As far as the Secret Ending is concern in DoC, it has something to do with Genesis being released to fight a new Evil. This means, Genesis is a good guy in the new sequel; that is, if there will even be one.

In the game there are text messages that come through Zack's phone. Not directly, but we find out that Lazard is the illegitamate son of the President Shin-Ra. Lazard wants revenge against the company. This is why he goes missing during Chapter 7.

It's a process called "degradation" (which is already pretty self-explanatory). Every person who are injected with Jenova Cells but proved incompatible will have their body slowly degrading (in other words, destroyed slowly) and making them weaker.

He was president Shinra's illegitimate son and grew up in he slums, he also watched his mother die of disease due poverty. He wanted revenge on SHINRA and his fathers legacy, so he got a job in the company and rose to be the leader of SOLDIER.
