There was a Northen Lights stained model at Experience PRS 2018, it was absolutely the most beautiful guitar I have ever seen in 60+ years of loving great guitars. Had the budget been there I would have bought it on the spot just for the beauty of its existence, and I can barely play jingle bells. PRS guys, you are so freakin' good at what you create there thank you for the love and dedication.

I love the 'Glow' guitars - the Dragons Breath on quilted maple is just stunning - I would love a Hollowbody 2 with the Dragons breath colours but in a more centralised glow....

Great video. I have to say staining my own piece of scrap wood at PRS EXP '18 was the coolest I got to do that day. I love the creativity that goes into the color process.

I know this isn't a Custom Color, but I was seriously considering getting a PRS and looking at S2 Custom guitars on-line and I came across a Blue Crab Blue. Blue crabs, for those of you reading this comment aren't really very blue on their main shells, they're this natural mix of a unique greenish blueish with some brown and grey. I'm a Marylander, living in Kentucky at the time looking at this on a computer thinking no, it can't be this good. So I took advantage of the site's 30 day return policy. Like I said, you nailed it. You used the maple flame of the cap and the cross grain to reproduce the shades of brown and grey under the blueish greenish. Its a blue crab color. That helped with my wife who saw the color and sees the blue crab in it (so I got to keep it). The color got my attention. The guitar kept it. That S2 Custom 24 is one of my go-to guitars because its just a really good reliable guitar with the tones I need for most any situation, and it is always in tune with itself, very stable. Blue Crab Blue is discontinued now. Too bad, that is my favorite color that you've ever done.

I have a One-Off I call The Rainbow because it starts as blue on the bottom and goes through several color shifts until it just starts to hit yellow at the horns. For several reasons, I'm a fan of the older guitars but I love what PRS is doing with finishes these days, especially the faded tops.

Without giving TOO much away, as I'm trying to build my own dream guitar in this style with quilted maple, is the northern lights just the pink, sanded, then blue, is it no sand back, or is it pink, then purple, then blue?

Northern Lights MIGHT be the most beautiful guitar finish of all time. In my time, I’ve seen bursts, metallics, AAAA this and that...beautiful things. But the Northern Lights flamed maple finish was the first finish I ever saw that stopped me in my tracks and made me say “I need one of those” based solely on the color. I’m not sure what you could produce that would be *better* than that. Maybe there are some equals out there...but I’ve never seen anything better. Especially when the neck and headstock are involved. It’s just completely transcendent...

what type of water based stains do you use? I want to stain my furniture in the same technic but i find only oil or alcohol based stains, or water based which is not translucent, they are muddy.

They can back up their bragging though. Most companies can't. If you've ever owned one, or played one for an hour or so, you would see what all the hype is about. I have 2 PRS Guitars, and I Love Them. My Mark Tremonti Signature is my favorite. My first PRS was a CE-24, and it is amazing too, worth every penny of the 2k. I will put the Signature Mark Tremonti, up against Any Les Paul, Standard or Custom, and it will blow it's doors off. Gibsons are the overhyped guitars, and their quality control has turned into pathetic shit. When somebody puts down a few grand on a guitar, they expect it to be Perfect, And It Should Be. With PRS, whether you pay $900, or 9k, when you receive the guitar, it is Always Perfect. Contrary to what most people believe, you don't have to be rich to buy a nice PRS Guitar. I'm the furthest thing from being rich. I payed for both of mine with payment plans, and they are worth every penny. They sound good, playing them, even when they're not plugged in. That is the sign of a good guitar!

Wouldn't reproducing the colours in something sent in just be a matter of having it up on a reference monitor? One of those batshit expensive studio calibrated panels blah blah? Sure, it still obviously includes whatever alterations you get in lens/screen/eye on the user side, but it'd surely eliminate as many variables as possible.

Paul has to work hard marketing these guitars because although they have the BEST build quality, the tone is still not as good as the two major guitar makers.

I generally dislike blue guitars, but I thought that one was really nice.
