"A good cycle has to be engaging to watch and to never be boring. A well thought cycle sounds like a masterfully played violin"
The turning stage of the manufacturing of a crankshaft on the Nakamura WT-300, realised by collaboration of Denis Suvorov and Marco Fiorido, Product Manager for Nakamura.

Well that sounds very well indeed! Is the tool at 0:25 just a mechanical stop to force the crankshaft in position? Or does it act like a probe and the machine adjust the C axis position from the program? Thank you in advance, Stefano
@Ds3DeniS3Ds
@Ds3DeniS3Ds 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Nakamura has a feature called Navigator, so as you said it basically acts like a probe, but with physical contact. You measure the torque of the motors, in this case the C-axis, so when you make contact you record the C-axis position as you pointed out. Same concept for Z-orientation!

@freshmas
@freshmas 4 жыл бұрын
Brad Davis lathes like this are not as bad as you think at first, not to diminish the work involved or the cool process. I’ve never ran a Nakamura, but on a Mazak you’d just program two 4-axis lathes and add wait codes so one turret doesn’t move past whatever point until the other turret has caught up. If you put two wait codes in a row, it guarantees only one turret operates at a time. When you’re proving out a new program, you have a switch to make it so you can start and stop the turrets individually.
@Ed-zh5cg
@Ed-zh5cg 4 жыл бұрын
Looks like the work offset was set by the probe in Z and the rotation in Z at the beginning of the program. The tools I'm sure where set by a tool setter. All programmed so operators not machinists can run it.

Lots of different machines. Each machines are processing just one step of the machining cycle. The steps are not in the exact same order too. So, one crankshaft is made every minutes but it takes nearly 30 minutes for a crankshaft to be made.
@ScoredPiston
@ScoredPiston 3 жыл бұрын
Based on the fact it’s a cast crank I wouldn’t think this is for a car. It’s a 2 or 3 cylinder by the look of the journals. Maybe industrial equipment or small diesel crankshaft. So that’s why the tolerances are probably less and the machining is faster.
