I've never heard of this before 🤯 I used to crochet stuffies and always kinda figured those yarns were just meant to look like color chaos. I never thought you could build a coherent pattern from it. 10/10 looking blankets, my goodness

Color chaos is the perfect term! It's why I've crocheted only with solid color yarn, and occasionally two-color yarn, which isn't chaotic. Oh, one exception is a Christmas-y cotton yarn, white with specks of red and green, with which I made potholders to give as gifts, and they turned out nicely, no chaos there, either. 😃

😊Same, well almost. I once made a pooled slipper (by accident, I very soon learned). It was the first time I used a multi colored yarn, so I thought, ”cool, they’re being automatically color blocked”. 😂 The second slipper, of course, became a colour chaos. My mom got them for Christmas. I still remember my brother saying ”One is striped?” 😂This video put my mind at rest. Finally one of life’s mysteries solved.

You are such a great teacher that this concept finally clicked for me. I hadn't thought to stick to just moss and granny stitches and use the stitches themselves as the unit of measure. Instead, I tried to ram my way through a specific pattern and yarn (because adhd hyperfocus) and had to cut it so much that I may as well have just used differently colored yarns. Oh my goodness! I’m so sorry! I started responding to another video, it ended and yours began. I went back to finish my comment and it popped into your video, not the one I had been watching before the switch! Thank you for loving the comment…it was a very sweet way to deal with a comment that was obviously not meant for your video. ❤️

I just want to recommend hobbii print yarn - it really has sharp transitions and different lengths of pooling in different yarns. I used it for another project and it pooled somewhat, thought it would be possible to do something more with this, and happily found this video! It is amazing what is possible with just a printed yarn.

@@ItsTimeforYarn I just bought the ribbon yarn! Will make a big tote bag. And working with the print (colourway with pink, purple, green and blue pastels) and this yarn is the reason I realized perhaps colour pooling was a thing (I never knew about it but noticed the yarn was pooling and thinking it should be possible to control).

I just had KZbin suggest this video to me out of the blue and I am so glad it did! I've always liked the idea of trying to get multicolored yarns to fall into certain patterns and such, but never had the mind to really figure out how to get it to work. This video was great about explaining.

This is amazing! And inspiring. You make this technique seem possible - though when I saw your finished work I initially thought, "No way!" My solution to using variegated yarn (the Ice Picasso yarns, for instance) has been to outline them with a solid color to create a "stained glass window pane" effect, setting off little areas of the different colors. That works for some projects, but I don't like the polka-dot effect it gives in others. When I finish my current complex afghan, I'll see if I can do this. Thanks - and brava!
