As a musician, singing and playing a song are usually the easy parts. The hard part, and where many fail, is capturing the heart and essence of the song. You did it. And, I think Joni would be proud.

This song written by Joni Mitchell and made famous by Judy Collins covering it in 1968 was a huge hit and success for Judy Collins. I usually don't like to listen to most people covering such a famous song (and prefer lesson known songs when people cover them) but you have really done a great, great job with this song. I mean it's been covered by so many people that after awhile you don't want to hear it covered anymore I guess is the problem. But.....I thought, well just go ahead and listen to your cover and I am glad I did. Your voice is very good and so is your guitar accompaniment. A + for you on this song.

When Joni wrote this song as a 21yo girl, they told her she would need to mature into it to encompass it's true meaning.. This song was written for a much older person.. Joni proved the remark to be spot on by performing her latest version post 60+ yo.. The depth she was able to convey from a different point in life blew us all away..

Rows and flows of angel hair And ice cream castles in the air And feather canyons everywhere I've looked at clouds that way But now they only block the sun They rain and snow on everyone So many things I would have done But clouds got in my way I've looked at clouds from both sides now From up and down and still somehow It's cloud's illusions I recall I really don't know clouds at all Moons and Junes and ferries wheels The dizzy dancing way you feel As every fairy tale comes real I've looked at love that way But now it's just another show You leave 'em laughing when you go And if you care, don't let them know Don't give yourself away I've looked at love from both sides now From give and take and still somehow It's love's illusions I recall I really don't know love at all Tears and fears and feeling proud, To say "I love you" right out loud Dreams and schemes and circus crowds I've looked at life that way But now old friends they're acting strange They shake their heads, they say I've changed Well something's lost, but something's gained In living every day. I've looked at life from both sides now From win and lose and still somehow It's life's illusions I recall I really don't know life at all I've looked at life from both sides now From up and down, and still somehow It's life's illusions I recall I really don't know life at all

I just came across this rendition from You Tube suggested videos. I've listened to many versions of it over the years, Joni's hundreds of times. This VONCKEN version, the singing and playing are for sure beautiful, however the lyric changes are distracting in a way. When he sang ferries wheels instead of Ferris wheels, I thought it was very strange. Even stranger is when someone posts the wrong lyrics, so I googled the lyrics and read along as he sang. I just think when a song is written so beautifully the correct words are very important.
@cpinney5 жыл бұрын
Oh give him a break! Americans know what Ferris wheels are because we have tons of them. He is not an American is he? Do they even have them where he lives? Honest mistake.

Thank you for the nice feeling I get from listening. The song is right, so many illusions in this world, we are either away or near completenes, either away or near love, the only thing that is real is our inner feeling connected to that which is divine, joy, calm, complete, peace. All the drama is unnecessary.

It grabs and captures the attention of the audience even more. I can't stop listening to it. Phenomenal! This song is so special to me.
