a lot to do with that, but also it is a credit to the people that they rebuilt their country. I see the same potential for Ukraine, maybe even more because of its size and natural resources. But right now the politics from Russia are sadly preventing that. I hope and pray that it will be resolved without bloodshed, and without suppressing the aspirations of Ukraine to satisfy the megalomania from the east. Just remember that Putin will not be around forever, and the hopes and dreams of the people will still be alive long after he has gone.

Another example during summer season here and even into spring depending on were exactly u live in the states GAS for the home is cheaper in many cases. Then what u stated during your summer seasons or warmer seasons as well , And even in the winter here for gas depending on were u live , example Arizona or California etc, during the summer months and into spring as well ..Now if u use the gas in moderation during winter it can cost about what u pay for in the winter there and this is in houses not apartments Even our gas expenses to a certain extent for the month here for driving a car can be cheaper, depending on the car u drive and thats driving to places no farther then 45 minutes away from were u live in moderation{ once or twice a month}, other then just the town you drive in on a daily basis here.. And if your just driving in town in moderation like u say you do OO yea it can be alittle cheaper then what you are paying per month..
