Here I made comparison video for tracking performance of large object without using marker and spray. Note that the object, office chair is low in feature, mostly flat surface.

Thank you so much for producing this excellent comparison video. I was so keen on the Raptor, but after watching this video, I think you’ve changed my mind. It’s such a shame the raptor doesn’t have the same NIR scanning as the otter. I’m conflicted now! Please keep producing these videos, I’ll definitely watch everyone you create. Thanks again. 🇦🇺🤜🏼🤛🏼😎🍀☮️

Damn, youve swung me towards to Otter over these two videos, the NIR scan you did with that was brilliant, the Raptor looks similar to my ferret which was a bit of a pain to use quickly as it loses tracking. I can live without the tiny details for now and ill upgrade to the Raptor for laser scanning in a few months. In hindsight, I wish they made the Raptor just a laser scanner and lowered the cost by removing the NIR. It seems that the Otter is the ideal Einstar competitor without being as PC demanding and the Raptor is an excellent laser scanner although let down by its NIR. Thanks for the content!

no, 2 points causes this. the tracking technology is same as otter, 1. raptor NIR is not good as otter under some lighting circumstances, it’s more sensitive than otter. You need to adjust exposure manually or avoid bright lighting. 2. the FOV of raptor is smaller, so when scan large flat object, you’ll need marker or texture, otherwise the geometry based visual tracking (the tracking mode you selected) will make the scanner confused due to insufficient geometries in a smaller FOV.

@@jessiemmm understood, unless physically constrainted by the design given that the NIR is a separate technology to the laser scanning it doesnt make sense to me that the FOV is smaller than the otter, given the physical side difference id have expected it to be larger and comparable to the Einstar

@@MA-qx6rn Einstar is NIR only, while raptor is blue laser and nir, they use same lenses, thus the fov is smaller than otter

I took screen shots of when you were using the Otter and the Raptor, when the two scanners were the same distance away from the object, it looks like the Raptor NIR field of view is half of the Otters field of view. If true… that’s almost a dealbreaker for me. If the laser scan mode could do feature mode that would be great. I would still love to see you use markers on the chair and see if it can scan the chair in both laser and NIR. Thanks for making these videos. I’ve definitely watched them a few times. 🇦🇺🤜🏼🤛🏼😎🍀☮️

I'm still curios, whz raptor do not have posibility of stativ mount. I'm looking forward to next videos. As I'm interest in scan of relatively small objects, raptor is still more interesting to me. I do not have problem to use calc sprays, so reflection problems are not the issue and usually I also have stuff with complicated geometry so tracking also cannot be trouble.

Because you are supposed to "wiggle" it with your hands for the blue laser. See the other videos of him.

Hello! I’m trying to choose one of these devices, but I can’t understand which one is better and what’s the difference, like the Raptor is more interesting, but in this video it didn’t work at all, maybe the tags were needed. So far, which one is your favorite and why?

For small object, I will choose Raptor, it's easier to scan/track, successful rate is high in one try. Object that requires accuracy like metal part, I'll also use Raptor. For larger object and things that I can't put markers on I'll use Otter. Otter small/medium mode has smaller field of detection.

For large objects, if want to use laser mode, can just simply put markers all over the body? What is minimum markers need to be seen by raptor?

I think about 7 cm apart. But you can try wider than this, if it couldn't track you can add more later and re-scan.

In general 3d scanners wants at least 4 markers visible all the time to work.

Super helpful to see that they're still as crappy as always.
