As a 70 year old, cis-gender, bisexual male, i love your perspective Courtney. You have helped me. How does one know you are bisexual? No, you do not have to sleep with both sexes to know (altho I did). Just a bit of mindfulness can help. To whom are you attracted? Who occupies your imagination? And no, being bisexual is NOT a half-way measure. It can actually cover all of a person’s experience. Finally, I have learned that bi-erasure IS a thing, even in the queer community. Based on my practice, If I had come to a conclusion about my sexuality at 18, or even at 30, I would have labelled myself as gay. That would have been a BIG mistake. Contrary to those who think bisexuality is a half-measure (“why not come “ all the way out,”), I discovered my true identiti as bisexual when I fell in love with my wife at 49! Things are a lot more fluid than we think.

Sexuality is so complex and ever changing: I started experiencing intimacy with my male friends from the age of four. Most people call it” playing doctor or the like” whatever you want to call it, from the age of 1 my family moved three times. In every neighborhood, the same thing: 80% of the guys fooled around when occasions presented themselves: camping, swim outings, sleep overs and of course when drinking/ pot “ teen “ years. But when I hit puberty, at eleven, I suddenly felt a rush to pursue girls, was even voted “ first to marry” in high school because of my dating history. That all changed one Saturday night in my senior year, when out drinking with all the neighborhood kids I when into a bowling alley bathroom with my best friend and suddenly he kissed me. I’d fooled around but had never been kissed by a guy. It was more than everything you read in novels or see in movies. I felt the floor falling beneath me. That night changed everything because while sexually I was bisexual I KNEW I could only love with a guy. Broke up with my girlfriend: I didn’t want to dishonor the sweetest person by ever implicating her as a cover while I discovered myself. But hey, that’s me. Everyone is different. But I will state unequivocally: at certain ages, most boys will experiment with everyone. I’ve been with the same man thirty years, survived the aids crisis partly because of a gay novel I had to steal from a 5/10 . It’s main character only believed in sleeping with people he loved: “ The Front Runner”! I mention this because in the STATES RIGHT NOW THERE IS A LGBT BOOK BAN FREZY GOING ON IN PUBLIC LIBRARIES. RED STATE “ nut jobs “ that have never read I lgbt book don’t want children “turned”. Like all great coming of age novels: lgbt literature may discuss sex or drugs or other sensitive issues but it’s “95” % of the time the authors intent to teach life lessons! People who ask offensive questions are either not happy with themselves or they have no sexual life at all. The really offensive questions can come from people who have a history of abuse be it sexual or otherwise. They are getting off vicariously through your complete honesty and transparency. While I was watching your video, I was thinking about some scenarios in which I, as a bisexual man, had to face some of those uncomfortable comments and silly questions. I totally understand what you are talking about. When I was still discovering who I was and questioning my sexuality, I came out to one of my friends and she asked me how I knew that I was bi and I tried to explain it to her and asked her if she ever thought about being with a woman and she said “I’m definitely straight” and I asked her how she knew and she said “I just know.” I realize now I don’t have to explain myself and my sexuality to anyone.

Great vid, i want to add to this. They claim we're being "bi for attention" to get more dates or sex, which isn't true. We want to be as affirmed and as accepted as people who aren't bisexual. Just because we like more than one sex or gender doesn't mean all of us are non-monogamous. There are monogamous and non-monogamous people of all sexualties (gay, straight, bisexual, etc). Not all non-monogamy is unethical like cheating. Some of us who are LGBTQ know from birth or an early age who we are, but for some of us it takes more time because we aren't taught to embrace any feelings about our sex, gender, and/or attractions that isn't conforming to society's expectations. We don't have to label ourselves or stick to a label, though society pressures us to. Also, sexuality and gender is fluid so they might change on their own during a person's lifetime. The world accepts gay people a little more than bisexuals or pansexuals because gay people are monosexual (only attracted to one sex or gender).

The truly one thing that gets me upset is when people say bisexuality is a stepping stone to being gay/lesbian, it the main reason why I'm not doing as much in the community as I want. Because I would only hear "I cannot what until you fully come out your be happier and date more as a full fledged lgbt+ member" as if I was half apart or half a person all along. Courtney-Jai what are your future plan in life (long term or short term) not just as a KZbinr but as a man making his way in this crazy world. Right now I have full focus on my short term goals because I want to get a house and I can start early next year and I'm happy to so close. I really liked this video and some of what you said I really identified with. My first experiences in affection and sex were with a male from age 13-18...along the way I realized that I saw males more attractive to me than women, he found the opposite ...then in high school, I found a girl I liked...while still having sex with my male friend who had interest in the sex, but no romance....I have always found the sex is easy to get, but real affection and love is hard to find....the girl gave me both and we got married and had a daughter....but over time, I found that sex with her became more and more difficult, despite my love for her....then I met a man with a girlfriend in the same boat ....at first, we both wanted to stay with the women we wanted, but saw each other as a more compatible sexual counterpart....then he and I fell in love and we both realized that we were both gay and we both ended our relationships with our female partners to be fair to them. He passed in 1992 from AIDS and it was an honor to be there for him in his final months and hours. Since then, it's been hard to find a male who wanted more than sex. Romance and love is more important to me than just the sex with males....which has been frustrating because I've had offers from females where I could get both, but I know in my heart that I couldn't sustain a long term relationship with a woman and sustain a successful sexual life....so I identify as gay....but wonder if I'm becoming more asexual as I've aged. My fantasies now are always about being in love and having a companion, but not necessarily needing a sexual partner. I feel I lost my perfect partner for both in 1992, which I find sad and frustrating. But I would rather be single and happy, than with someone and miserable...or make them miserable not being able to be everything to them both romantically and sexually.

When I switched schools in middle school, someone in my class legit just asked me if I was bi. Like, in what world is it appropriate to just ask that to someone you don’t even know? You forgot one detail about sexual questions. Some people ask them because they either just want to hear a story or try to get you to do sexual things in front of them, so that they could get off to it; Or they want to know if they could join you, if you have a partner for a threesome. Not everyone is interested in those types of things, but it's a common misconception that you forgot to mention. There's nothing wrong with having fetishes, as long as you keep it classy and don't be that creep who goes up to random strangers or acquaintances or friends and makes inappropriate comments or suggestions and you have to respect their wishes when the other people aren't interested or you won't be very popular and you could get into trouble. Same goes with everyone else.

I have this same issue, what is it that makes you feel straight? It could be a strong internalised fear. You'll figure it out eventually I'm figuring myself out as well. Society pushes heteronormativity on us alot. Just take some time for yourself and try not to obsscess over it.
