My favorite Cherry Poppin' Daddies interview was sometime in 1997 when I was a teen, and the song "Zoot Suit Riot" absolutely captured the zeitgeist-- at their peak a reporter asked a seemingly innocuous question: "So, how did you come up with the name of the band?" And the front man answered candidly, something to the effect of: they came from a scene wherein jazz musicians, unknown to each other, were often thrown together at the last minute, and then were on the spot bequeathed a randomized stage name = Cherry Poppin' Daddies. This was followed by an admission ~"We never thought we'd stay together for very long, until one day Zoot Suit Riot went through the roof... and now we're stuck with the name." And here we are, 26 years later and the group puts out another enjoyable jazzy tune. Nice one!
