Then they came away saying "yea ok...better, but still not GOOD", still full of messaging. Seems these guys on a first watch miss some stuff and need reflection or second watch before it's obvious. @@ninjanibba4259 This is my main problem with Shazam. He has all these powers he uses all the time, but never the wisdom of Solomon. Shazam should be smarter than Batman or Lex Luthor. I guess Shazam has always been a 3rd-rate character and has never had good writers. He should be a lot more than what he is. In the movie, he should have figured out his powers instantly without help (Black Adam did) and also find his (Billy's) mom within hours. Solomon was beyond brilliant. Ridiculously smart.

MCU movies have always excelled at music. It's all through. Iron Man prefers AC/DC. Doctor Strange has every song memorized and has people quiz him during surgery. Star Lord carries around a cassette tape of song his mother recorded for him. DC has always been too on the nose with music. There's no finesse at all. So if someone had jumping powers they'd play something like Van Halen's "Jump". Very basic. No thought required.

He´s also not black so they changed him a lot for this. -Black Adam, like Shazam and Wonder Woman, has wisdom that comes from the gods, thus he can speak english or any other language.

When you are forced to say that mediocre movies are decent, that's a problem. That's a fundamental problem stemming from the lack of proper story telling in Hollywood. I really wish they had the kid Hurut (?), start out as being cowardly, then in the last act, when someone has to rally the people of the city to fight the monsters, he says he can't do it, but Black Adam (who said he doesn't kneel) kneels down in front of Hurut and tells him something like "You don't always need power to be a champion. Anyone can be a hero, if they choose to find the courage to do so." And as he's talking, intercut the image of his son. That would have tied some of the points of the movie together and really hit in the heart I think. It would have been like what he wished he had told his own son.

You have the movie, which is represented in "h", and then the rock, who is represented in the "uh", and together, they create the "huh". I like how in the Christopher Reeves Superman films, he talks about how he always generates an energy field that he can surround other things in, and so, when Superman lifts, he is basically causing whatever he touches, that he is lifting, to also have the same force exerted around all of it. This is why Superman has the most believable superhuman strength ability, rather then just pushing really hard at one point of something and it somehow makes the entire thing lift without bending or breaking.

I don't remember Christopher Reeves explaining that. The first time I remember them discussing it was in the 80's when John Byrne took over creative control of Superman for the reboot and called it "tactile telekinesis". This would allow him to lift a whale, for instance, without just going right through the whale like a bayonet. If he just had strength and flight, he wouldn't be able to pick up a whale without causing serious damage to it.

Familiar but not played out. It kinda worked. Fate was a lot like Strange. Atom Smasher was a lot like enlarged Ant-man. Also the annoying kid was like Freddie Freeman in Shazam. Hero worshipper, teaches BA to be a hero, and even called his power set "stacked". Hawkman lived at Professor Xavier's mansion school, complete with a VTOL SR-71 jet. They were fighting over Eternium like Wakanda people fighting over vibranium. Very deja vu.

Interestingly Hawkman's son Hector DID become Doctor Fate in the comics for awhile and honestly he was just about the only other tolerable incarnation of the character outside of Kent and his wife Inza because the writers usually have NO idea what to do with Dr.Fate at all and usually retcon how it even works, to the point that the person wearing the Helm is just a warm body for the spirit of the Helm to possess ( and no, new 52 and Young Justice fanboys, that's not how it always worked)

Here's what I'll say in defense of Atom Smasher and Cyclone in particular: they both were incredible *unoffensive* . I've gotten so used to seeing youth characters be insufferably woke I was just expecting it. But while Smasher is a dork he does clearly have a deep drive to save people, prioritizing damage control when he could have been just smashing stuff, and Cyclone is *really nice* , doesn't backbite or condescend, and despite clearly being a very intelligent person, she doesn't lord it over anyone.. she's even *humble* about it and pointing out the mad scientist's nanobots are doing a lot of the heavy lifting. I'll take that over loud, soul-sappingly woke toddler teens any day of the week, just have to punch up their story impact and include some character development and you've got some winners. Maybe next time around!

@@protorhinocerator142 I can't help but think they could have very easily given the new recruits a bit more shine if they squeezed in moments where Hawkman directs them to focus on protecting the citizens from Intergang at first, then the minions of Hell, and Dr. Fate could have remotely given them insight as he and Hawkman were focused on removing Adam from the city, or taking Sabbac head on. The story really wanted to throw shade at the Justice Society for not giving a crap about Khandaq, but these guys really are heroes and would be gladly putting themselves at risk to keep them safe while the heavy hitters are smashing things around. This movie is the first movie I can remember having felt like having a cinema audience around me while watching it actually improved the experience. The people around me where reacting to jokes or "cool" moments in a very positive way which made thos somewhat... "okay" scene feel way better than they really where. I liked it, it wasn't bad, but it had a couple of very forced and cringy expositions, one of the most awful "kid sidekick" (that comes bundled with him mom) we've seen in a while, but the couple of Mortal Kombat fatalities in there made up for it. One part that was very... "unconfortable" wa the very obvious anti-american set up they had originally, with not-iraq occupied by evil not-USA, but its pretty clear they scrubbed a LOT of it in the later edits. Still, you can feel its shadow looming over the movie, and the way thos not-USA guy just... vanish from the country right when (minor spoiler) the evil big bad show up, was pretty jarring. Especially since it would have been an easy way to have them help a bit the country and don't look as bad.
