Honestly I believe that they did this on purpose. They knew that nobody would really care about this African Queens series & so they race swapped a famous historical figure in Cleopatra to garner attention. At the end of the day they got more eyeballs on a product which will likely translate to more revenue.

That’s the show where they made the Queen of England black? That’s probably the most bizarre change I’ve ever seen, because every single person who’s not from the U.K. are going to be thinking is this real? Was she actually black? Things like that should not be done, it would be like making a movie about the Zulu and having the head of the tribe played by a white actor, it’s just counter productive, you’re going to have people questioning things about the characters rather than focusing on the actual movie.

It warms people hearts who played assassins creed origins and because of Netflix cleopatra series. Ironically I would want to give this game a chance. Sure it’s set in Ptolemaic Egypt. Set in the late dynasty of course and Romes rise from republic to its empire status. But it’s still more accurate than Netflix’s version of it.

As an Egyptian, thank you so much for this video. What makes us "Egyptians" furious is that the creators of this show are promoting and spreading the dangerous and toxic Ideas of AFRO_CENTRISM. Those Afro-centrists view the African CONTINENT as one race/ one ethnicity and anyone and any race/ethnicity that doesn't look like the sub-Saharan Africans doesn't belong to the African continent. So, all the north African nations (that consists of different ethnicities) are not true Africans, and they don't belong to the continent of Africa. Those north African people are a punch of intruders, invaders and colonizers. The real intent of this series is to promote and spread the Afro-Centric ideas to people who don't know history. They want to erase the real history and rewrite a new alternative blackwashed history. For years, Egyptians are being accused of stealing the land of (Egypt). We are being called intruders, invaders and colonizers. Those Afro-Centrists are brainwashed by pseudo-historians like Cheikh Anta Diop who claims that the whole Egyptian civilization is a BLACK civilization and After centuries those black people who made that civilization somehow vanished from Egypt and are now located in the south of the Sahara. Not only they claim that Cleopatra was black and the whole Egyptian civilization was black, but they also claim that the ancient Greeks were black, and the Greek civilization is a black civilization. They claim that the Irish people were originally black. They claim that the Chinese civilization and the Meso-American civilization were created by black people. Those Afro-centrists want to blackwash and rewrite the whole worlds history fueled by hatred and conspiracy theories. Egyptians are furious because we see our history being stolen and rewritten in front of our own eyes. The sad reality is that the Afrocentric movement is claiming all the North African civilizations to be black. Not just Egypt. Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morrocco are black civilizations. And the people who live in those counties now are thieves and intruders. And regarding to our race and skin color which the "AFRO_CENTRICS" are always obsessed with; Egyptians are not white and not sub-Saharan black. Even Egyptians with the darkest of tones don't share the same facial features with sub-Saharan Africans. There is a spectrum of skin tones in Egypt that ranges from Mediterranean light skin to champagne and olive skin tones to that reddish brown (that was depicted on the temples) to the dark brown. My father was brown (and can be considered as black in the American eyes) and my mother is light skinned like the Mediterranean people. I feel that we are getting dragged to the American political and the racial tensions there. There are a lot of amazing sub-Saharan civilizations. Why African Americans who are originally from sub-Saharan - west African countries claim that they build the pyramids, and they are the owner of my civilization and culture? Why they are not proud of the west African civilizations. Also, the 25th dynasty of ancient Egypt were black people from Nubia. We never denied that. There are indeed black pharaohs who ruled Egypt during that dynasty. They defeated the Egyptians and conquered Egypt and established their dynasty. Why don't they talk about this era? Why they want to claim the whole of the ancient Egyptian civilization? The Egyptian Civilization is not a sub-Saharan black civilization. The Egyptian Civilization is a North African civilization. Africa is not one race or one ethnicity. Nefertiti was NOT black. Hatshepsut was not black. Nefertari was not black. STOP blackwashing our history. Egyptians are very proud of each era of their history. We are proud of every period and every ruling dynasty who ruled Egypt. We were ruled by Nubians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Persians, Albanians and Turks. We are proud of all of those periods. Cleopatra was Greek. Every Egyptian knows that. And we are proud of her, and we consider her Egyptian as a nationality not as a race or ethnicity. We know that she was Greek from Macedonia. We respect Cleopatra enough to not strip her from her heritage and her ancestry. So, the problem is so much deeper than actress skin tone.

I wrote Egypt for Egyptians on facebook, and the amount of hate I received is gut wrenching, I got messages from people making fun of my profile photo, making fun of my features and skin color, saying its tooooo pale, and saying bad words to me, and that I am not Egyptian. They do not understand that Egypt has always been diverse, north Egyptians and south Egyptians do not look the same, yet we are all equally and 100% Egyptians, and we’ll stand against anyone who tries to take our identity from us. Africa is not a country its a continent for god’s sake, north Africa is near the mediterranean, and Egypt is transcontinental, part of it in Africa and another part in Asia. They are trying to take my identity from me, and Im supposed to be okay with that ? Im purly, 100% Egyptian. They claim that we are racist, yet they are the one making fun of me and my skin color. I’ve never in my life received that much hate, for proudly saying that I am Egyptian, and only for saying Egypt for Egyptians. These people seem to be obsessed with skin color, we’ve never faced this here in Egypt, I never knew that skin is color such a big deal. They can’t even speak my ancient Egyptian language, and they do not celebrate our ancient festivals as national holidays (sham l neseem), and they come here telling me Im not Egyptian enough. They need to resolve their inferiority complex elsewhere.

After the first 20 minutes you forget all the discussion about skin colour because the show is so incredibly bad. Mediocre acting, cheap sets and the clothes just look too artificial. My favourite part was when they were talking about Cleopatra sneaking into Julius Ceasar's room for a private conversation and one of the experts said that this story could be fictional because the source for this story lived 150 years after the alleged event. The same "expert" told us that Cleopatra was black because her grandmother (who lived 1800 years after Cleopatra) told her so.

I asume there is such a focus on Egyptian history because it is the most popular history from the African continent. Even if people have nothing to do with history in general, they probably have heard stories about mummies, pyramids, "god-like" kings (with fancy hats) and the country is promintly featured in the bible. That may barely scratch the surface but I wouldn't be surprised if this movements knowledge about the rest of the continents history boils down to tribes and clay huts and then the big kings who live in fancy triangles seem to be way more appealing 🙄

Cleopatra is one of the most interesting women in history, and this is how they do her justice. And Adele has the gall to basically call the Egyptian people idiots when it comes down to their own country's history. Yes, racism is a lot different now than it was back then, but back then it wasn't based on skin color, it was based more on the fact if you were civilized or not. The ancient romans considered anyone that wasn't them to essentially be barbarians, and that wasn't based on skin color, it was due to their culture absorbing land that fit their needs and civilizing them in their minds.

Back in my day, when a video is called documentary, it is usually a video with lots of interviews from historians, scientists, archeologists, etc. Sometimes it features actor portrayal of a historical event/s or person/s. Oftentimes, the video shows some artworks or relics that relates to that historical figure, place, or event. I know that sometimes studios don't have the proper actors for the role, but they always try to keep it as close as possible to the historical piece, but this "documentary" about Cleopatra is far from the what she actually is depicted as. They should have known better.

That last part of the video is the most important. It's all about Netflix' ESG score which was created by Larry Fink of Black Rock group, who along with their peers are both shareholders in many companies including the likes of Disney and Netflix as well as credit providers. When your ability to receive credit depends on your ESG score and on top of that you have some of your biggest shareholders also pushing it, it's simply impossible not to go along with it. Now, don't get me wrong, even though ESG is a terrible thing, there are many different ways to tackle it. Netflix, like Disney and most other entertainment companies, simply choose the easiest way out, which is to discriminate against straight white people(especially men but also women) in hiring practices and promotions(who cares that it's illegal, and good luck proving it against their legion of lawyers) which brings all these talentless hacks to the forefront(actors and producers alike). And since they're talentless they won't make new original content god forbid but instead hijack existing content(black washing) be it fictional(comic books and stuff) or now even historical(a new low). Look, Black Panther, as much as I disliked the original movie, was a step in the right direction as that was ESG farming but with a clear direction and reason. That was original content starring a black actor and the entire story was in a black setting(a tribal African nation). It's very unfortunate that Hollywood doesn't make more similar projects, be it original content or historical dramas of famous black people in history. I mean there's no shortage of those, especially in the histories of the various African nations and empires over the years but not limited to that at all. It's really not that hard to do, I mean they've done that aplenty for white people and white history. But than again that requires actual talent and I also suspect that all the white Hollywood big shots(producers, directors, etc) actively refuse to create such projects because all those Hollywood elites are incredibly racist themselves(both the whites and blacks mind you). So instead you get token talentless black people to fill the production roles and just produce content. So we get all the black washing garbage and awfully preachy Hollywood content that we're getting.

I love history, when I watch an historical movie, documentary, or read a book on a certain historical subject, I expect it all to be true and accurate. When you manipulate history to your image because you don’t like it in order to profit off of it and brainwash/lie to future generations like mine, it makes me angry to see because they may view a documentary like this as fact when it isn’t. Things like that can create division and are potentially dangerous.
