I love the tip about doing your foundation chain with a bigger hook and then going back to the smaller hook for the rest of your work. That's where I tend to be too tight and then it messes everything up. I'm new to crochet so this video was very helpful to me. Thanks!

I LOVE your channel. I’m very new to crochet(about 2 months in) but your tutorials have gotten me very far so far. You’re a very very effective instructor! I love that you give UK and US stitch names because I’m in the US and would not have known the difference otherwise. And finally, you have a very lovely voice and way of presenting things. It makes it more like a story than a lesson. Thank you for your posts and your help!

Thank you for this and other videos of your's that have helped me a lot. The advice here helped me with this problem. I didn't get a yarn bowl (couldn't find one) but i did find something like it. A yarn dispenser from yarn valet and it has worked very well for me. The next thing i am going to get is a yarn winder. My family is often impressed and proud of me. And when they asked were i learned how to do it i point to your's and other's videos, tutorials etc.

You have made it seem far more simple than many other online tutorials and I am already considering venturing into more complex patterns. I love the basic granny square but I am aiming to do some solid work and stripes eventually. THANK YOU So much Sarah Jane. You are a star. Golly goodness, thread tension changed my entire crochet career. Too many years of making friendship bracelets, I guess! Because I always assumed that pulling tight would give a cleaner result. Now that I’ve loosened up, I find myself stitching much faster. Also, my project has changed immensely, so I hope I’ll be able to correct any size differentiation when I do my blocking at the end.

Thank you for all your videos. You are a pleasure to watch and listen to. Even though I keep my hands clean, I think they sweat just a bit because my yarn won't pull through my fingers no matter how I wrap the yarn. I've tried many different wraps. I end up pinching the yarn with my little finger. I saw a video where a woman suggested wearing thin plain white gloves and this helped her with the sweaty finger problem. I've made some beautiful items so I know my tension is OK but I would like to be able to wrap the yarn as my fingers cramp. 💐🙋‍♀️
@bellacococrochet
@bellacococrochet 5 жыл бұрын
You're welcome 🙂 Have you tried crocheting with different types of yarn? Cotton yarn is very smooth and you may find it easier to pull through than an acrylic, for example. Is it possible that you're pulling the yarn a little too tightly if it's making your fingers cramp?

Thanks for the last tip especially! Everyone always talks about how to hold the yarn but but I really (after 9 years of practice) I needed the tip on how to loosen the stitch by pulling up. Also, knowing that it was expected to pull out more yarn and not have it flow from the ball was good to know. With a yarn cake in that yarn dish do you still need to stop and pull out more yarn? It appeared to flow out pretty freely.

I have quite the clutch grip on the yarn, but even tension. Gauge swatches, hook changes...I do what I need to get it proportionate. After that, it's about sizing. Always block! You'd be surprised how much that helps. Might look perfect, and then after calculating gauge POST blocking, you get a different result. Play with it, and do what doesn't make you too uncomfortable while doing it.

How I chuckled when I saw this post come up. I have watched it quite a few times before, but still struggle at times. Tonight I've been working on the wavy border, but found that if I put my hook into the correct stitch as shown, then it all looks very gappy, but if I put each stitch into every dc stitch, although it is a lovey shape , my work starts to buckle. At loss at to whether to 'frog' and find another border or carry on knowing 'frustratingly' that what I am doing is wrong. :(

Thank you those tips are very useful to me and im thinking now i should make yarn cakes to make crochet a lot easier. As i am 12, i have small hands so i put the yarn only just inbetween my pointer finger and middle finger. Then i tighten my fingers a tiny bit... Its just easier for me. I also make real cakes so im sure yarn cakes would be easier :)

Wow! You are stunning! It's so weird to see your face rather than just your hands (which are also lovely). I only started crocheting about a year ago but I've fallen in love with it. I've been in love with your channel and you are my favorite crochet creater. Your tutorials are so easy to follow along with & I want to thank you for such wonderful content. ♡ Love from across the pond, trisha
