Fun fact: this episode was partly conceived as a tribute to Batman: The Animated Series. Pierrot is a bit of an amalgamation of a bunch of villains from that show, and the noir-esque style, especially in the fist scene, is directly influenced by that show.
@Shad0wmoses6 жыл бұрын
hey just wondering but do you think that alchemist from FMA that got murdered by Scar was a reference to this? He looks just like Mad Pierrot and also the setting that scar fights him is almost like the one spike fights him in (some city alley with a canal/waterway running near by) *also yea this episode totally felt like a stand alone batman TAS episode*
@apoorvanand15175 жыл бұрын
Joker by behaviour and personality and Penguin by costume and weaponry. He invited Spike to an amusement park like in the Killing Joke. He was also on a Penguin ride. Apart from those two of who he is a combination, Pierrot is also based on a lesser known Batman villain called Tally Man.

This is my favorite episode, mostly because of that final moment. This seemingly invincible killing machine that can deflect bullets and fly reduced to a crying child. His screams pulled at my heart, I honestly nearly cried as I heard him cry for his mother. The fact that this show made me care for a character that was trying to kill the main character to that degree in a single episode (arguably the final ten minutes of the episode) Is a testament to this shows ability to bring meaning to something in very few words and basically no time.

I gotta agree, one of my favorite episodes of this entire series. The menace Mad Pierrot had really fed into the moment where we finally see him get hurt and revert to a child screaming for his mom. The music and sound design of this episode was also amazing. Especially in that final scene.

Calling an episode of this show filler is really missing the point of the whole show. It's not a traditional narrative storytelling experience where we're just going from point A to point B. This show is all about the characters, the world they're in, and how they interact and deal with it and each other. A lot of the episodes are very deliberate nods to different genres or are based around a particular concept just because it's an interesting, fun concept. It's all about the journey and not just reaching some destination.
@jmon24ify6 жыл бұрын
this is one of my favorite episodes. the music, imagery and art style are in perfect harmony in my opinion. for every episode cowboy bebop does this and does it well to help the viewer capture the atmosphere instinctually while allowing that viewer to be completely captured in the moment. but out of all the episodes, this had the least amount of dialogue because the visuals and music tells everything you need to know. this episode is also horrific as Tongu slightly resembles the clown which a lot of people are afraid of especially with the creepy laugh. yes like other animes and throughout this series, Cowboy Bebop pays a lot of homage to real life events, movies, and shows. In this episode there is "Pierrot Le Fou" which is a 1965 french movie which means "the sad clown" in the movie but in this episode means "Clown's Requiem". The antagonist, Tongpu, is highly influenced by the Penguin from the Batman series which becomes more prevalent in scene with the penguins. The amusement park references Disney and many of it's characters you see as giant robot animals. Tongpu being experimented on has been seen things like Jason Bourne. All the antagonist in the 1980s had a cat like Ernst Stavro Blofeld, Dr Evil and Dr Claw so Tongpu sees the cat as his main nemesis which can bring his downfall.

Apart from the vicious episodes, this was my favourite episode from the entire show. So much to love from it. Simplistic adrenaline rush from start to finish. Reminded me of Anton Chigurh in No Country for old men. How it was said that “you shouldn’t be alive if you saw him”. Undoubtedly the most menacing character in the entire show. Pure evil as he himself was subjected to pure evil. With a mind going backwards. On top of that, the ‘on the run’ sample from pink floyd’s dark side of the moon. This already has two aspects from my favourite thriller & my favourite album. They really nail on this episode with everything. Especially the cat. How the cat is really a reference to Spike. One eye is of a different colour to the other. Direct reference to spike. Also the story spike tells jet in the final episode. About how he is like the cat who dies a million times only to die forever after crying a million times. This is really the peak of the show. Horror, pity, adrenaline. Cowboy Bebop itself is a masterpiece.

I like how with very few words the show is able to convey that the ISSP regularly assassinates people. Most anime & shows would've gone through pages of dialogue but Bebop does it mostly with imagery. That's a masterful use of film, which is a _visual_ medium. I love Ghost in the Shell but those writers would've done it with a clunky 10 minute discussion with everyone acting like a bunch of professors at a conference. Here we go, the creepy episode, and perfect timing for it too PierrOT not Pierre, Pierrot are stock characters made for comedic effect in theater, Pierrot le Fou also translates to Pierrot the Mad Speak Like a Child creeping up on you? Except the fact that Faye and Spike's respective pasts are recurring themes and thus an overarching plot Probably because Toonami aired its fair share of anime Gonna be fucking creepy is what it is French do have vampires Pierrot was based slightly off of Cobblepot, and Joker Chris have you heard of a grenade launcher? Or considered the fact that modern technology would reach this point given that this show has hyperspeed and terraforming well usually if there's an O in a name next to two consonants, you say the O As much as Faye acts like a dick, she was very quick to try and protect Spike from harm Chris you haven't taken your girl to Space Land? You gotta climb that mountain boy WOOOO! Oh God Spike! You Killed Goofy and Donald's chimera child! Yeah Pierrot is chilling, and he's really the reverse of another villain Spike faced; a seemingly indestructible adult with a mind like a child, to come full circle after killing the seemingly indestructible child with the mind of an adult And a discomforting end to Pierrot, crushed under a stampede of animatronics crying for his mother Well ISSP are the universal policing agency, also you forget that Syndicates are a recurring theme, as well as the 3 old guys, missing out on bounties and smoking policies There is no filler in Bebop, it served to push Spike to his limits, and to point out that Spike is somewhat yearning for a fight he won't come back from, a self-destructive tendency Spike didn't see them get killed, he heard them sure, but he's made a life out of the sound of gunfire
