Doug was an abuser. He hit women! He kicked his former wife so hard thst she almost lost consciousness. He probably poisoned her ; no heart attack there! He punched his dog so hard he knocked him out. He shot a gun in the ceiling to terrorize Ashley. Why would anyone feel their baby would be safe around him????He stalked her, put a gos on her car, she told people way before the marriage was over that he abused her. He hit her in the head, and threatened to attack her thst night by his warrior stance. She had every right to manipulate him to keep her daughter safe! This was a bad guy! Eve is immature, and has people believing her garbage. This man was so abusive he knocked his first wife out. Give me a break… people are calling him a hero and innocent!!!! @@ML-kp2ib Bond was not revoked. Bond/bail is only for a period up till the conclusion of a trial. After the conclusion of the trial you can get post trial bond/bail. After trial the money or property goes back to the person that put put it up. If you skip out, there is a time limit placed on the money or property, and if they are not found within that time, you lose the money or property. Nonetheless, she stood trial, so the money or property they put up for bond/bail automatically goes back to the person that paid it. Nothing was revoked, they were just denied post conviction bond/bail. For understanding on bail and bond. Bail is paid by anyone that you know that can put it up and bond is paid by a bondsmen. You flee from bond and the bondsmen sends bounty hunters to find you. They both work the same, but binds are paid by bond companies or bondsmen. Just like bail they will lose their money if you go on the run. They also kinda own you,, and most people do not realize they have the same rights if they pay your bail. You can cancel at anytime and turn them back in at the jail and get your bail money back. Also not all states allow binds, or bounty hunters.

Fwiw, as an actual DV survivor, I have followed this case closely. I believe that the jury got it right. And I want to say this for anyone in that situation - when DV is truly happening. Thanks in advance for your forbearance in reading this... I owe my life to a cop. I was in the ER getting stitches on top of my head from where my husband had hit me with a ceramic lamp. (I also had bruises of all colors from head to toe. It's as if I saw them for the first time thru the doctor's, nurses' and that cop's eyes.) That officer told me what he'd seen in 15+ years of law enforcement and said that if I didn't leave, then my family would end up identifying my body. As crazy as it seems, somehow, through the pain, alcoholism and three years of denial about the level of violence I faced almost daily, I STILL thought I could change things and stayed. Two months later, my husband shot at me with a .22 rifle: I heard the bullet whiz past my left ear. I left and phoned the number that LEO had given me. But my husband's next wife was not as fortunate. She was found beaten into a vegetative state. She regained consciousness two years later and then died the next year without being able to recognize her own sons. And he was never convicted for her death. His young sons' lives were shattered. Hoping that the jury sends a message to those who think they can manufacture DV as an excuse to *ill people. Fgs, if this is happening to you - leave! And this goes for women and men. There are ways to protect yourself against violence. Lastly, I did find and thank that cop after I got sober and was working in a career I had only dreamed of. No one has to go thru it alone. Take care, friends.

Why are there so many comments claiming "Justice was served"? Justice is not served when a first degree murderer walks away with a manslaughter charge. Doug Benefield apologized for every wrong move he made, while Ashley made many more wrong moves and has no regret, no remorse, takes no responsibility. This makes her a thousand times more dangerous. She deserves life in prison.

@@manda.watching.KZbin Kinda makes me think the jury did not understand that using a gun did not mean she was guilty. Makes me think they thought she defended herself, but because she defended herself with a gun it meant she was guilty. Makes me think they misunderstood the jury instructions. I have a feeing they thought she defended herself, but that because she used a gun, she committed a crime. I predict that if jurors do interviews they will say just that. They will say they believed she was defending herself, but because she had a gun she somehow committed a crime. This case screams overturn on appeal, based on confusing jury instructions. The one guy in this video thought the same as me, that the jury must have wrongly thought that her using a gun to defend herself, must have somehow been a crime. The way the instructions were written it did make it seem like using a gun for defense is a crime even if you lawfully defended yourself.

She probably told him she had no intentions of reconciling and she ran after that to the bedroom. He followed to question her and he was met with a gun.

Remember, she has had 4+ years to process this. Emotion is very different at that point especially after your attorney coaches you and makes you rehearse a million times. I wish they did not do that because it makes it impossible to get a clear read on someone. I personally do believe this was a dysfunctional relationship and at times she was fearful. Maybe not for her life but everyone has a breaking point. Including Doug. Her hands are not clean either. I believe she was being manipulative and using the system in the custody battle and that caused both of them to break. I just feel for both of the families and especially the kids. Nobody is a winner here. Be careful who you procreate with. They might not be a bad person but they might not be right for you and can become very toxic really quick. Unfortunately too many people cannot just be adults and do what is right for their kids and let the animosity go.

Her minimal chances of getting a hung jury were destroyed by herself, when she pretended to cry hysterically with a dry face that never turned red. I agree with you partially. I know attorneys and they couch their clients to do certain things. I actually believe majority of what she said. It is clearly a severely dysfunctional relationship on both ends. Neither of their hands are clean. But many of us unfortunately know what it’s like to have a man double your size screaming at you and coming towards you. Had her attorney not coached her to “show emotion” and she just told the story organically, I believe it would be a different outcome. This happened 4+ years ago so she has had all of that time to process. She’s gone through it verbally hundreds of times to prep for trial. Had she not had all of the time and preparation, it would have been more real. Just my opinion. I feel for both families and especially the children. Unfortunately, nobody wins in these situations.

You know, I’ve found that it’s hard for a woman to manipulate another woman, and it’s actually easier to manipulate a man with tears because it makes them uncomfortable, but a woman will see through it. I wouldn’t want him dating my baby sister. Thank God he cannot hurt or abuse another woman! Btw; I worked for women’s Battered shelters; you know nothing!

Did they say how tall Ashley is? She looks very tall to me and I believe they said that Doug was 5 foot nine, 159 pounds. I don’t know any man who wears a size 30 waist jeans and a T-shirt size small … this was not a big guy. When their therapist testified, I believe it was Dr Quintan, she had said Doug was godlike, overbearing, and a few other words, he put his elbows out like he’s puffed out describing that dog with this big bulky bully. Doug was a very small man .. and I think Ashley was probably as tall as he was she was not a shrinking violet. Dr also said that Ashley said she was scared of him .. he then went on to say during their session “ Ashley was saying disparaging things about Doug”….. If somebody is a victim of DV and afraid of their abuser I don’t think that they would put him down in front by the people. Typically by doing so you’re going to get beat for it afterwards… I don’t think she was afraid of him . According to her story, he chose to hit her for the very first time minutes before they are going on this journey with her mother down the street at the park…. Cars and truck are packed House is empty with the exception of a mattress, laundry basket, and the morning toiletries. Ashley had a gun loaded and ready to go in the laundry basket in her bedroom easily accessible to that three year year-old was running around the house! You would think the guns would be in a lock box and packed . This does not make sense unless she planned on using it and just put one in the laundry basket and one on the shelf in the closet when mom took her their daughter down to the park. Empty house Him Her 2 loaded guns If her story is true, she ran back into her bedroom yet didn’t lock the door behind her? I think we all use a door knob with a lock for our bedrooms, especially when you have children . I believe since Doug was packing the boxes into the truck the garage door is open and the garage door into the house is open so he can go in and out and in and out. It makes sense she would’ve run out through the garage if her story was true .
