Interesting to note there is no 2nd alto on the bandstand. Either he is off stage playing into a mic or they just didn’t have room for him and omitted his parts for this show due to the stage being small.

Absolutly , the first time I see this from Basie, Bobby Platter plays the alto 1 part, Marshall Royal is not replaced. The stage is not too small, that's sure. Royal was the musical director at that time, this is an exceptionnal case. We clearly hear on "Shiny stockings" that the lead is not Royal, no vibrato nor the big sound of that unique alto sax. leader.
