I think Raiders of the Lost Ark is actually Spielberg's best work, as odd as that might sound. It required a perfect balance of seriousness and goofy humor, a perfect mixture of surprisingly deep character work and well crafted and executed action sequences and the perfect combination of brilliant script with excellent editing and Spielberg's best direction. It's lightning in a bottle, nothing else in the genre comes close; even Spielberg's own Last Crusade comes up short. It's Spielberg at his absolute peak, aligned with George Lucas, John Williams, Harrison Ford and dozens of other lesser known people all producing their best work for a movie that's a masterpiece. I'd argue that the balance that Raiders achieves is a bit harder to get right than a straight up drama.

Speaking of the opening scene of A Spy Who Loved Me, I actually worked with one of the stunt ski guys in Sydney, around 2007. He's an IT trainer now, but he used to be a ski instructor and got asked to do the movie. Said it was the best thing in his life. Nice guy too, Alan something.

I enjoyed watching the first season of Farscape. I had never heard of it before I started watching, so it was a surprise to me when I found the show likable. I like watching the ramifications of what having a living ship would mean: to have a ship that has to be comforted when she's scared or acts impulsively when she feels insecure. I thought it was so interesting when D'Argo broke off the prophylactic and got caught up in the spawning stream that I called up my daughter to ask her to watch the show too, so I could make sure what I thought I was watching was what I actually saw. I liked the show where Aerin 'meets' Chricton's father. It was a reminder of just how alien she actually is. And I like the compassion and empathy of Zhaan. I thought her character was very choppy for a while, watching her go from motherly to conniving, even if it was explained by the plot. I was glad to see some resolution with the union of John and Zhaan's minds, where there is a deeper connection forged between them when he lets her know how he sees her.

Max von Sydow played a hitman in one of my favourite films, Three Days of the Condor. And he played him as such a gentle soul. When the young girl receptionist says to him "I won't scream" and he says, with a little smile like he's your favourite uncle, "I know" and then shoots her dead, it's one of cinema's great underplayed moments. It was the polar opposite of someone like Lee Marvin in The Killers.

You got me thinking about those old horror movies, I might have to track down The Omen and Omen 2 which has Damien older and it's scary and shit and I think the best movie in the series, the Invasion of the Body Snatchers with Donald Sutherland is brilliant, The Exorcist is of course brilliant. Some other mentions are Warlock, which I watched recently and The Seventh Sign starring Demi Moore. Also Nightmare on Elm Street is a classic and well, basically all the horror films from the 70s and 80s.

The whole thing about rolling is called impetus. If you can lengthen the amount of time it takes you to come to a stop, you're reducing the amount of force you feel at any given moment in time. If you can do that enough, you'll be able to survive. A 16-year-old girl failed to deploy her parachute when skydiving and ended up falling 5,000 feet and landing in a tree. She broke a number of branches on her way down to the ground and came out of it with bruises and a broken arm. The breaking branches slowed her down gradually enough that she was able to survive. I would use this to teach about it in my intro to physics class.

No When Landing from excessively high distances like 1000ft you can get lucky with how you land, Its about dispersing the energy of the fall, as humans we don't have the instincts of lets say a cat that can do it naturally, humans as said we do get lucky, like cats we actually have a better chance of less injury if we can break terminal velocity, its how a cat like "Andy" true story fell 16 floors and got away with only a cracked rib and a chipped tooth, he has AFAIK the highest recorded, but interestingly we don't know as some just instantly die while others seemingly have feline immortality when dealing with high falls. As far as I get from the Physics it's a matter of Terminal Velocity and Wind Resistance canceling each other out. I mean 1000feet is about 10 stories so keep that in mind.

Each of those shows made terrible things to MCU. I would put Loki first. To turn infinity stones into almost useless shreds of coloured glass was bad but at least it has some function in the story as it should show TVA as something above anything Loki has encountered up until that point. But the crap in the other shows was really just a crap... Wandavision started good but "They'll never know what you sacrificed for them" made me projectile puke and sh*t at the same time.
