We love a spiritual granny scolding a sword. I dunno how rule of cool it was but I think my favorite moment in any game I've played in so far so when my character broke away from the party after being the only one to pass the save against a sleep ability from an unknown enemy. Because he's kind of a one track mind "hunt it down until it dies" sort. And because he went hunting after whatever put his allies to sleep he ended up in a really silly chase scene where he bullied this creature until it got away. The creature turned out to be the final boss of that chapter. He wasn't there in the final battle because he was doing something else but it was later revealed that because of him going after the creature earlier the rest of the party got to fight a boss that already had 1/3rd of its health taken out and my character was given special bonuses to chasing down enemies that were trying to flee. Affectively making him a chaser monster. I like it a lot because even though he wasn't there at the final battle with The Monster of that chapter it still felt like he contributed. I felt bad at the time because he had just hecked off to do something else that *was* important but still felt like I was abandoning the party as one of the biggest damage dealers. But I thought it was really funny after the fact when I learned he had solo terrorized the final boss so badly it made the fight easier for everyone else later.

Something like the first story happened at a table i played in once. The game didn't went far after the friend joined and we started another game and all was fine. Years later, the guy that joined the group (playing with us for years by that time) told me the GM invited him because they were hating our play style (very methodical and trying to do everything in an optimal and not risky way) and asked him to try to make us be "more active" and "engaged with the story instead of optimizing the formation of our characters inside the tavern". I thought it was a shame they didn't talked to us about it, cause everyone was enjoying it and we thought they were too.

Try to never let a single person ruin a game for you. Unless it's the DM (without whom there isn't a game unfortunately) there's a good chance everyone else is as fed up with their nonsense as you. Talk to the rest of ths group and tell your DM either that one person goes or you all do! Worst case scenario try your hand at DMing. It seems intimidating at first but once you have run a few prewritten adventures or a campaign you will find it's not too hard and can be really rewarding.

Just gonna say, I've tried the first suggestion you made after the first story, and even when I tried to post in the subreddit about it, I got so much misunderstood flak for it and I was accused of "rallying against the DM". But I wasn't. I threw out feelers to the other players, and I found out some of them had got similar pushback to me. Clueless rogue creeps out my players. Before I start, this was in person and I was oblivious to circumstance from my low passive perception and rogue's steath/timing. All of my players are from work/the factory including the rouge. 1st red flag is when she brought in her demon slayer katana, but we all knew the anime and thought her full cosplay was neat, but didn't fit her character. For she looked like and described a... Winged tiefling? She said she made a drow thief that, over time used abilities that no thief can use. Annoyed at what was an "experienced player" It took a lot of explaining what can't be done and what a drow and tiefling is. She didn't even have her finished character sheet, but now we get into the real horror I missed behind my DM screen and while I was in bathroom. The list agaist the the targeted Barbarian goes as follows. 1: Stealing his dice, phone & even his pocket knife, as a joke? 2: Using said knife to cut a smiley face into the note paper... On my table that had no cover. 3: Unwanted flirting and contact, mind you in front of his soon to be wife. 4: And lastly holding the katana that she been flailing all over the place to his neck, when he as Barbarian threatened to kill her character if she didn't stop. She was just as edgy in-game as well, trying to say she was a chaotic evil assassin with multi personalities. We all said no random killing, as our party had just got in good with the king and had worked really hard to get their money and be known as heroes. After the game my players called me and told me all of the worst stuff I missed that she did to the barbarian. Shocked I told everyone to block and that she will not be back. I simply told her that's she not invited, and promptly blocked her myself. Feeling horrible I caught or heard nothing. With my next session coming a day after I write this, I pray she gets the hint for the 1st time and listens. As one DM to another. Get to know who you're inviting better and especially go over thier character and make sure theyre okay with making changes in order to fit into the already existing party. I urge players to please say something to your DM if any of the players make you uncomfortable. Discreetly if needed/safer.

Todd: apologizing instead of owning up tells me he's already planning the next thing he'll do to cheat. In my opinion, if the OP refuses to kick Todd then they should have the monsters cheat every time Todd does, only their cheating should only target Todd. However they should do so in such an obvious way that everyone at the table understands that this is punishment and not a shotgun pointed at the whole party. "As you fire that +2 bow (that i don't remember you having) you hit and take down one of the warriors, but on their turn 3 goblin archers pop out of knotholes and all fire at you specifically."

Story 1 - I'd quietly talk with the rest of the party first, and get their take. If in agreement, approach the DM AS A GROUP, make it very clear that you are all unhappy, WHY you are unhappy, and tell the DM to fix his mess NOW. If, at the next session, there is no real improvement, then walk - do not wait for the session to end, just go. Story 2 - You've tried to be diplomatic. If he will not improve, then I honestly question the level of his friendship. From now on, Todd needs to be publicly called out on his actions, every single time. Killing the game is just avoiding the issue - what happens if Todd wants to join another game of yours? The only other alternatives are to boot him out, or to just keep ignoring this cr#p until the entire game implodes, and it will eventually. Last story - Good calls by Player and DM. Unsure if the rules as written would have allowed this, but it was a clever idea at least worth a try. I congratulate the DM for rolling with this development as well as he did.

Story 2: Sounds like Todd likes Magical armor that gives him advantages, let him use them No no, hear me out Each time he does, roll a D6 Evens: Minor Deity offense The effect of the advantage is reversed (example: damage is reflected to attacker? No Todd takes the damage of the reflection on top of the damage he took. Armor absorbs spell? Nope, spells do double damage) Odds: Major Deity offense Based on the advantage choose what deity would take the most offense to Todd having the advantage. Todd is struck down by the deity, revival magic cannot bring him back. Repeat until Todd gets the hint, if he complains, point out his cheating and remind him of rule 0

Regarding the final story, the rule of cool is fine provided that the players agree in advance that rule of cool based decisions don't count as prededents for future rulings. Otherwise the DM has to accept that they may be setting up something that could bite them in the ass later on. Personally I'd have simply ruled that a spell effect is not a creature, so the conditions for triggering the ability were not met. But I'm no fun, I guess.

Not a problem normaly in OP's group has alot of anxiety sufferers (somsthing i understand as i am on the spectrum and played with a guy in our group that suffered an anxiety attack while learning to play Age of Sigmar but seems to be in his element in D&D.) Table Top RPGs are a great way to deal with these hickups as you can put a barrier between you and the rest of the players with a little toy soldier before you. Doubly so with a computer screen. However one has to learn when to speak up and say this is ruining the fun, and the other has to be able to take such critisism. They don't have to be harsh but its a two way street. OP needs to say something to the DM, and then the DM needs gentle corecttion to his Leeroy Jenkins friend. 2nd: yep, this is problematic. If he wanted he could have asked if he could do the alternative get X gold to by that amount of gear. However , these seems to be a problem player that seems to want to be a Kirito. 3rd: wow, a party of murder hoboes (sans Barbarian...and the DM says they are fighting mind controled children and they want to seduce and or murder children? I know more of these horror stories involve a creepy guy making the gals uncomfortable, but lets face it i find when its the chick being the creeper i am more disturbed because they know how they fet treated. 4th.
