My sister went through a bi phase with her bestie. Her besties oldest daughter had a therapist who stopped being her therapist when she beheaded herself by lying on the train tracks. My mom had a therapist who had a passion for DID cases and managed to convince my mom who was in a manic state that she had an alter who was a British nanny. I’ve found therapists are either: a:) crazy as fck. b:) so well adjusted and naive that talking to them about your life traumatizes them. c:) are just there for the paycheck. d:) are dumb as bricks and think highlights and a vegan diet would make you stop wanting to off yourself. e:) the one who develops inappropriate feelings. Or f:) the rare and mythical unicorn of therapists: well adjusted, empathetic, smart, well educated, a good person who wants to help you. I’ve only had the f type once as a teenager.

Well, on some level it is to be expected. A surgeon cannot give themselves open heart surgery. Doesn't mean they don't know how to do it. It's just that even though you know how, it's best to let someone else do it. You see that in most career fields. My career is in the arts. I write, design, and paint. It's very hard for me to proofread or critique my own work. A part of me is too close to it. I'm prone to overcritize some things and undercritize other things. Someone else just as skilled and talented as I am can give a well, rounded review. And I can do the same for them. That's not to say that some people aren't in the wrong field. There some mental health workers that just aren't suited for it for a variety of reasons. But I do think expecting them to be able to perfectly balance their lives and issues is a bit unrealistic and unfair.
