I wonder is the scale issues (giant Toads, etc) come from the fact that they just sized up the tracks by a factor of 1.25 or something to account for the increased number of players as opposed to actually reworking the width of the track.
@lilwartank1
@lilwartank1 Жыл бұрын
Actually, don't quote me but I believe the scale has always been weird in the game. Watching videos of other tracks the spectator models look exactly the same, I think the only reason it's so noticable here is because of how close they are to the actual racer but even in some of the original courses you can kinda tell the scale is off I haven't actually confirmed though but it's something I've taken note of watching Mario Kart 8 videos as of late

Giant NPCs are all over the game, including previous ones, is made so the player can actually notice them, is not a DLC problem. The only reason people are noticing them is because they are looking for even the most miniscule details to nitpick about. You've never would've heard this from the Yoshis in Yoshi Valley or the Shy Guys in Shy Guy Falls.

Something that always bugged me was the escalators in Coconut mall for the booster course. I feel like now it’s too obvious which way your gonna go and takes away the challenge in the original. In the original there was no arrows so you had to look ahead to see the direction but now they make it very obvious as you which way your supposed to go

You haven’t even looked at the more up to date version of that Coconut Mall, the cars now move but they now do donuts, I had a feeling Nintendo were trying to get the cars to move side to side, but maybe they couldn’t get them to work, so they needed more development time to make the cars move in a different way, which is why they were parked in the first place.

TL;DR good video, but a lot of the critique felt very bad faith and nitpicky/complaining for the sake of it rather than actual discussion points and constructive criticism and brought the otherwise pretty good video down at points imo Video was good but I feel like the critique was a little bit off/not made in good faith. Of course it always comes down to a matter of opinion but still The city tracks I agree with being/looking a bit weird and having odd places to go giving em an off feeling, but I don't think they're by any means confusing (and the Paris Promenade critique I feel was less nitpicky and more complaining about something being different because it's different) and give a really nice sense of freshness. Plus I think they're a great way to incorporate all the different versions of the tracks into one The complaint about the red arrows and making them sectional also seems very odd. Like the red arrows are there to indicate it's the same track but you're going a different direction rather than just putting in a random barrier suddenly. It's a bit weird yeah but they only show up on possible other routes (usually the route on past laps so you don't instinctively go that way) so I don't mind too much. Also saying to make them sectional? The tracks already kind of are. Yes the cities are big but each of the layouts from the original track usually crossover each other so I'm not entirely sure what that suggestion would mean outside of re-creating the track completely which brings me back to my point, it's complaining and saying laziness just for the sake of complaining (again I'm not sure what the sectional suggestion would do different outside of completely re-creating the track, and the theme of city tracks seems to be dynamically changing laps so I'm not sure how else you can incorporate the different versions without a pretty confusing layout/laps unless you only pick and choose parts of the original version but going away from the original point I digress) There's legit criticisms and a lot of the stuff could have been done better no doubt. But this seems to be overly critical and deifying the tracks from the base game (Ninja Hideaway, Choco Mountain, Coconut Mall with the revision, Shroom Ridge) all fit in right with the rest imo and all feel fun to play Speaking of the critiques about those tracks specifically were extremely nitpicky. You actually said nothing negative of Shroom Ridge and then said it sucked after praising it's additions and said it's just a copy of other tracks in the game (which again is confusing? The tracks are remakes and Mario Kart reuses similar themes sometimes. Heck you can see it in the base game's tracks and it feels weird to use that as a point against the pass) Also one thing that wasn't said when mentioning the tracks were from tour. Yes some are (there's actually a few that aren't or weren't in tour when released), but that doesn't mean they're automatically bad. Tour is a game that many people haven't or don't like playing. But MK8D is and the tracks are changed up a bit and also brought to a completely different engine which drastically changes how they're played. Them being in tour shouldn't be a signifier of them being bad (or a "if you wanna play it just play it in tour" because again that's an extremely different game and the tracks do not play the same) it's just more of a fact. Now to consider it lazy of not ymmv but critiquing it for just being in tour is again weird (Also Choco Mountain is my fave of wave 1 I think it's a ton better than N64 and Tour tbh) I honestly enjoyed the video and want to see more but I will say that the constant nitpicks and criticism didn't seem constructive or productive and gave the video the vibe of "Nintendo lazy, change bad, i don't like" at points rather than bring up actual points of discussion (honestly surprised you didn't talk about the graphics) it wasn't like that at all points but imo it dragged the video down. There's no need to praise Nintendo and say that we all need to be grateful because there is legitimate problems and criticism to be had. But a lot of this didn't feel like that and felt more forcing the opinion that "Nintendo is bad and anyone who likes them is a sheep who only praises the company and if you like them you're dumb" instead if that makes sense Anyways again I'm excited to see the wave 2 and forward videos despite all that. I think the discussions and thoughts on all this are very interesting and I enjoyed it nonetheless

@lilwartank1 Hi, I liked your comment and I wanted to know what you think about wave 2 of the DLC
@lilwartank1
@lilwartank1 Жыл бұрын
@@noab2265 lol thank you I appreciate it Wave 2 I think is generally an improvement overall. I think the track selection was really good and I generally like the direction things went I also really love the big shortcuts people have found possible and I think show these tracks have some really cool things (I'm cautiously optimistic of Nintendo not patching them out) and just the benefits of the booster pass/bringing these tracks into MK8D. Yeah there's still a few graphical issues and weird decisions but overall they're a lot of fun (sky high sundae is a weird one though) For thoughts on individual tracks: New York Minute I think is super fun although I do think there's quite a few spots (the central park section in particular) that could be better and despite looking drivable are actually out of bounds seeming arbitrarily. But overall I think the track is pretty cool and like it more than Tokyo Blur for a smaller 3 lap dynamically changing track Mario circuit 3 I think gets a lot of undeserved hate for being small and simple. It is but that's not necessarily a bad thing, I think it's kinda unique in how chaotic and hectic it can get and is one of the more skill based tracks with multiple cuts you can make but I do understand some people being disappointed it's not as flashy as other tracks or remakes Calamari desert I really really enjoy. The ramp is a bit out of nowhere randomly but I forgive it cuz it makes that track feel a lot more interesting. Tbh my biggest complaint is that the 3 "laps" end so fast and it feels more like a shorter sectional track but on the same road the whole way. Still I really enjoy it and feel it makes the track more interesting Waluigi pinball probably should be anti-grav but even though it's not it's still a good track and looks like the best version of it we've gotten and that's including the road remake. Other than that it's waluigi pinball (which tbh I don't understand the hype but it not a bad track) Sydney is a great track and I think so far the best 3 different lap city track. Yeah things look a bit odd in some places and whilst I understand that, i think the track itself and it's gameplay more than make up for the shortcomings (the 2D sprites are weird although they are also in base game but usually facing you and not that close. It's a really weird decision tbh) that track shows how interesting a dynamic lap changing track can be and how fun/what alterations they can do to make a really fun track overall Snowland is hands down my favorite, the snowman cut is amazing and really interesting since it's at the start of the track. The visuals whilst being a bit more cartoony I think fit in perfectly with the base game and the track just feels and play cozily and fun. One of my favorites in the dlc if not the whole game Mushroom Gorge is also great and an awesome track that looks extremely good in game (again the cartoony style I think works for this track but I can understand some people finding it off especially compared to base game tracks) I also think it plays extremely well and the cut feels very rewarding to pull off and not too difficult to try and attempt if you roughly know how to do it. It just feels fun Sky High Sundae I'll be honest I don't really like. The camera is weird, the anti-grav is fun but feels weird, and a lot of the assets are again weird and have functions that other things do (the grind rails and columns being boosts are so weird) that said I think it can be fun, but honestly find it kinda boring overall once the new track novelty wears off (that said I don't think it works much better in tour either from the few clips I've seen). Overall the track is meh at best to me, but I do find it fun just one of the lower end tracks in the game (don't think it's close to the worst, but just find it uninteresting) I will say the big cut you can do at the end to cut off the last corner is very fun however So yeah overall, wave 2 I think has a lot higher highs and has more interesting tracks and things to them tbh. There's still some critique to be had of course, but I think it's better than wave 1 and I'm also cautiously optimistic of wave 3 as well and really want to see it TL;DR Wave 2 I feel still has some problems but is in an overall better state and has some of the most fun tracks in the game and the possible shortcuts are extremely fun to attempt and pull off (and not too difficult either which I feel makes them even more fun)and I'm looking forward to the next wave to see if the improving trend continues

@@lilwartank1 what do you think of wave 3?
@lilwartank1
@lilwartank1 Жыл бұрын
@@THEBIGBOII I really really like wave 3 and think it has some of the best tracks in the pass so far London Loop is fun, but it can feel long, I do enjoy the chain chomps coming out lap 3 though quite a lot. And personally I don't find it as confusing as many others do but I just think it has a few slow parts still fun Boo Lake is nice, and has great visuals but in terms of gameplay is just meh to me. It's over before you know it and it feels like the track doesn't really have any time to breathe. Basically the opposite problem of London Loop except I also find it a bit more repetitive. It's still a fine track and I'm glad it has visual flair but overall it's just eh. (Also the anti-gravity is cool but also I never really thought the booster course passes not having it was an issue, and for this track in particular I don't think it really adds much) Rock Rock/Alpine Pass I actually find to play really fun and enjoy it a lot. The gliding always feels interesting to me and the races feel less chaotic but very intense especially at the beginning/end of the laps. I also enjoy the pipes blowing the air out and using em to stay in the air longer. Not my favorite or anything but I just find it fun Maple Treeway is always good and fun and this seems like a definitive version of the track honestly. It doesn't have the bridge and isn't as easy to fall off, but the original had it's fair amount of jankiness and 7 never captured the feeling it had. I enjoy it here more than I have beforehand Berlin Byways is my favorite track of the wave. People say it's slow and boring but I disagree, weaving in and out of traffic is really fun, I enjoy the twists and turns (admittedly takes a little getting used to but isn't hard too) and I really like crossing over with other racers towards the end. The glider and small cuts I enjoy a log too. And music is super good. I think it has a good mix of speed, chaos, skill and more Peach gardens is just relaxing and close contender for second favorite. It's such a simple and clean track and the decision to go backwards just makes it feel like it has the little oomph it needed Merry Mountain is alright, it's pretty and I enjoy the Christmas theme but once you get out of the little town it's just kind of slow and unexciting. Still not bad just not the best, probably one of the best themes though Rainbow Road I'm sad doesn't have the cool shortcuts but don't think it's that much of a con they're gone (and realistically couldn't be there due to the games using different engines) I think it's a really fun sectional track that has a lot going for it, i do wish it was two laps, but I'm really happy with how it is. And the visual style is amazing. Honestly biggest complaint is that it's more of a treat to look at, and feels good to play, but it doesn't really hold my interest outside of it. Happy to play it but good to play other things too Basically wave 3 has probably the best tracks so far with some of the best gameplay and visuals, although it probably doesn't reach the same highs as wave 2 or the same lows as wave 1 basically it's just a well done overall package and I'm excited for future waves

This and Silokhawk's video are the only good coverage of these DLC tracks I've seen. I've honestly started to become very disappointed with Nintendo this generation. They've gotten so successful that, similar to Sony, they don't really need to try anymore in order to generate massive profits. They can do as many anti-consumer scams as they want and they'll still be fine.
