Crazy Taxi being positioned as a AAA franchise is wild. As much as I'm excited to see what that looks like, I can't help but feel a $40 arcade style AA reboot would have made tons more sense.

AAA in Sega standards is game for 10M $, so it will be AA game. I highly doubt it Sega give Crazy Taxi bigger budget than Yakuza 7/8 (20-30M $ budget), or Crazy Taxi will be a live service game (and this is high probability for that because dev team is PSO2 NG team). Shenmue from 1998 with 70M $ is still Sega most expensive game, and 70M $ is now AA+ budget.

If there’s no Multiplayer, then you can’t have players show off their expensive cosmetics to players who haven’t spent money yet, making them envious and more likely to spend money.

Because millions of people have proven that if you get them hooked into a multiplayer game they will keep spending money on skins, trinkets, and other nonsense. So every developer wants to try and create a game that hooks people into the multiplayer mode.

It actually makes extremely sense to translate the original arcade experience to online multiplayer. The point of crazy taxi was to be at the top of the leaderbosrd in your local arcade store. Since arcades are basically dead, online is the next most similar thing.

Couldn’t you have it be offline play that submits your score to an online leaderboard tho? And have like, daily challenges, friends list, etc. to get smaller pools of scores for that close competition arcade feel online can be cool too but they should at least have this sort of offline avaliable as a mode

@@extremepayne Sure. Open to cheaters. The point of the arcade was the live competition with other players, in real time. Wanna play an offline mode? THE ORIGINAL IS STILL ON STEAM. BUY THAT.

plus you can make it like a real city with a day and night cycle for the NPCs and you don't have to limit the player to being a taxi, they could play a cop that pulls over speeding taxis, a firetruck and so on... basically GTA online but without the guns, which would have it's appeal.

Friendly reminder for those in defense of always online and multiplayer focus racing games. While yes, it may not have the same levels of licensing like say Forza Horizon and rhe Crew, the chance that the game will be delisted or servers getting shutdown is still high, hence rendering the game unplayable. And no guarantee for people to make a server emulator in a timely manner.

Normally I'm not a fan of multiplayer but I can see how it might work for this type of Game. The original is crazy and zipping all over the place. I imagine Multi player just means you might zip past and crash into other players, so perhaps adding to the Madness?

I don't mind the existence of the MMO for people who enjoy playing that way but, if there's no offline single-player mode in the new Crazy Taxi game, I won't be buying it even though I've been a Crazy Taxi fan since the beginning. I have no faith in Sega to makes those game right. They proved multiple time that they dont understand the artistery behind those games (that god aweful remake of Panzer Dragoon 🤮). If they add to that the "modern approche for a modern audience", it is a recepe for disaster.
