I have only just found this channel and thanks to this brilliant video I managed to make my first granny square. I had been struggling to get them just right and was losing heart, but thanks to this tutorial I have succeeded. I lost my older sister to cancer two years ago. She was estranged for many years and although we connected briefly before her death I regretted things like not being able to learn crochet from her - she was really good at it. I have taught myself crochet via KZbin and have made some scarves. It has helped me feel my sister is still with me and has made me hope that in some way she will know about how I have progressed. Now here is the strange thing…yesterday I was losing heart, berating myself that I kept getting stray hairs in my yarn and thinking my technique was useless. Today I found this video and not only did I see the stray hair caught up in Mel’s yarn but also that I crochet in exactly the same way she does. I am saddened that this lovely lady is no longer with us, but her legacy is very great indeed. Thank you, love & light Mel x

This is by far the best tutorial I have seen on a solid granny square. You really take your time and explain everything as you go. Additionally, you kept it simple and didn't make any harder than it had to be. Much appreciated.

Hello Melanie, I have been crocheting for over 50 years and the design you use of working backward for the first part of the first corner is genius. It truly does make the work look good. Can't tell where the work begins. Thanks so much for sharing your designs and especially for your hard work.

Thank you! This is exactly what I needed. My favorite sister-in-law's mother, Granny, died a couple of years ago, leaving at least two unfinished granny square afghans. She didn't like to join small squares together so made her afghans as one huge square. My SIL asked if I'd be willing to finish them. One was almost finished and I was able to finish up the row she'd started and tie it off. The last one is about two feet square currently. I've waited until cooler weather (we live in The South™) to work on it and now this evening I find myself having to start a new row. I'm better at knitting than crochet, and if I ever knew, I've forgotten how to do that. Thank goodness for the Internet. This tutorial is exactly what I need to help out my beloved SIL and finish this afghan. Granny left nine skeins of yarn with which to finish the piece. I'll be working for a long time on this one!

Hi Melanie. I recently had to have a Total Knee Replacement, 2 weeks ago, and am feeling kind of stir-crazy and wanting to do something. I'm not able to get back to sewing or quilting yet, so I have been watching your crocheting KZbin videos. You are such a great teacher, and I think I could learn how to crochet by watching your KZbin videos! Anyway, I was wondering what would be the best beginner friendly project of yours for me to start with. I would have to get everything, from the hook, yarn, needle to weave the tails, etc. So, any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance. Teri
