I wish when I was first learning guitar someone told me these 3 things to help my struggle with strumming.
1. Learn the chords really well.
2. Make sure you know the timing of the each chord.
3. Add things to your strum to spice it up.
God bless!
Matt

Working from home during this pandemic has allowed me to get serious about learning guitar finally at 53 years old. I have toyed with trying to learn chords etc in the past and never got very far. Your videos have been the best for me and I have come a long way in just a few weeks. Thanks so much for putting them out there!

Love your energy and enthusiasm. I’m a 66yr old retired engineer pursuing perhaps my last wishes on my bucket list. Actually, I guess I’m finally able to sit still long enough now. I have scoured the internet trying to absorb and learn everything about learning to play the guitar. I’m so glad I stumbled on to your videos. The finger patterns you’re teaching have really made a huge difference for me and this strumming lesson put it all together for me. I’ve become so inspired by the jump in success these techniques have given me, I’ve become obsessed with learning. I’m now practicing two to three times a day or whatever my fingers and hands will allow. I also love when someone is truly emotional performing their music. I believe that teachers like you are the best of all human kind. Personally, I’ve never been more fulfilled than when I taught mathematics earlier in my life. I loved watching the “light turn on” in people’s eye’s. It’s easy to see this man loves music and cares deeply about others learning. This particular video made a “light come on” for me. Hopefully the first of many. Thanks so much! I’m now a big fan!

Sitting here tonight just kinda regurgitating some basics. You taught me at 57 how to play. I sucked taking lessons in person. But you made it simple with your g-c-d-e-minor technique. If I hadn't found you I don't know if I'd still be playing. Matt McCoy is by far the best guitar teacher I know! Thank you brother!

I have been playing guitar for many, many years and have always struggled with strumming. I wished I had this lesson years ago because it was one of the best that I have ever seen to explain it in a clear and concise manner. I, too, used to go to Ultimate Guitar and try to match those stupid down, up, down, up, etc. Thank you for this lesson, Matt!! I so much appreciate your help, channel, and videos. Blessings and Peace, Matt.

I've always had realistic expectations on the guitar. I always just wanted to be able to play the "camp fire" versions of my favorite songs but the chords progressions were tough and I lost interest. That is until I ran across your channel. Just want to say thank you for sparking my interest again in the guitar and helping me blow people's minds at the camp fires. My first song, Georgia FL Holy was a big hit thanks to your lesson. Keep doin what your doin brotha.

Hope that with practice and knowing this chord - 2 beats, this - 4 will help. Hahaha Wish you all successful learning!

Im a little confused on how to add in upstrokes so all songs dont sound the same, like some songs have 4 g how do you add in upstrokes? are you counting up strokes as one of the g? when i throw in up strokes it throws my timing off

Hello. Thanks first of all for the video. I do have this intriguing question as an absolute beginner. You strum the G cord with stings 1, 2, 5 and 6. The C cord with string 1, 2, 4, and 5 (with second and third frets) and lastly the D cord using strings 1, 2 (within the 3rd fret) and string 3 (second fret). From what I watch on other chanels online and learnt, the C cord uses strings 1, 4 and 5 (within frets 1, 2 and 3) and the D cord strings 1, 3 (within frets 2) with string 2 (in the 3rd fret). Sorry I cant attach a photo, but as a more advance guitarist you must definitely understand what I am trying to say. Are those cords C (string 1, 2, 4) and D ( string 1, 2, 3) alternative of C with strings (1, 4, 5) and D (string 1, 2 and 3)? Thanks in advance.
