Nice setup. I have that center plant stand (2 of them). They were purchased from Aldi. If only I used herbs that would be great. Thanks for sharing.

Super nice. Your videos are very helpful. I live in Milwaukee so we have a similar climate so I know I can copy some of the things you do. 😊 Thanks!

Looks great! It’s helpful to see your irrigation setup. I struggle so much with watering my smaller containers because it feels like the drip emitters don’t cover enough of the container, but if I add more then it just seems like the water flows right through the pot before it has a change to get absorbed. I might try using the emitters that you show here.
@ChicagoGardener

I like these bc you can adjust how much water comes out of each emitter.

Hi, I am a new subsciber, and I'm so glad I came across your channel! I came across one of your older videos the other day, and with living up north, I know you could answer my questions a lot better than the other KZbinrs from Cali, Texas, and North Carolina. I live in Springfield, Massachusetts where it gets really cold but not as cold as Chicago. I plant in those plastic containers from Walmart with handles that people use to put a buch of soda cans with ice for outings that I have sitting on two huge wire cable spools that people make into tables. I have a bad back and two arthritic knees so it's easier for me to plant things up high so I can attend to them. I have a question for you since you plant on your rooftop! What do you do with your fruits like strawberries and herb plants or even flowers like cannas, calla lillies and hibiscus that are in smaller containers or that are in shallower plastic pots during the winter months because the can't take the cold and will freeze and die if you leave then out in the cold in the containers or pots?

I do a few different things. I’ve been able to leave out my raspberries, blueberries, and rhubarb in their pots over winter and have them come back fine. For smaller plants or less cold tolerant, I move them down to the garage over winter. For plants that need extra protection but are too heavy to move to the garage, I set up a small plastic greenhouse and keep them inside over winter. I have a video showing that if you search “greenhouse” on my channel it should come up!

I absolutely love thyme puns. I actually do markets where I sell thyme in a bottle. (time) It's a big hit. 😁 Ya know the Jim Croce song....

Looks great! I have never heard of strawberry mint! Does actually smell of strawberries? Where do you purchase your seedlings?I've got a dedicated spot on my tiny balcony for herbs and I also harvest constantly during the summer. I love it!
@ChicagoGardener

It does have a strawberry scent! I got that from stark bros online. Most of the other fruit mints I ordered from Mountain Valley Growers.

Hi Bethany, have you ever left your perennial herbs outside with the soil and roots in them after you’ve harvested them to dry? Then you wouldn’t have to continue to buy more thyme, mint, etc. Also, I’m in zone 6b and I put my rosemary in my garage and it has made it through 2 winters. Just curious.

I’m not sure if it’s Erin from Impatient Gardener you were confusing the name with but I’m going to pretend it was bc that would be a huge compliment! Each year I go in thinking I’ll bring them into the garage to overwinter but by the time I move my hydrangeas and dahlias in I don’t feel like carrying anything else 😂 Maybe I’ll try leaving some outside this year and see what happens. Worst case they die and I buy more anyway!
