I love your passion for gardening and your wonderfully positive outlook. I always look forward to your uploads (especially the gardening ones!) I live in Bude, Cornwall and here we have a micro climate so I'm able to plant out usually by mid April. I've just started harvesting my mini cucumbers from my greenhouse. This year I'm growing more than ever for the pollinators and I've just built a pergola from old pallets, so will be able to sit under there in the summer surrounded by all my beautiful scented sweet peas. My next project is a mini potting shed made from more old pallets. A place I can escape to read with a cup of tea and sow seeds. Thank you for making your corner of the internet a positive and inspirational space. We need more Catherines in the world! 💖

I grow in Zone 6A, British Columbia Canada. I garden on a second floor balcony. On March 14, I started all my spring veggies, such as Pak Choi, Kale, Radish, Lettuce, Spinach, Carrots, Beets, Swiss Chard. My strawberry plant is starting to get fruit forming. I sowed my Cucumber and Zucchini seeds May 1. We are having a cooler spring than normal this year. I have harvested lots of my Pak Choi, Lettuce, spinach and radishes already. Can't wait to start my Summer Garden. Just need a bit more heat. I moved out my summer herbs a few weeks ago (Rosemary, Thyme & Oregano). These herbs live the kitchen during the winter. Your garden look great! Can't wait to see more.

I am in Michigan. We generally don't start gardening until Mother's Day here which was last Sunday. It's been unusually hot... 90°F here (32°C?) ... so all the flowering trees and shrubs are in full bloom and the bulbs are about done. I just bought a new hydrangea and a rose today. It's planting time!

In Seacoast NH we have had an unusual spring. Cold, lots of rain (though we are still in a bit of a drought in the state) and a lot of wind. This last week we jumped into hot temps for a couple of days, 80’s and 90’s! It certainly hasn’t been a spring that fit any old consistent patterns. No mud season-it just feels weird and has totally messed with my usual seasonal routines 😬

I'm in Zone 9b and 10, in central Florida. I started planting the end of March. By the middle of May, it is already really hot for working in the garden, but we basically can garden year round. The down side to where I live is that so many of the lovely flowers I want to grow cannot survive out harsh summers.
@carmenn56092 жыл бұрын
I live in Florida also NW of Orlando, is this zone 9, I don't plant anything because of the heat also but how nice it would be to plant beautiful flowers. I'm originally from New York, what does the zone #'s mean though?
@annbutler83022 жыл бұрын
@@carmenn5609 the zone numbers are for the lows/temps (plant hardiness) of an area. I am zone 5b her in NW Indiana. So when planting here are only suitable to a -15 to -10. A lot can't go too hot either like Holly mentioned but Zone numbers are mainly for the low temps. Does that make any sense? Also it will tell you if drought tolerant, which can help for hotter areas. All in all the zone is based on the average low of the area and if the plant can live in that cold.
@jenniferkessener11112 жыл бұрын
In Florida you need to think nice tropicals. You can also grow the bright summer annual flowers. Many plants will say what zones they are suitable for. You can google your zone by using you zip code. Many English/Irish flowers need a colder climate than yours. Of course, sunflowers love the heat.

Just had a harvest of Nine Star Broccoli (I ordered seeds from Cork) and French Breakfast radishes.. We are very mild temperatures and are a Zone 8B. We have been cooler and wetter than usual this past April and so far in May but things are growing well. We are lush and green but am looking forward to more sun. Canadian gardener here, and yes we're well under way. In my area we've had an early warm spell so things are going in. Most of what I grow is perennial, and I plant with the pollinators in mind. I keep herbs, native plants and some showy flowers as well. Multiple varieties of Peonies, Lupine, Irises have all started poking up. I intersperse Milkweed to attract Monarch butterflies, that I raise in captivity to protect them and release once they hatch. Keeps me busy!

Also, my potato and green beans plants are growing like crazy, and the tomatoes have fruit. We have several “dainty” varieties of tomatoes this year, one is called Smurf, and it is a purplish cherry tomato. So all summer, we will be eating green beans, zucchini, and tomatoes. I am in zone 5A Wyoming USA. I have been planting out gladiolus corms & hardy plants that can take a bit of cold. But plants that need the warmer weather has to wait until the end of May or early June. Right now, there are a lot of daffodils and tulips blooming. Everything is greening up from the spring rains. But later this week the weather folks are calling for some snow and lows in the high 20s. I start a lot of plants from seed and then fill in with purchased plants. Like you, I try to put in a large order so it will ship for free. I enjoy your gardening videos very much. I have only been watching for a short time, but I am going to try and go back and binge watch some of the past videos.

Here in western NY, I have my complete vegetable garden now planted and the potatoes, garlic, onion have come up. Yesterday I rototilled two more vegetable gardens, one just for sweet corn, the other for what I couldn't fit in the normal garden. Putting in extra gardens due to how much the cost of food and everything has blown up. I started even before it was warm to get in the root crops. We can risk it sometimes in the last of April but even May can get iffy. Last week we had the heat on it was so cold and this week, the windows are all open and it was 80 F several days. We were dying from the heat! It went from Winter to Summer and seemed to skip spring! Luckily, today is a lot cooler so it will be nicer to work in the garden after work.

I am in Zone 9A in the Gulf region of Louisiana. It’s already getting into the 90s here. SO HOT, so early. Makes me worry about hurricane season. 😳.

My small garden is my happy place. It is pretty and so many flowers smell lovely. We have a cooler climate like you. I started gardening in late March and extended several flower beds in April. Now that it's the middle of May, my plants are taking off and growing.

We live on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada and normally we are into Spring weather by now, BUT this year it’s done nothing but rain, then we go into what we call Juneuary when we do normally have rain - anyways what can ya do !!!! So I’ve not done any hanging baskets or planted much yet, fingers crossed we’ll wake up sometime soon and find it’s summertime 🤭. Love your positive videos, you are so talented, going to try and pick up a copy of your book too 👍🏻 🇨🇦

I'm so hoping you plant some berries somewhere. Your bird friend would love you for it plus the bees would be your friends. Both wonderful for pollinating! I accidentally grew 2 huge sunflowers this year and oh man do the birds love them! It seems the seeds blew in on the wind and took hold. They're quite a bit away from my veggie garden which is good. They seem to keep the birds full & happy so they're not pecking at my veggies. Who knew! Love your gardening videos especially after I've been out in mine. Makes me feel like I'm having a cuppa with a kindred spirit.

Hi Catherine, I got the gorgeous PR Package from O Brien's Beautiful packaging and the book is just lovely! Just flicking through it with the cuppa tea! I'm sure the book is going to a real success and I'm looking forward to the chats when we get the chance to set up an interview for my show!

Here in Michigan, USA we usually wait until after Memorial Day to plant flowers & veggies. Our weather is so unpredictable and we've had frost until the end of May. Today I was able to get out in garden and start cleaning up the flower beds. Plan on making some raised beds for vegetables. I just love this time of year when the garden starts bloom with Spring flowers! Thank you for your beautiful videos. I always get inspiration from you. 🙂

Looking after my Tomatoes, pulling off the side shoots. watching the potatoes growing. The mange tout seem to be flying up, I can't wait to be eating them off the vines. Planted a few Snapdragon plants, last year's ones are still growing and flowering again. Lovely colours. I wish I had your energy. I just do a bit every day. (15 minutes) Sitting out in my yard now reading your book. with a cup of tea of course.

Hi! I'm gardening in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan, US. We border Canada and are US zone 4, we are getting to plant nearly a month early this year as we haven't had a frost in a month. Usually June 1st is our planting date. I love your cottage garden and all your videos, have been watching since your early shabby chic days. ❤

The pink shrub is beautiful. I think it might be a daphne.

I thought it might be a weigela. I have them. It has a variegated leaf that shed in the winter and clusters of pink flowers in the spring and early summer.

I’m in North Carolina, zone 7a and our spring is looking fabulous! Mid May is generally when we feel we are home free for no more freezing temps, however, we do have a tendency to start warming up too soon and then here comes Old Man Winter back. Last year we had 2 consecutive weeks each with 3 days of temps in the 20’s. Took so many blooms. 😩 This year however, no freezing temps and our shrubs are loaded up! Woohoo!

Your walk way that you were sweeping up would look great with a concrete stain treatment on it.
