Yes. You can witness during his disputes with the judge, he displays a need to take control of the argument. It doesn't matter what's correct he will push so that he feels like he is in control or on top. If she doesn't give him the attention he wants, hell blatantly do things to aggravate her to get her to express her anger so he can fight her more. She says please sit, he stands, she says don't do this, he does opposite, she goes quiet and doesn't respond, he gets louder to get her attention.

This reminds me of ODD kids I have seen before. (I have tutored some of them, really attempted to.) Parents are not required to disclose medical conditions, but I do have the right to discharge them if I feel they are being too defiant or oppositional (thank goodness for security cameras and permission forms.). I eventually find out most of my students that I have had to discharge (realistically a rarity) have ODD or some other form of RAD (Reactive Attachment Disorder). Parents, reasonably, want me to teach their child because they are far behind and keep getting passed to the next grade despite having not really passed the previous one (hence why they end up failing their current course). Ultimately though, the parents are worn out, inconsistent with discipline, straight up don't think their is anything wrong with their child. (The parent Karen's modeling the poor behavior that their kids can get away with. They have familial/emotional problems at home that no one is addressing. If they are oppositional to family therapy or other interventions there is only so much I can do to help the kids if none the routines I establish or reward systems aren't maintained. (Ironically, parents let the reward system fall flat as soon as the behaviors improve which is precisely the opposite of what kids need in the beginning.) Children who have never had a regular consequence system don't have the decision making skills (or honestly the desire) to behave when there are no more rewards or risks to misbehaving. They constantly negotiate or fight in ways that essentially turn into bullying their parents or others. If and when they grow up they turn into the Darrell Brooks and end up in jail, chronically jobless or having difficulty in holding down employment, or unmarried with a long string of unfortunate girlfriends, many of whom have their own issues.

@@katydid5088 oppositional defiant disorder DOES NOT EXIST. The actual term for it is "TEENAGE REBELLION." You went through it once, so did I, but I did it in the early 2000s. They didn't see a 14 year old being a rebellious 14 year old, they saw a mental disorder and handed me a bottle full of bullshit that I immediately flushed in their office bathroom with the door wide open. If you were a teenager right now, it would be you getting a made up bullshit diagnosis. These people need to stop coming up with all these phony bullshit conditions just to justify pumping America's children, pre-teens and teenagers full of even more pharmaceuticals. It's almost like this country doesn't already have both a massive drug epidemic (opiates) AND a serious mental health crisis (kids on tiktok claiming to have autistm or some other condition like multiple personalities because they think it's cool and funny and will make them popular ... without even mentioning the alphabet mafia with their insane claims of "men ARE real women" and television commercials for tampons starring some random selectively amputated dude with a beard in a dress.)

@ryanc473
@ryanc473 Жыл бұрын
My dad (who's an attorney) has always said more or less the same thing, ESPECIALLY with the court clerk. The way he explains it, the court clerk can either be your best friend and an incredible ally, or the biggest thorn in your side without you even realizing it. And don't think they don't talk to the judge(s), because they ABSOLUTELY do. So if you treat them like crap, the judge will know. My dad's actually got a story about when he was working with a judge in law school where there was a brand new attorney who apparently missed the memo about the court clerks, and I guess he tried to file something incorrectly and when the clerk tried to correct him he just blew up and went off on her...as the judge happened to be walking by. After his tirade was done, and he was walking away, the judge grabbed a bailiff, had the attorney dragged into his courtroom, put on his robes and everything, and came out to a bewildered attorney, immediately asking why he shouldn't be held in contempt for the treatment of his staff. The attorney was scared shitless, and the judge asked for his name, told him he'd be reporting his conduct as unbecoming to the bar, and threw him out of the courtroom. My dad later asked if he ever actually reported the guy, and judge just laughed and said, no, the guy was just an idiot, I just wanted to put the fear of God into him so that he never treats another clerk like that again. Needless to say, my dad never heard of another issue with that particular attorney the entire time he was working at that court lol

He also said that his mother provided “evidence” that the car was faulty. I don’t know the whole story, or his upbringing, but by the sounds of it, it appears that she very much supports her son and is aiding in his defence. She’s his mother, who am I to to question why she has maintained that support. But she’s just fuelling his ego and his inability to accept responsibility for his actions. I don't know Brooks' mental health history, but my son has extensive mental health problems, and there are some similarities in their behavior. Ever since he was about 3, we have dealt with some of the most outrageous behavior you could imagine. As a child, I had to physically restrain him nearly everyday, and more often than not, multiple times a day. He was destructive and physically violent. The older and bigger he got, the harder it was to "control" him. My life, for nearly 2 decades, has been a living hell (My son is 19). August 2021: My son pulled a gun on my dad and tried to get him to get on his knees and beg for his life. It took me 3 days going back and forth to the magistrate trying to get them to admit my son in a hospital. They finally did, and despite my warnings, let him out after 3 weeks. Three days after his release: My son thought there were demons inside my dad. He trapped my 71-year-old dad in his own home and tormented him for 5 hours. He kicked my dad in the face, elbowed him, spit on him, and punched him. He told my dad he was going to kill him at midnight then go to my house and kill me. Thankfully, my dad was able to catch a chance to call me and whisper to me to call 911 and quickly hang up. My son spent 4 months in jail for holding my dad captive, physically beating him, splitting his lip, and displacing the retina in his eye. April 2022 My son has a psychotic break and stabs a 24-year-old girl at Walmart. She didn't die, but she had to get staples in her head and stitched in other places. Thank God it was a box cutter and not a knife. He is now sitting in jail for malicious wounding facing 5-20 years. I tried so hard to get my son help. The hospital should have never released him, but they couldn't hold him once they thought he was no longer a risk. Our long-term mental institutions were shut down in the 60's, so this is the type of stuff that ends up happening. Instead of prevention and/or treatment, our system is designed in a way that nothing can really be done until a crime is committed. His lawyer is pleading insanity, but odds are against my son even with his extensive mental health history. If they won't treat him, they'll lock him up. He'll one day be released to hurt someone else. I see similarities between Brooks and my son. I wonder if Brooks has mental health issues that have gone untreated. There are definitely similarities, but my son experiences delusions and paranoia. It doesn't seem that Brooks does. I wonder if he's Bi Polar? Anyway, if his mother is feeling relief, I completely understand. I'd rather my son be in a hospital instead of jail, but I still feel a sense of peace. I feel safe in my home again. There isn't this continuous sense of impending doom. There's no longer the dread of hearing my son stomping down the stairs first thing in the morning, doing all the can to start the day in misery. I was a prisoner in my own home. Any peace she has, unless she's played any role in this, is much deserved. She is safe now. Edit: For the person above that is blaming the parents: Although that definitely could be true, it also may not be. Personally, I was adopted into a really good family, but my biological family is rampant with mental health issues and dysfunction. My son also lived a stable life with me, his father, and surrounded by the family who adopted me. In my son's case, I think genetics was the major factor at play.

Having watched this trial from the beginning I believe much of what Mr.Brooks is doing every day in court is acting out because he knows he has an audience and he does not want to go to prison. He is doing everything he can to disrupt and slow down the trial. To say he is GUILTY is an understatement.

The judge was so lenient and helpful to him. She knew he would be appealing and trying to get a mistrial and saying it wasn't "fair". The jury had to leave and come back so many times their seats likely never got warm. This barely showed what he was like during the whole proceeding. That judge called so many early lunches and 5 minute breaks to not go off on this man openly disrespecting her, the jury, and everyone in the courtroom that it was amazing. His questions to the judge made no sense in many cases like when he kept asking why he was in contempt after being told he was not in contempt. He wanted the right to face the accuser when the state of Wisconsin was the one who filed the charges and the state of WI sent a prosecutor to prosecute him for his crimes. His closing statement went directly against the judge's order where he basically told the jury they could choose to make their own laws and to enforce them or not and he should basically be found innocent because to him these laws are stupid. The jury was told to bring overnight bags for deliberations but for 76 counts it basically took them the time to fill out the paperwork on 76 counts to come back as all guilty.

@@dikhurtz2406 The thing is though, Brooks is almost definitely going to *try* and claim a mistrial, he's openly stated so in that courtroom a few times so the judge taking additional time to make sure that the record is straight and there's no grounds for that mistrial to stand on is smart albeit extremely frustrating. I also think that there's no real loss to the case itself because we should understand that most of his antics happen in front of the jury as well. If a jury can see all his antics in court and reasonably believe that he should walk after completely making a mess of the courtroom, decorum, the rules of the state and all that, then something has gone very very wrong in the heads of the jury. I do have some concerns about other cases potentially starting to back up since this case is taking significantly longer than expected (The prosecution had to rest 1 day later than expected due to Brooks taking up additional time) but considering they have an extra courtroom to house Brooks in when he is being disruptive, it's not a strong concern imo. Edit: I should also add that there are definitely times when even I feel the urge to roll my eyes at the judge though, there was a moment on Thursday where she ejected him for being disruptive, then explained everything to him and let him back after about 10 minutes. ... That's clearly not enough time for him to even ruminate over his behaviour. (Although I will add that he did in fact stop being as disruptive after that.)

My heart is with those families of those who died and the victims and their families who are living and yes his ex girlfriend and his kids and any of his family because they didn't ask nor tell him to do what horrible stuff he did. In a way I understand how his ex girlfriend feels because I've been with narcissistic men,etc..suffered abuse.. especially from my last ex boyfriend. I've seen people elsewhere say she deserved it and she shouldn't of chosen to be with him. But here's the thing unless someone has been a survivor of this and abuse or know someone who has, they don't understand. I would say for anyone who says this about someone like the young lady, myself and any other survivors and victims, imagine if it was you or someone who you love or is a family member or friend dating someone like this.. they've endured enough by the perps, you criticizing them, is as if you victimizing them all over again. What a lot of people don’t realize is just how fragile this situation was. If she’d gotten tougher, lost her cool, come down harder on him etc., all that would be grounds for him to turn around and say “I want a new trial, she’s biased/mean/unethical/she bullied me. I didn’t get a fair trial.” Yeah, she’s fair and balanced, but one slip-up from her could easily result in a re-trial. She’s doing the best she can to make sure that once he’s in jail, that’s where he’ll stay. It’s not a matter of “okay NOW I can be tougher because I’ve been patient long enough.” That’s not how the system works. There’s not some cutoff time where she can just start going Judge Judy on him. She’s being scrutinized, and she KNOWS she’s being scrutinized, from the minute she first enters the courtroom until the very last time she leaves. “Oh, she’s been patient long enough.” No, she’s doing her job. It's actually not a good objection: the Spanish speaking witness was Brooks' witness.

Someone needs to give this judge a fruit basket for 1,000,000 percent patience.

More than a fruit basket. Anything that will help her recoup to inevitably hear about this case is worth it.

I would love to see a thousand bouquets of flowers delivered to the courthouse and laid on the steps when this case is over.

I hope she gets a nice Christmas present from her fellow judges. This entire trial is a lot to deal with a spectator I couldn’t imagine being the Judge and having that amount of restraint.

I believe that first witness you highlighted, with the torn ligaments, was being questioned under cross. If I remember correctly the judge pointed out that under Wisconsin 906.11(3) leading questions can be used during cross, they are only prohibited during direct. Non-lawyer, probably wrong. Thank you!

Nope. That's exactly the way I remember it, except I don't remember the Wisconsin law reference.

This judge is amazing, I don't care what the doubters say. He is obviously just delaying the inevitable as much as possible, and hoping to get off on a technicality, and she knows how to deal with that.

i am shocked to see how easy it is for him to throw victims he killed and their families under the bus, funny how even serial killers showed a hint of remorse for their horrible actions

Having grown up in the hood, I have seen so many people like this. Doesn't matter if it's the trailer park or the hood, this is the result of a lack of being raised by parents and lack of education.

I’m obsessed with this trial. Dude is off his rocker!! Not sure if you remember Caveman Lawyer from SNL back in the day, but Darrell should have a show called Hood Lawyer where it’s just shots of him arguing with the judge.

I would watch that show! It could be like Jerry Springer! Darrell could put hands on clients and throw chairs in the courtroom 🤣

I'm reasonably confident that both Ghandi and Martin Luther King Jr. would call for a lynch mob in this particular case.

When watching him question the witnesses it was so weird because it was like he thought he was a lawyer and they were the ones on trial. The people he called in his defense helped the prosecution out. The jury did exactly what he asked of them. To make the right decision and hope that they can live with it. I believe he also said something like “ Don’t kick yourself in the butt in the future “. I would have to go back and listen to it again but all I could think was the only thing that would make them regret their decision in the future is if they let him walk free only to find out he killer someone else
