The song that plays at the end is “Hjerteknuser” by Kaizers Orchestra, a Norwegian rock band. Literally “Heartbreaker”, it’s about the thoughts and feelings one has after a loved one leaves, in the song it’s pretty clearly a romantic partner but it can be interpreted as any loved ones passing or leaving. So for those of us who know the song and can understand it… god that final beat of Weasel’s backstory hits different.

Regarding the continuity confusion I think they are really overthinking it. Gunn has said recently that "if an event that happened in a DCEU continuity project is explicitly referenced (like Project Starfish, the events of Peacemaker and Rick Flag's death) then those events also happened in the DCU timeline" and I think that is the most straightforward and easy to understand way to approach the canon. Assume this is a completely new timeline, universe and continuity with no exceptions, nothing from the DCEU is canon or important at all, but if something from one of the prior projects, which is obviously only going to be Suicide Squad 2 and Peacemaker, are mentioned, then you know that it is also relevant for this new franchise.

James Gunn is so great at having emotion and character development, and yet still balancing it with humor and action. It just makes me more excited for Superman now. You're at fault. Modern fans can't seem to suspend disbelief and separate actors from roles. The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker happened, but the JL members who show up at the end are now from the DCU, not the DCEU. Each time the Bond franchise changed actors it was a new continuity in a new time bracket A lot of the same events happened to those different Bonds, we just didn't see every version. That's why it's okay that some of the characters were played by the same actor with different Bonds. They were playing that character in different continuities.

Eric, I don’t think that if we were in Amanda’s shoes we would tell the difference. Like imagine she knew the “Cavill” symbol and suddenly her universe gets rebooted/reset and when that happened the symbol changed. Would she be able to tell that it changed for a fact ?. From what James Gunn said, there are three simple conclusions: - "The Suicide Squad" is not canon, but if something from this movie is mentioned it becomes canon, but it may not have happened in the same way as in the movie - "Blue Beetle" is not canon, but Xolo Maridueña will continue to play the character and it can be assumed that, like in the case of "The Suicide Squad", certain characters or events may be pulled into canon if they are mentioned - "Peacemaker" is canon except for the Justice League cameo

May be wrong, but the future vision and the way they have things set up make me believe the start of the Princess' rampage is the death of Flagg trying to save her. Her being so attached to him could be justification enough for her lashing out at those that killed him which in this case would be the USA thru Waller. That may be too easy and maybe misreading this, but that seems to be the path they are on. Weasel frustrated me as the cops never once showed concern for the girl and were shooting with her in the path of their gunfire. Great tragic storytelling as per usual from Gunn.

So far, they've specifically referenced the prior existence of Task Force X, a Corto Maltese mission on which Weasel survived and Rick Flagg Jr. died, Waller's daughter ratting her out, and subsequently Task Force X getting shut down.

According to James Gunn, Peacemaker is cannon up until the Justice League scene, everything else is not cannon until they bring it into the new DCU

James Gunn said some backstories to characters are the same but this is definitely a new universe. Imagine this being Earth 2 (Flash Arrowverse) Everything in Peacemaker and Suicide Squad can be parallel and canon to these characters but something as small as JL arriving or Bloodsport sending Supes to hospital never happened. So assume backstories for previous characters that re-appear are the same until proven otherwise. Also based on what you thought Waller could have simply assumed it’s a new logo considering it’s the future. My head-canon is still that we left the original timeline in The Flash. We are now entering the new prime timeline. When we see Aquaman again he will already be King and a father so the backstory still stands but might be a completely different actor or hate whisky. When we see Flash again he already possibly has time travel and experienced his version of flashpoint. Harley and Joker could be back together or broken up following Suicide Squad. My favorite possibility would be Black Mask and Victor returning, Stephen as Arrow, or Phoenix as Joker in a future film 😅

This show literally references The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker directly all over its plot. The Weasel is thee Weasel from Project Starfish in The Suicide Squad. Rick Flag Sr lost his son in the same movie. The creation of the Creature Commandos is because of the events of Peacemaker when Waller was outed. Both Waller and Economos are the same actors, same characters. Y’all keep calling the rest “baggage” but it’s just been James Gunn’s world building.

The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker are canon outside of the JL appearance at the end of Peacemaker s1 which i've heard James Gunn mention they will address in s2. outside of that this world is supposed to already exist with heroes so Amanda Waller would be seeing David's Superman

I really get where Eric's coming from but I also really get where James Gunn is coming from. He already made two projects before being told that DC was starting fresh and he would be spearheading it. By this point I'm sure Gunn already had a good idea where his corner of DC was going to go, but the truth of it is that he couldn't just remake the first season of Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad to fit them in. Maybe we'll get some weird "DCU cut" or something of those projects one day, but I completely understand wanting to just continue your plans as if he had created the DCU before The Suicide Squad rather than having to change them in order to shoehorn a reason as to why some characters and events are different or the same.

I’m on James Gunn’s side as well. If I was told I was going to be in charge of spearheading a new cinematic universe after just making 2 really good projects that are very largely disconnected from the previous universe they were intended for (save for one 30 second scene that can largely be ignored) I’d just keep them in as well. Give the universe I’m now making a little more ground to work from

Exactly! Plus Gunn has said that the changes between universes will be addressed in Peacemaker Season 2, like it’ll be something acknowledged, we just don’t know how yet… for all we know, it could be explained that Peacemaker just hallucinated a fake Justice League after he was severely injured 😂

35:39 - Confirmed as still cannon are James Gunn’s DC projects and everything DC going forward. (The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker season 1 and the Upcoming Season 2, this show, the new Superman film … etc.). However, Gunn has also said this isn’t Marvel. Don’t worry about cannon and just enjoy the projects as they come. Matt Reeves’ The Batman is still a separate universe, so … just enjoy what’s good and fun and skip bad projects, I guess. 🤷‍♂️ 😊
