I love the VIZ dub but honestly, the DiC dub of Rubeus was perfect in my opinion. Robert absolutely nailed Rubeus and while it may not be as faithful to the original as Viz's dub, I think Robert did a marvelous job as Rubeus - he was so good at being a jerk.

Robert Was Perfect he made u hate Rubeus after mistreating Katsy/Koan so that tells u that he did a good job and i find how he sounded more frighten when emerald/esmurade abandon Him while Steve Staley didn't sound like he even tried in that scene but i thought he was perfect as neji in Naruto but and suprisely like i could picture Stephanie sheh as sailor moon i could picture steve Staley as Rubeus but i figured he could of done better especially rubeus death he could of put more enthusiasm into his voice like Robert

I'm pretty sure he meant "simpleton," cuz in the 90s, it was the hip and cool thing to do to shorten words. Just like adding a "z" to everything -- gamez, showz, kidz, moviez, etc. If I remember correctly, the Dic Dub was also very...creative with inventing it's own slang. 😅

Robert had one hell of a good time voicing Rubeus. I thought he was great as an aggressive, arrogant piece of shit. But Steve was also pretty strong, and I loved how he got the manipulative cruelty across. I think he managed to make Rubeus sound more pathetic in his final moments, too. But I also liked how Robert sounded despondent AND extremely pissed off.

Robert's voice was actually good for Rubeus but sounded a bit sloppy half the time,but with better direction he would have been perfect. Steve did a great capturing Rubeus emotions

lol sloppy describes most of viz dub. oooh la la "cosmetic fragrances"...such emotions in viz. the script in viz is so generic..oddly specific AND non specific at the same time translated into english, made more bland with the sloppy voice direction. DIC: A negaBOMB that'll blast this DUMP into CHOPSTICKS! Think of it as my farewell gift to you, huh? Much more practical than those stupid knick-knacks YOU gave ME! VIZ: Something to erase that sailor guardian from this wooorld. I think you'll find it to be quite a useful gift, unlike that stupid cosmetic fragrance you gave me... I think that’s pretty fair. Rubeus is very cold hearted and manipulative, and Steve delivers that very well. I prefer Robert for his very bombastic and memorable performance, but I do think that Steve has a good grasp of Rubeus’ character.

In terms of the dubbed versions I do like the direction Steve went with for Rubeus, but I'm sorry, Robert Tinkler just IS the character for me. The casting of him in the role and the performance he gave was one of the rare elements of the DiC dub I can say there was nothing wrong with; he nailed it.

Wataru Takagi is easily my favorite Rubeus voice. It helps that he later voiced Obito Uchiha from Naruto. It’s the version of 90’s Rubeus I analyze the most.

This is the first time I've heard Steve Staley as Rubeus, and I have to say he fits as him more than what I've seen of his performance as Toshiro from Bleach. It's the same tone, but I think it works better since Rubeus in an older character. But good news is that Steve Staley does get better with Toshiro as the dub progresses, but I still prefer Romi Park.

Both of the Japanese voice actors did a great job as crimson rubeus in the original sailor moon and the sailor moon crystal series. in the dic dub version of sailor moon,robert tinkler did a great job as rubeus even though the dic dub was so cheesy and hilarious and steve staley did a good job as him too in the viz dub version of sailor moon.

I figured I could make a new comment for a fresh start because I think I was a little too hard on some of these guys. Takagi and Staley did bring something unique from the usual voice you get from young-looking dudes in animation. For a reason like that, I'm not too fond of Takahashi's take. Tinkler's performance has a really strong premise, but it seems that the DiC dub suffered from sucky directing. But darn, it got so close. Back to Staley, I think that line about love in the Black Moon Clan was the only part I thought was off in its delivery. Mostly, it's pretty solid without copying what was already done.

No doubt it made him 10 times the asshole the 4 sisters were. Just like when Prisma had the power strobe & Avery said Prisma wasn't that bad. The strobe made all her faults 10 times worse along with her power. I'd say the same was with him bcuz he and catsy use to be in love. wiseman came along and blew everybody's lives apart. No doubt he was dissing one to another one destroying relationships. See how he told Rini nobody loved her? Sapphire & Prisma were together & ended up apart only to reconnect when it was time for him to die.

Damn, and Sailor Moon Abridged didn't even do the Dark Moon/Crystal Tokyo episodes. If that abridged dub were as popular as LittleKuriboh's Yu Gi Oh Abridged or TeamFourStar's Dragon Ball Z Abridged, they could have brought in the original DiC VAs to make fun of themselves. And directionless/rushed or not, there are those out there who like Robert Tinkler's take on Rubeus for nostalgia reasons or because, in spite of the directionlessness and rushing, he really does a good job portraying Rubeus as an asshole who uses people (mainly women) to further his goals. Steve Staley's is more polished and on par with the Japanese version of him.
