It is not the first time in my 20 years as an expat living in Thailand that I have toyed with a return to the UK. #thailand #expat #livingabroad

Stay here in paradise. The UK has lost its mojo. My mates call it ungreat Britain.

My wife, who is Thai American, and I are about to have our first child together here in Hua Hin. I’m an American. We fully intend to educate our new daughter here in Hua Hin at the international school here. It’s not even a consideration to educate her in the U.S. with its toxic culture and unruly behavior. I’m a lawyer and I consider a good education the best thing you can do for your child. Now my daughter will be half Thai and much easier for her than kids from another country.

I'm never going back to the US or any other Western country. I love it here in Thailand, it's my only home now!

Great points! I feel like you could say the same thing about Australia as well. So much riff raff at schools these days

You are so....lucky to be living in a place that suits you and your family. As for belonging, UK is no longer the blighty of old because it's morphed into a foreign country for us, the indigenous people, and we no longer belong nor welcomed here. I made the mistake of returning to the UK after decades of overseas assignments and it not only affected me but also my family. My children have packed up and left with their families to some overseas destinations and I encourage others looking at this comment to do the same. Go whilst you still can.

I'm begging you Dan, DO NOT return to The UK. You'll hate it. Everything has changed. It is unrecognisable from 20 years ago..... for the worse. If you want to look at alternatives for your children's higher education, then consider Malaysia, Singapore or Hong Kong. I never thought I'd say that !

I've already told him it will be the biggest mistake of his life but it's his choice, he'll just have to find out the hard way if he goes back 👍

I grew up in the far east. Went to an international school.had opportunities and given an open mind Loved it all. Back in uk at 17 I never felt i belong. I yearn to go back to Asia everyday. For all the comments you made. Take it from me NEVER go back to UK. Stay in the place you belong. Where you are now.

Well, I think there are positives in both worlds. I love to live in northern tanzania with my small kids and family there. We are very well integrated in the rural Maasai community. I also have a house and grown-up kids in Norway. It is a very different life there but nice too. Both places with lots of friends and family. I guess it doesn't matter so much where you stay as long as you have family and friends around.

If you came back to the UK to better kids education but were miserable just think the amount of pressure that would put on your kids, try to find happiness for you and your family where ever that may be

''Could I leave Thailand and back live in UK again''....what does that mean?

You know what it means unless you are thick? Just swap back and live around it's not rocket science.

The only reason would be to give your kids some experience of the UK. But it wouldn't be a totally positive experience.

@@davewordsworth1251 I’m going to Thailand 🇹🇭 in December. For a couple of months to see how I get on there? But I have to take care of my mum and pets. So it’s a hard one for me? Family always has to come first 🙏

Interesting to see some comments here about UK being like a foreign country for UK nationals, yet Thailand and the people generally welcome foreigners with open arms. We want to enjoy the benefits of being an expat in Thailand, but God forbid anyone should want to have the same benefits of coming to the UK. With such double standards, maybe the problems in the UK sit more with UK NIMBY nationals rather than those coming to live here?
