I have dealing electrical and electronics for 50 years, use the largest gauge wire for your application. Example I use 10 gauge wire for a 50 foot run of wire for my solar panels. The larger gauge wire you use the better, more current capacity and less voltage drop! I hope this helps you in your vehicle set up.

Hi Matt, it is quite fascinating to watch your efforts and the evolvement of your Camper to something so special?! May I suggest that you do some of the mounting of equipment, especially electronic and electrical equipment on rubber mounts because the corrugation on the gravel roads, will cause damage to your equipment due to vibrations, etc

Looking good Matt. Very neat and well thought out. Having just done a 12V build in my canopy myself, I agree with your sentiments regarding the sense of accomplishment when it's all done. One note: Look on Victron's website, they have documentation regarding the installation orientation of their inverters. Their preferred method is to orientate the inverter vertical with the fan at the bottom to allow for hot air to rise unobstructed through the aluminium heatsink.

I love this!!! We've also got an Alu-Cab Canopy Camper, but I'm thinking of redesigning our layout, and I really like what you have done here. I can't wait to see the next episode when you show your cupboard build. If possible, I'd like to contact you and get more details of materials and where you sourced stuff.

Awesome. Well done. While I had moments of frustration as times, I loved building out my past 2 vehicles myself. The sense of accomplishment is so worth while.

Well done, Matt. All this homework now will ensure that when you do get out there again, your vehicle and its systems will be the least of your concerns.

Nice video! And very neatly done. One important thing to add to your circuit is a fuse on the main battery side of the cable going to your dc-dc. That main cable should always be fused on both ends in case of a short circuit on that main cable run to the dc-dc

There is a fuse there also👍🏻

I hope you have better luck with the Blue Nova batteries than I had with mine which stopped charging or holding a charge after three years but very little use; maybe one month each year. Blue Nova weren't helpful either; send it back to them at my cost, if it was repairable they would repair it but at my cost.

Very disappointing of Blue Nova as I too have their batteries 🥸

Great vid as usual! I wrote off the camper as being too small for a double cab bakkie to be practical but seeing the previews of the finished product I may have been too hasty in my decision. Can't wait for the next episode. PS will you get the marine gas heater?
@mattdubber
@mattdubber 17 күн бұрын
It’s not huge but its perfect for what we do! I think if I get a heater it will be a portable diesel heater that sits outside with a pipe that can be run inside through a vent. Then at least it can be left at home in the summer. No need to fit something like that permanently.

Looks great. My only concern would be the 100A circuit breaker. The 6mm? wire running to and from it will be on fire by the time it 'breaks' the circuit. Fuse for the wire size, not the expected load. But you know that.

There is a smaller fuse on the battery side also

Hi Matt, ever considered the Flexopower unit? I have a dual battery system and a old 555 Flexopower unit. These days you get bigger Flexi units but I must say since I have been using my Flexopower I am considering not paying all the money in the future for fitting out a car and just using a Flexopower Unit. PS also SA brand
