To explain this story, and the genius page also offers a pretty much the same explanation. The first verse is about Polo's upbringing from the 3rd person, and Jacob, is a sort of combination of two twins from polo's block, who died in a very similar fashion to the way Jacob's death is described in this story. Furthermore on the opening track [Painting Pictures] to his album Hall of Fame, the music video and track are dedicated to Edward Bryant, one of the twins who passed away. Verse 2 is where this track diverges from real life, and becomes much more of a story rather than almost a retelling of facts. Polo's hood is called Sedville, and the character Sed's nickname is derivative of that. Polo's real name is Taurus, and the real name of Sed is Terrence, which is extremely similar to Polo's name and many think he's just describing himself while keeping the tone of the track in 3rd person. Verse 3 is the furthest divergence from the real situation but is again still storytelling, and is where Sed (Polo) exacts revenge on Rodney for Jacob. All while it ends in Sed being sentenced 49 years in prison. The part I find the most confusing is the ending news sample. As there are a few differences from polo's storytelling and the original. 1 being the sentence length, 2 being the name smith is said. Albeit this could just be artwork and have no relevance to any real life situations whatsoever. But this is what I've found or made connections to in chicago news articles and other sources.
