I use to make dolls similar to this, but nowhere as beautiful as these. Unfortunately, my hands have become shaky so I can't do the detailed work anymore. It was a privilege to see this.

The unfairness of Age takes more from us each year. Especially Artisans like yourself. But I bet your dolls brought Lasting Joy to many people. And still does. Which is hardly fair, I know, ...but perhaps just enough.

I also have 2 dolls one with a costume that is of a time long ago. The other is just beautiful in her glass case , dressed in fine silk. The skilled artisans have wonderful talent . Thank you .from Massachusetts USA.
Cheers from New Orleans! I make dolls out of discarded textiles, beads and jewelry. Though my work is nowhere near as fine as this Japanese Hina artisan, I love watching someone at work, doing what I love - making dolls!!! Exquisite..

When I was a teenager my brother brought home two friends from Japan, they spent New Year's Eve with my family, one of them, Masako told us about the artwork of the Hina dolls, my mother tongue is spanish and they both spoke perfect Spanish and English, while we sat at the table at the New Year's Eve dinner we learned a lot. I will never I will never forget that conversation and how amazed I was by the work and how she explained the procedure of making the faces and clothes for the Hina dolls. Now I am a history teacher with 33 years old, and in my free time I like to research and read about the cultural legacy of Japan, and the Hina dolls is what interests me the most; the history, the legacy and what it represents for Japanese society, the art, skill and precision of creating them is astounding, So beautiful material. Thank you so much for this fantastic video!

These dolls were made in the middle of the Edo period (1603-1867) and were dressed in the costumes of "Yusoku" (officials involved in ceremonies, events, government posts, etc.) of the Imperial Court and court nobles. The costumes are small in size but as accurate as those of actual adults, and everything from the costume style to the hairstyle is a faithful reproduction of the court nobility's ceremonial style. Dolls with Souls In Japan, it has been said since ancient times that dolls have souls. It is believed that the wishes and thoughts of the doll's owner are transferred to the doll, and various wishes have been placed on the doll and handled. It is said to be the culmination of traditional craftsmanship, as each craftsman uses the same quality techniques and materials as those used for actual human beings. Why don't you display in your room a masterpiece of "Japanese beauty" a condensed version of Kyoto's traditional crafts and their techniques?
