As you can see, for a moment there nothing mattered except the music. From what these guys have been through, their trials and tribulations, none of that mattered. For a few seconds in time things seemed to float, and then they brought us back to reality. The musicianship of Cream will never be topped, never.

I always liked that song and never knew that it was Clapton playing on it! Yeah, you may be right I tend not to like much bluesy indulgent solos if they sound just kind of derivative and samey to me. And that is probably just my own issue and knowledge experience with blues not any indictment of anyone's playing. I tend to get more into punk and rock and alternative but man this live stuff by cream, it kind of amazes me how great some of it is, even if it is not in my wheelhouse of listening or hasn't been anyway. @@johnsmith100

Jack Bruce's voice is still amazing, fantastic combination with Eric which of course is one of the greatest singers of blues ever. Ginger on drums as usual impeccable. I'm a big fan of the Gibson bass. One of the greatest 3 piece bands ever.
@sunking200110 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen many Gibson basses played by anyone. Jacks bass resembles Paul's Hofner...being shaped like a violin. Sounds real good, though.
@wolfkarel10 жыл бұрын
sunking2001 Actually Paul's Hofner bass was a "copy" of this one that Jack is playing. This bass guitar is a Gibson EB-0 (solid body) and it predates the Hofner (hollow body) "violin" by almost a decade. The EB-0 is a far superior instrument than the Hofner.
@sunking200110 жыл бұрын
wolfkarel I appreciate your info, but, I hardly would consider Paul's Hofner to be far inferior. Afterall, there are Fenders, Rickenbackers, and various other very fine basses in the musical world. It's all a matter of personal taste.

+GraffitiPhysical That's what I was going to say.

I've seen a lot of concerts in my 70 years of living but I don't think I've ever seen a band as tight as these guys were for this gig. They're laughing and joking and having a great time. It's like the 40 years apart didn't mean anything, they just picked up where they left off. Ginger especially is an interesting character. I spoke with him at a gig they did in Hollywood at the Whiskey in 1967. There are some good videos of him later in life on YT and "Beware Mr. Baker." He studied drums in Ethiopia for a few years and when he pounded his drums it reminded me of the African jungle. My favorite is "Deserted Cities of the Heart."

thanks Lisa--yes, you might know he came off of the London Jazz Circuit with Jack before Cream happened, which was solely an experiment with hooking up with Eric's blues knowledge. he had for one thing, used double bass in a way that no one had until then, and his polyrhythms no one had seen either in a pop rock band. they weren't like any band since the 80s, being it was experimental with the roots of rock.

Call it what you will. But out of any other guitar player I've watched, Eric always knew how to play to anything. He's jammed with a lot of musicians in his lifetime, a lot of them dead and gone. He is also very good at stealing the spotlight as well as sharing it. Plus the way he executes his guitar solos is brilliant, its art at its best, it goes up, down, sideways and is always changing. Its very different from that fast stuff that everyone seems to be doing ever since EVH. No disrespect :)
