Use what makes you happy on the water. No one else paid for you equipment. I like every type of video you put out, I find all of them to be educational. Just yesterday I was looking a year back in your videos for seasonal stuff and this is the only channel I do that with. Most guys out there are just pushing product not education.

I wish you wouldn't act like you have to apologize for using ffs. It's fun,productive and it's part of fishing now. I enjoyed watching you chase them around. That sonar looks so clear, great job.

FFS for the average fisherman is what it is, but in the pro scene it's a joke. It's no different than steroids in sports.

Loved the fish searching portion. You FFS setup is very impressive. I have a Humminird setup and it can never match what you see there. FFS just was a pandora's box and fishing will never be the same again. Even though I have substandard Humminbird FFS I hate it in every single way

When I was fishing in Texas and California creek channels were always the place o start as there were always fish sonewhherec near by. I fished with a guide at Toledo Bend back in the late 80s and he was a Furuno pro and had one of their first color graphs vs paper. He sold me his old unit and what an eye opener

I would suggest leaving your reel bail open so the lure is free to drop straight down. Close the bail when the lure gets to your target depth.
@brucerudd692 ай бұрын
Hey Johnny, do you think input voltage to the ActiveTarget box can affect image quality? I have the fist Gen AT in use with an HDS Live 9 and it never looks as good as yours and I can’t see my bait at those distances. I know some of that may be due to it being a first Gen unit but the voltage on that unit always reads in the 10v range. I know the battery is good, freshly charged and all that and cranks the motor fine. My guess is voltage drop from the battery to the bow through small gauge wire. I’m using what the boat (2019 Trtion 20Trx) came rigged with. I’m considering running heavy gauge wire to the from of the boat directly from the battery and then using a relay to energize it so I can still turn it off and on with the switch on the console. What do you think.

I have 2 hds gen3, even though not supported by lowrance my 3in1 transducer work fine. Setup new to me and keep seeing my below 11 volt alarm on screen. The image quality degraded and the units ran hot. At home took the data overlay and put volts on screen to see no more than 11.1 volts which is under listed spec. This will cause additional amps pull to get power for transducer as power = volts x amps. My boat 19ft and I found a dc wire gauge chart that states length of wire for voltage drop must be round trip, so mine aprox 40 feet. Turns out need to move to 10 awg wires, so searched for 2 conductor shielded 10 awg and it's on the way. As a cross check put my ac adapter on my extension cord and powered the unit like I do inside, screen overlay showed 12.1 volts...unit good, boat power bad. ** Update - removed the existing 14 awg and ran the 10awg 2 conductor shielded straight to battery via a disconnect switch and the bow graph screen's data overlay now reads 12.2 volts. Voltage drop problem solved. Will update after next trip to the lake on image findings.
@fishncoach86992 ай бұрын
In my experience you need to get it to where it stays above 12 volts at all times. When your voltage starts to drop I have always seen those units degrade in image quality and ability to see your bait. A dedicated battery is ideal but ran off of a cranking battery with good wiring has been plenty sufficient
@JohnShearАй бұрын
The data overlay is influenced by internal power drain so it does not reflect the actual voltage coming into the unit. There is no advantage in using more than 12v with respect to image quality since internally the voltage is stepped down to what internal circuits use.
@brucerudd69Ай бұрын
@@JohnShear correct, and I knew this to be the case. But, I ran a dedicated 10awg wire directly from the battery to the front where both units now pull power and the front HDS went from showing 9.9v to 12.3 to 12.5. Image quality on both FFS and DI improved but I still struggle to see a bait much past 40’. But I did some vertical jogging for crappie and I saw both the 1/8 jig and my 6lb mono as well as fish eating the jig. I think I’m getting interference from other units at longer distances. Tried turning all but transom 2D off and it did help.
@JohnShearАй бұрын
@@brucerudd69 The distance you can see somewhat depends what depth you are. It could also be a limitation of AT1. With AT2 I regularly cast 70 ft and have no problem seeing the lure. I also like a manual pole and have the transducer and handle perfectly aligned for the best precision.

I have caught a few bass from dense fast moving schools but it goes against the saying that bass stay spaced out. It would figure that I just caught a freak bite. I have also spent a lot of time TRYING to get a fast dense school to bite and never do. Maybe white bass.???? Your videos are by far the best, Thx
@Boethius4112 ай бұрын
Good question. I can tell you from experience that a small school of big gizzards will look exactly like a group of bass the way they are spaced. Especially on down and side scan. You can look down and see them in some the clear flowing creeks here down to probably 15 feet. They move constantly and really fast and are just in groups of 8-10 fish. They are really tall and flat and can be 12+ inches and look like a exactly the same as a wolf pack of 2lb bass did on the ledges a couple months ago. There’s always some random bass around them. So occasionally I would catch one. Lol Until I got into a really clear creek and literally saw them swim under my transducer I wasted all kinds of time trying to get them to bite. 😂

Been fishing with FFS since 2020. I can tell you that this is pretty normal with largemouth. We knew so little of how they interacted in the water. I regularly see schools of 300+ bass in the middle of the lake gorging on shad
