Hi Rob, I saw the post yesterday and I'm just happy that again from the spill your standing upright bar some battle wounds. I know it makes you question yourself about do I or don't I ride again but I hope you sit back, breath and realise it's actually a part of your dna to ride the bike just as taking your next breath is. What I'm trying to say it's what makes you. I hope the SD can be saved or at least replaced with another SD (they are awesome and tbh I now own one due to some your posts)that you can make yours. Your gear saved you admirably well so it's testament that it works in the real world. Keep the faith brother, hope the positively you recieve helps with your choices. All the best in the meantime, Paul.

Firstly glad you in one piece and you're still with us. That's the main thing. Gear and bikes can always be replaced but we can't so while you look at the annoying side of this remember your here and your family has you. You can't by time mate and your time isn't up so soldier on my man let them keep the SDR and if you decide to carry on then start again. You'll alway have that on your mind if you fixed it and rode it again. Time will heal your thoughts over this and you'll be back on. Take care Robbie 👍

I had an off so I understand your position fully Rob but we learn, overcome and carry on at times like this. @@shaney765 Haha, Mate you made me smile. One of the things thats gone through my head is if my 1290 is written off then I buy it back and do a rebuid. Most if not all the damage so far is bolt on cosmetic stuff, as long as they don't find something sinister underneath. Or as already been said I move onto something completely different. 🤷♀ I do love that bike though lol.

@@Robbiemoto glad Ive been able to pop a little positive on this mate and make you smile. I to have a SDR so I know what you are feeling however new doors open and new opportunities unviel themselves. I think even if you fix the bike which is easily done you will always have this situation in the back of your mind. Onwards and upwards mate. Time for something new. One thing I looked at was the MT10. Closely compared to the SDR so there are bikes out there that you won't be disappointed with if you change. Plus I'm not keen on the 1390 lol

I’d consider the 1390 but not at the price they are. When I was originally looking at the 1290 back in 2020 it was in competition with the ZH2 which has now come to mind along with the Tuono V4 factory. Never really cared for the Yams to be honest. 1st world problems eh lol.

Did you say this was your first time going down? That’s pretty lucky if that’s true. I also ride dirt bike so pretty normal to go down. I’m 63 and have a partial tear in my shoulder so haven’t been on my dirt bikes but still ok to ride the street bikes(21 1290r & 890r Duke). I too recently went down on the 890, hit a bit of loose black asphalt gravel in a tree shaded corner. Perfect storm. Just cruising at the time. Went to turn in mildly and bam I was down just like that no warning. Not even on the brakes. Broke both my tibia and tibia. Currently healing. Anyway this is not the first time going down on the street. But it is the first time I don’t know why it happened and I have video of it my buddy was behind me filming. But I just wanted to say it’s not abnormal to go down. I believe everyone eventually will go down. And if you’re dressed for the crash and it looks like you were and don’t hit anything solid most of us will be ok. If you love two wheels like I do you’re gonna need to get back on the horse. If you don’t you’ve been beaten. And that’s ok. Riding bikes is risky. I personally have extra life insurance just incase. The funny thing is every time I’ve crashed my wife and friends think I’m going to give up riding. Of course the friends that say that are none riders. Lol. Personally I except the challenge to continue riding. My favorite quote is “Live to ride, ride to live”.

Thanks. I hope you heal quick. That really sucks with the breaks. It’s the 2nd time I’ve been down in less than 6 months. I had a small slide on my 690. I hit a wet drain cover on a shaded left hand bend. Never saw it when the front wheel let go. Apart from a bruised hip I was ok. Thanks for the comment and take it easy.

If you ride long enough eventually everybody's going to crash. Hopefully you'll be well and it will take a while before you lose the PTSD but you'll be fine. Maybe consider replacing it with something a little bit smaller because nobody needs the power of the 1190 puts out. My 890 Duke R is a hoot. There a good chance that your steering stem will never be the same. Any frame damage and she's totaled.

Just keep your riding gear as new and protective as you can, treat everyone on the road like they are out to get you. Fit GB Racing engine case protectors too If you feel it’s your riding that’s the issue, get some 1 to 1 training.
@Robbiemoto6 ай бұрын
Great advice. I don’t feel it’s my riding. I’ve ridden with others that have complimented it at times. I really don’t know. Maybe just sheer bad luck. Confidence has took a battering. Ironically enough I was looking at those engine covers a few weeks back as I was looking for axle sliders for my 690 and they came up. They would have came out better than the engine bars as the bolts bent and damaged the plastics anyway.
@bryansuperduke1290r6 ай бұрын
@@Robbiemoto One of my mates took me out in 1983 and he was killed, I was back out on a bike that afternoon as soon as I was released from hospital. Don’t give it up, just get protected and trained to help avoid it happening. Got GB Racing engine case protectors and Evotech crash protection on the Superduke and T7. It’s easy to not be seen on a bike, assume nobody knows your there, and even after riding from 16 I will still adapt the way I ride after any near misses so I’m not in that position again.

Totally agree with you and I’m sorry about your pal. I’ve experienced something similar several years ago. Unfortunately with all the bruising around my pelvis there’s no way I can straddle a bike at the mo even if I wanted too. My front and back doors have been well and truly slammed 🤣

@Robbiemoto6 ай бұрын
@bryansuperduke1290r That coccyx protector would have been perfect as I am suffering that end. All my kit had the D30 armour fitted. In my jeans and jacket. Only downside was my jeans and jacket didn’t zip together so I’ve got a bit of road rash on my upper hip. I do prefer the urban looking bike gear but after this I have given a full separate back protector and maybe going back to a one or two piece leathers some serious thought.
